News / Slavic linguistic union inside of EU; Polish language official [95]

Of course, the fact that many Czechs would rather cut their own throats than speak Polish means nothing, does it

Not true at all.
Many Czechs speak good Polish.
If necessary, due to their in-born pragmatism.

But I don't think it would be a good choice
Polish grammar is rather chaotic and pretty hard to learn.
I think some simplified version of the Slovak language could be a solution.

The idea to make Russian a Slavonic lingua franca sound bad to me even as a joke.
After we were forced to learn it !
And since when Russia is a part of the EU ?

History / Ranking of the most dangerous and successful enemies of Poland. [32]

Thank God you added the 'lol' or I would have thought tht you might be serious and died on a heart attack.

Well ... my girl friend told me I'm a very nice guy.
With exception for my sick feelings for these two bags of contaminated fat.

News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

What's the difference between oriented and friendly here?

Mentality and national objectives.
Business as well.

Western Ukies would like to be like us = second class Europeans lol.
They are as a matter of fact similar to Poles - same nonsensical pride close to madness.
Thanks God sometimes only !
Does not mean some special sympathy for Poles.

hey are comfortable with Russian language

Language does not really matter.
I know a girl living in Kiev from a strongly nationalistic family (Lviv born).
She prefere to speak Russian ("it's easier to me") but her feelings are ... oh well ... like those of Stephan Bandera lol.

News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

Donetsk, in the east of Ukraine, tends to be more Russia friendly. Lwów (Lvov) tends to be more Polish friendly.

Risky statement, Seanus.
English speaking Irish more England friendly than, let's say, Spaniards ?

I would rather say more Russia oriented (Donetsk) and more EU=Poland oriented (Lviv).

News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

How about Ukrainian, how different is it?

There are some small differences but it's no problem to Russian speaker to read Ukrainian.
And vice versa.
For example Ukrainian letters like: і Ї ї.
Compared to other Cyrillic alphabets, the modern Ukrainian has most in common with those of the other East Slavic languages, Belarussian and Russian.

History / Ranking of the most dangerous and successful enemies of Poland. [32]

Any examples for such a behavior from her?

Promoting the totally false picture of German society being one of victims in the ww2.
So called "expulsion" of Germans should prove that Germans were suffering from the same war time misery, equivalent to other nations' fate what is chauvinistic attempt of the history whitewashing .

But again - it's more my feeling so I don't need any kind of argumentation.

News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

Poland is most friendly neighbor of Ukraine (26%).
Number two ... Russian Federation (17%).

Results in Halychina (Western part of Ukraine) are higher than average for Poland and much lower for Russia.

The most friendly against Ukraine country is Poland - according to published the above Kiev studio sociological survey results " IFAK Ukraine " .
An opinion shared by 26 percent . respondents : 29 percent . in western Ukraine and 23 percent . to the east of the country .

As the second of the friendliest countries surveyed indicated Russia , but it was mentioned only 17 percent . respondents : 23 percent . to the east , and just 9 percent . in the western regions of Ukraine .

Steinbach is a German chauvinistic joke not a real danger.
Just a good partner for our Polish Godzilla, Mrs Arciszewska
Point.

If there is something dangerous in German politics today then I would rather name dancing to the music of Russian balalayka.

Donald Tusk could possibly cause some political damage to Poland but thanks God we have Kaczynskis twins.
Our pride and the last hope of the nation lol.
Our Wunderwaffe.

Sokrates, I have to disagree with you.

First, Khmelnisky generated a lot of troubles both to Poland and Ukraine .
You may call him a rebel but he managed to sell Ukraine to Russia.
1654 in so called Union of Pereyeslav he did it and I think it's ridiculous that some Ukrainians consider him to be a national freedom fighter.

More, he tried for the first time in history the partition of Rzeczpospolita in Radnot 1656, together with Sweden, Prussian elector, Rakostsi and Radziwils.
Is that not enough to call him a successful enemy of Poland ?

As for August II, his buddy/buddy relationship with Peter I caused more harm to Poland than both Suvorov, and Muraviev Vieshatel.

Bismarck ... I even don't try to compare him with Hitler however he wanted to
"ausradieren" us.
So simple ... to cancel all Poles.

Bandera gave the ideological background for ethnic cleanings in Volhynia.

Ranking of the most dangerous and successful enemies of Poland.

Don't try any moral qualification just take under consideration these 3 aspects:

- aggressive plans against Poland
- political and social consequences in the long run
- common opinion of Poles

Remember - if your say Hitler it means all his cronies as well. So no need to to put Himmler on your list !

My list:

1.Adolf Hitler/Joseph Stalin
2.King Gustav Adolf of Sweden
3.Ukrainian leader Bohdan Kmelnitsky
4.Czar Peter I of Russia
5.Polish king August II Elector of Saxony
6.Czarina Catherina II of Russia
7.Czar Nikolaus I of Russia
8.Chancellor of Germany Otto von Bismarck
9.Ukrainian nationalists' leader Stephan Bandera

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

I really do not see any future for Ukraine. This land is condemned.

Sounds to me like Molotov's "Poland, this monstrous bastard of the Treaty of Versailles".
Ukraine is facing some hard times in sense of economy and politics today but your conclusion goes too far.

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

I'd say that Poland gaining control over its former territories is quite likely.

What for ?
Put aside the politics and moral aspects - we cannot afford such a move.

Look at Germany.
Once European champion of life standard, after reunification a second rank economy in sense of per capita income.
The burden of the ruined GDR was higher than expected.

In case of Poland and Ukraine it would have some disastrous impact on our weak economy.
Not to mention a new national conflict.

First when mayor of Lviv is ready to welcome Polish troops with salo and horilka we can think of some closer cooperation with them.
I repeat ... cooperation. and it will take al ot of time.

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

Poles were not leading class, szliachta and magnaty did, and Ukrainians were among the elite.

Exactly my point.
I used wrong (simplified) qualification - Jarema Wisniowiecki was a first generation Catholic, means Ukrainian.
So as a logical consequence we shouldn't use all this patriotic terminology and get rid of national liberation myths - it was of purely social character.

No Polish occupation, no national uprisings.
Just Peasants' Wars like German "Bauernkrieg".

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

You, discussing here, under this ugly titled topic future of Ukraine, how you are so sure in future of all other countries

Nobody can be sure and for that reason we are discussing it.
It's a political board so let us have some political futurology as well.

Calm down, slo.
Political views of the huge majority of Poles are fully in line with so called Giedroyc doctrine which means support for independent Ukraine, Belorussia, Lithuania and their territorial integrity.

Some remarks in this thread are just emotional reaction for Nathan's statements.

Me too disagree with this ahistorical approach - West-Ukrainian cities, churches, castles, whatever built by Ukrainians, Armenians (lol), Austrians, Greeks, "Martians" only not by Poles who were the leading class there for more than 400 years.

Even under Austrian liberal rule it were Polish elites who decided all local issues.
No way around it.

I don't say it was justified, Ukrainians may call it Polish occupation but for God sake nobody should be free to deny the facts in accordance to his wishful thinking. !

To be honest, guys.
Some European cities have changed their "owners" .
I mean Breslau/Wroclaw. Stettin/Szczecin, Vilnius/Wilno and Lviv/Lwow make about the same category.

(But for sure not Kiev or Poznan.
Kiev was always center of the Ukrainian culture - same way like Poznan an old capital of Poland)

It's better for all of us to accept the changes lol.

History / Matters of Propaganda...Or: how was the West portrayed in Poland? [150]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_and_Independence

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Józef_Franczak

Poland did have by far more freedom as compared with the Baltics.
Both Poland and the Baltics used to fight commies in the late 50-ties, single partisans longer.
Not even to compare with a proven friend of Stalin and Chrushczev - German Democratic Republic.

Use Google to search for partisans, BB.
Last of them died fighting in the sixties
Zone was the best comrade and proven friend of the Great Soviet Union.
Not some troublemaker like the rest of the gang - Poles, Czechs, the Baltics etc.

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

Really, I see a perfect analogy between Lviv and German city of Breslau which used to be Polish before Adam and Eva and now is Polish again due to Stalin's decision.

But before ww2 it was one of the main German centers of science and industry exactly like Lwow was the Polish one.

BTW. Nathan, using your logic Warsaw is an old Russian city - the first railroad was constructed under Russian administration lol.

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

Nathan's position reminds me of an old history teacher of mine who was unable to accept any positive German influences in the Poland's past.

His family suffered a lot during the ww2 at hands of Nazis.

It's obvious to anybody with some common sense that modern European civilization "moved" from the ex-Roman Empire and its followers like Italy, Germany to the East.

The impact of the German colonization, German tradesmen, farmers, artist etc.etc.was enormous in medieval Poland.
Not the proto-nazi invention, so called "Kulturträger" but thousands of skilled carpenters, farmers, monks coming from Germany.

But not for him.

This poor guy deeply believed that all Germans have done in the East were mass killings and robbery - he was ready to acknowledge the fundamental Martians' contribution to the Polish culture but never the German one.

Same way Nathan is trying to convince us that Polish nobles spent over 400 years destroying Ukrainian cities and villages (their property BTW) and ruining local farming (their property as well).

Poles made 50% of Lviv population (census 1931) but of course it were Ukrainians (16%) who developed the city, its culture and science.

To make a long story short :
today its Ukrainian Lviv and let it be.
But to deny its Polish past the way Nathan is doing that means creating new myths.
This time not Polish or Russian myths.
Ukrainian pure.

History / RUSSIAN TV ACCUSES POLAND OF BEING HITLER ALLY [30]

Do you know how many Soviets actually died defending Warsaw?

Soviets defending Warsaw ?
Quite new to me.

Or ... do you mean Red Army capturing the empty ruins of it January 1945 ?
After Germans and "white" Russians destroyed the city and murdered about 1/5 of its population...
