Work / Staying in Poland after Work Permit Expires [7]

Thread attached on merging:
question

Hi All,

I have a question. My husband and I came to Poland about a year ago for work related reasons. My husband had a one year contract that will expire around May of this year. The temp resident card that we have been issued also expires in May.

However, the lease of the apartment we have is not up until August, so is it possible to stay for a month or so, even though the resident card has expired. Both me and my husband are US Citizens, and I know that one can stay in the Country for 3 months as tourists. Can we use that as means of staying further? Like if we leave and re-enter and get 3 mos to stay?

I would really appreciate any feedback relevant to this matter.
Thank you.

It's actually an Owl and gets very distressed if you approach it.
Please let me know ASAP if there are any place I could call to help with this.

Food / Bread - is the date on the packet the sell-by or the expiry date? [8]

Tost is what's written on top of the package made by Shulstad. They have different type pf varities like whole wheat, multigrains etc. The expiration date is always week from the time of purchase, so was wondering if that is the sell by date or the time when it expires.

Life / Unusual Sightings in Warsaw - millions of black crows... [22]

Okay, just wanted to share something which is silly yet bizzare. Still, it just amazes me, maybe, because I havent come across such a sight before.

Lately, I have been noticing here in Warsaw, at sunrise and sunset (on the dot!) hordes (millions/trillions) of black crows gathering on tree tops and filling up the sky so that it looks like a black sheath of paper. And the amount of noise is intensely high.Just wondering-

Is this a seasonal thing? And where do so many of them disappear between these times? What's the reason for this patterned behavior? How looney do I sound! :P

Life / Buying a Phone in Warsaw - where to get English manual? [11]

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question. I have been trying to buy a phone (with answering machine) in Warsaw, but was told by everyone (at Saturn etc) that the manuals all come in Polish. I was wondering how I could get a phone instrument for which the manual is in english, so that it easier for us to set up.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thank You!

Life / Well You visited and/or lived in Poland, tell us what its like. [41]

If by NYC you mean Manhattan+The Bronx then I'd have doubts about the friendliness. Wall Street, after all, is one of the least friendly places on this planet. Dog eat dog. The Bronx... it changed a bit, most of the unfriendly people have been pushed north, towards Yonkers and such. Still, The Bronx is not what comes to mind when one thinks about "friendly".

Z-Darius, I dont know if you're looking at the right places or times for "friendly" attitudes. You mention Wall street, which is mostly bustling with activity during the day when ppl are neck deep in work, so to expect them to stop and exchange pleasantaries would be highly unrealistic. I have spent 10 yrs in Manhattan (Upper west side, east village, west village, soho, and midtown) I speak of my daily interactions, collegues at work, my building staff, neighborhood vendors, ppl living in the community, generally being able to have causual open and friendly conversations with someone at the park, cafe or bookstore without feeling it an imposition.

Have I had my share of subway spats, ofcorse! One wouldnt be classified as a New Yorker if one didnt now :) but thats more the exception than the rule in my experiance..I do believe that New Yorks repuation of being rude, predisposes ppl to be on the lookout for such attitudes...btw how long have you lived there for?

[quote=Patrycja19]well, I dont get mean attitudes here in the united states,, living in New York, I
can say I know someone who came back from New york and she said it was
horrible.. New York is not the place to live or visit.. they have a very hard
core, fast environment.. the are a city within a city..

I think you got it wrong. I happen to LOVE NYC. Lived there 10 years. When i said coming from NY, i was telling ppl where I was before Warsaw, and that my friends were all teasing me and warning me of things to come when I moved to a place like Poland. If you see my previous posts, I have always maintained that ppl in NYC are super friendly and open, I made great friends that I will cherish forever. Its a melting pot of cultures and everyone feels welcomed because of it.

Life / Well You visited and/or lived in Poland, tell us what its like. [41]

Well I've had a very different experiance in Warsaw, so far. Coming from New York, people were shooting me sympathetic looks and giving their condolences when heaing I was moving to Poland. I came with zero expectations (in feb) and the number has only risen higher.

I LOVE the people here. They are friendly, helpful and ready with a smile! Yes, I know, i had also heard that people do not smile here often...NOT my experiance. Someone I barely knew for a week, was nice enough to give me a "surival guide to poland" to make it easy for me. People who could not speak a lick of english tried their hardest to get the meaning across(inlcuding making pictures on a piece of paper!) while in the process getting a good laugh out of it. In general they are kind and caring, and seem to have a good heart. They are sincere in their expression, as in whatever they feel you see, which is something lacking in the US.

Not knowing the language ofcorse makes things difficult, but I have always believed that a place is made by its people, and with a welcoming enviorment, much can be overcome with support.

I am sure there are negatives as well, where is it not? But for me right now, the positives far overcome the negatives.

Btw, Im South asian, incase anyone is thinking that I'm getting this treament due to having the blonde hair, blue eyes syndrome!
