Travel / Flights to Krakow from Leeds, Bradford, or Doncaster [17]

I hope to fly to Krakow from either Leeds/Bradford or Doncaster, 02/10/08 returning 20/10/08 (these dates are approx and can be slightly altered).
So far WIZZAIR offers the best value but I'm unsure of a few things.
1. How far is KATOWICE/CRAKOW airport away from KRAKOW and what options/costs are entailed in travelling between the two?
2. Baggage is charged per item. Is this usual or is the charge for extra luggage?

Any suggestions or advice are very welcome.

Travel / Beautiful film of Lublin [6]

there are English schools there

I have heard that the Polish Course at the catholic Uni in Lublin is as good as that ran at the jagiellonian but about half the price.

Anyone know much about the school and/or course?

UK, Ireland / 2 years in London, maybe it's time to go back to Poland? [60]

I feel like that after a weekend in London...and I'm English!
It's a bloody awful place.

Maybe you miss home?
Maybe you just need a change of scene?

Returning home after years away can be a massive anti-climax, so do not use selective memories of your home town/country to build a perfect place that never really existed.

Try to remember some of the things you hated about it.

Love / Attending a Polish wedding on my own (I'm English) [25]

POLISH WEDDING VODKA (twice normal strength)
BRIDESMAIDS (gaggin' for it!)

It's scientific fact!
96.3% of bridesmaids have unprotected sex with complete strangers on the night of being at the wedding.

Love / How Many Dates Before Sex in Poland? [86]

Is that the only qualification?
After reading a biography of Osama bin Laden I feel I know him 'kind of well'. The British Royal family are constantly being discussed by the UK media, so I feel I 'kind of know' them. I'v kept pedigree Bull Mastiff's my entire adult life so 'kind of' know them BUT SEX IS OUT OF THE QUESTION because:

1. My partner must be a human
2. Female (I'm a hetro male)
3. Young enough to be several years from a bus pass
4. Old enough to be several years from a bus pass
5. Attractive (imho)
6. Not the worlds most wanted terrorist, a member of any royal family (especially the Al Saud's) or a dog.

Language / How to say that you dont speak polish in polish? [23]

Nie rozumiem po polsku (I don't understand Polish)
Nie znam język polski (I do not know the polish language)

For easy phrases you should download PIMSEURS POLISH ONE.
My friend downloaded it for me (I'm not good with computer stuff).

I'm sure someone could tell you how to get it for free as a download.

Work / british working in Poland with no language [43]

know i can get a job because i know loads of Polish people here that dont speak any English and still get jobs, i dont know how they do it, but they do.

Dear me!
What a blatant attempt to provoke the racism of inequality in replies.

"If he can wear a turban on a motorbike why do I have to wear a helmet...... coming over here shaggin' our food and eating our women.........I couldn't get a job in Poland.....something about me being retarded but they get jobs in England........ real men beat their women with clubs.............."

Who do you think you are kidding?

UK, Ireland / Polish is suing because she cannot speak english!!! [45]

The Sun. They tend to show bias, occasionally.
The woman was scammed into working for £3 per hour. That should have been the headline. Not the fact she was Polish and spoke poor English.

It's just another anti-immigration story the media constantly uses to fuel hysteria.

Scotland's leading ethnic promotion and consulting company

Pat yourself on the back. Your helping those charity cases who cannot help themselves. The 'ethnics'.
Alternatively try to avoid distictions based on race. Now that is radical!

That link has gone straight into my favourites!
Much of it is beyond my level but I'm sure it will provide lots of info for me now and later.
Thanks Switezlanka.

Americans seen strangely uniform in these matters. 'Lose your virginity after the prom and behave like your in GREASE'.

Europeans don't have set rules. WE're more at one with nature and less cheeseburger obese.

Work / Moving to Poland in 3 weeks to study! [30]

Thank you =) I hope so too! Do you live in Poland?

No, Simmy. I'm English.
I'm trying to learn Polish and I'm planning on taking a two week intensive, residential course in Krakow in October.

I enjoyed my school years and neglected my studies......so now I do physical work that I hate!

Apply yourself. Learn medicine. Become a Doctor. Earn some money. SAVE SOME LIVES! Fantastic!!!

Work / Moving to Poland in 3 weeks to study! [30]

I'm jealous of you, Simmy.
Your life is about to become one huge adventure of new experiences and learning!

LEARN POLISH.
I'm sure you'll find a basic Polish course in Poznan.
If you spend 6 years in a place and do not learn the language then something is not correct.
Good luck.

UK, Ireland / Tell me whats the best way to integrate in england [26]

You will meet English who are racist, nasty and unpleasant but do not let these idiots stop you from keeping trying to get to know the natives.

Before you know it you will have friends.

Language / Polish Language Exams [4]

Jagiellonian Uni, Krakow, (in partnership with Lubjiana, Slovenia) have developed Polish language exams that are recognised throughout Europe.

Prolog list some details on their website (hurra.edu.pl).

It's part of a larger plan, a European Framework (the full title of which escapes me).
'SOCRATES' in another title relating to these initiatives and examinations.

Language / Help with Sentence Structure! [16]

I knew I'd asked about it before but couldn't find it!

I seem to forget 75% of what I learn and it only sticks after several attempts.

You ought to tell your teacher that. I had a year of 'lessons' like this and didn't learn sh1t. I wasted a lot of time and money. Friendly advice that's all.

I'm very happy with my teacher. She really pushes me.
For the first few months we've been concentrating on beginner theory/basic vocab but now she's making me converse with her and actually use what I have learned. The pronounciation can be problematic but I feel I'm making real progress.

Like karate Kid doing all that cleaning and waxing floors....then when he thinks he's learned nothing Mr Miaggi shows him just what he's learned

UK, Ireland / Nominations wanted for the Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards 2008 [40]

Personally I find your comments foul mouthed and ignorant.

I find your maison d'etre ridiculous and pointless.
It's your kind of left wing hug ins that are leading to a resurgence of right wing popularity.
People like myself, who work extremely hard to survive in the real world of competitive consumer capitalism hate your kind of 'do gooder' ********.

Go and collect dutch caps for the Hindu's. You prick!

long day in the office!

I dare say your salary comes from public funds.
I'm so happy that my taxes go towards something as useful as thinking up bogus awards for people who are considered unwelcome by the vast majority of the population. I'm speaking about non-EU citizens.

I have never worked with an African who was anything other than lazy. Really lazy!
And we only have to study how well the Asains have assimilated over the last 3 generations (suicide bombs and honour killing their daughters for smiling at a white man).

Take your government initiative, tax funded head fcuk award and cram it up your 'long day at the office' arse!
Patronising wnaker!

Language / Help with Sentence Structure! [16]

I'v found an answer to my original question in 'Polish Grammar in a Nutshell' by Oscar E Swan. It's all free over the net from the Uni of Pittsburgh.

Basically I want to learn when an adjective should follow the noun. It's usual for the noun to follow the adjective but there are exceptions

Zimna Woda (Adj-No)
Woda Mineralna (No-Adj)

When dealing with titles such as 'National Bank' the noun comes first.

I'm trying to learn Polish, dude.
I'm not sure whether your being sarcastic but mineral water is just bottled water.

Can't they make inclusion even more exclusive by having
"Young Scottish Ethnic Gay/Lesbien Developmentally Disabled Bald Three Nippled Stammerer of the Year"?

Level playing field...
If your white, English speaking and straight you not even allowed on the field!

Merged: When do adjectives preceed nouns....

My latest assignment is 2 lists of adjectives and 1 list of nouns.
I must 'connect the adjectives with nouns in a logical way - some should go before a noun, some after.

duże------zupa-------polski
zimna-----woda-------nowe
mineralna--kurs--------nowoczesny

Ezample- zimna woda mineralna.

So what governs the correct placement of adjectives?

WELL?

I have to learn the same things half a dozen times before they come close to sticking.
