Why it is a good idea to open one of these two (i'd rather say kebab coz Polish ppl have no clue about Malysian food and usually do not like to experiment):

-the economic boom
-still high unemployment rate (which means cheap labour)
-Polish people go to the restaurant rarely, but the rate grow very fast, therefore there are more and more restaurants needed
-Poland is beautiful and relatively cheap country :)

Anyway I lived so far in 3 places. Gdynia (Trojmiasto, Tri-City or whatever you call it), Detroit and Calgary.
Comparing safety in Gdynia and Detroit, Gdynia is waaay safer city. Therefore I would not say that Poland is not safe because of low salary.

And btw, an avarage salary in Poland is over 400 euros...

You must not be very familiar with tri-city than. I am sure there is at least one more, on Swietojanska street in Gdynia...

Food that is served in school is very cheap and not all that bad (I got information from 2001 when I last time ate in school). Back than the full dinner costed... 2,5 zl. (75 cents!) I am sure it's bit more expensive right now, still veeery cheap. The meal usually contains a soup, something to dring (usually kompot- home made juice) and a main meal- smtm placki ziemniachane (potato pancakes?), smtm racuchy (apple pancakes- I liked this one :)) sometimes some meat with a lot of potatos and a salad.

EDIT: I alomost forgot, my favorite main meal was pasta with fruits... Mniam :)

Ok, I do not like the first one... The second one is better in my opinion, however I am not a critic either.

I remember in high school we were asked to write fraszka and one other type of poem. So there were like a couple hundrets of students writing couse it was obligatory. And both of my poems were among best according to teachers verdict :). However I lost them both already, because I was too ashamed of my work.

You are so wrong fed up. You want to strart revolution without knowing that revolution has already occured. After isolation by communism 17 years is not enough to "import" all the cultural details, as standing and walking on a correnct side of escalator. How people who've never been to western countries for longer than 2 weeks should know that it is convienient if standers and walkers stand on opposit sides. And we do need revolution for those cultural changes... Just wait a couple years as some of the Polish ppl from UK and other countries come back.

And another aspect... Escalators are very new thing in Poland. I bet 15 years ago you would not find ANY escalator in Poland, maybe excluding Warsaw.

You need to plant 5 trees for every tree you remove... And somehow all the people that I know that buy field did that (ok, there were just 2 guys...) to avoid fine. But again, maybe because I am from city.

Somehow you are trying to prove that we do not care about forest in Poland :P. Ok than let me give you another argument. There are more and more national parks, and they expand their size :). Bears and Bizons are preserved in them... The forest that are choped off are those that were planted in the past. They do not chop off old natural forests... Or at least it's what I heard... All of info I give here are from radio audition, and newspaper article.

BTW, how come in Canada they have so much troubles with bears, and in Poland I have never heard about any problem with them. I know I know, we have waaaaaay less bears than in Canada, but remember that in Poland there are hardly any uninhabited places, and Canada has plenty of them...

Oh really? I've never saw anything like that, maybe because I am from big city (althought visiting countryside sometimes). And remember that the percenatage of forrest increases, and is above 25%..., so do not give impression that Polish do not care about forest, despite it might be true in your area obviously.

Oh, planty of snow... I aslo wonder how it is possible. I agree also that is safer with changing tires. I was sliding so many times that I waas surprised why the owner did not change tires (it wasn't my car I was just driving). When I asked him why he does not change tires he said: Change tires? Why? :)

Miranda: Gossip? National sport of which country? Poland? I disagree, look how much American gossip about other ppl and celebrities especially, Polish likes to gossip but not that much...

Heh, it's hard to think for me what is strange in Poland because I was raised there...

Maybe that:
1. Nobody cleans after dogs so imagine how lawns look like...
2. After plane lands people claps, at least they used to, this tradition seems to fade away... (it looked strange to even to me, are people happy that the plane did not cruch or what :))

3. Polish eat potatos with everything... Have a lot of names for potatos, depending on region... (ziemniaki, kartofle, pyry, bulwy, I am sure you have more those are the most popular)

4. In most schools if you have good marks you are "kujon" (what is English translation?) because of people jelousity... If you have bad marks you are cool... I could never understand that althought I am Polish.

Unfortunately I have not been to Polish Woodstock. It kind of far from my hometown, and the festival has a very bad press. It is said that everybody's drunk and high which is not true at all, so I never tried to persuade my parents, since I have not had money to go there anyway :).

Life / Music tastes in Poland [23]

There was one very good hip-hop band. I do not like that kind of mucis, but that band I could listen even though I am a rock fan. The band name is called Kaliber44. They had a couple good song, the best definitely "+ i -" about fear of death and AIDS.

There are many good bands that are worth listening, I listed them in other topic, let me list them again with a short desription.

Hey - Polish band with famous singer Kasia Nosowska, good rock, lately pop/rock
Pidzama Porno - Punk with clever lyrics, best song "Twoja generacja" about the generation of young Poles
Akurat - interesting punk band listened mostly by students
Republika - does not exist anymore, the singer is dead unfortunately (G.C. - RIP) good pop/rock with piano in a lot of songs.

Farben Lehre - good punk, also popular among students, however some songs sound quite similar, one of good songs - matura
T.Love - some good songs, pop/rock, leader - Muniek Staszczyk
Myslovitz - popular polish soft rock/britrock band, my fovorit songs: My (We)
Coma - one of the best Polish rock bands, with good long songs. I know only their first lp, but they relased new one lately. Their best song - Leszek Zukowski (I recommend, really good)

Happysad - good in live performances

That is all I can think of right now, there are plenty of more, Polish rock is really good, despite it is not popular abroad...
