Funny, but so true. My name is Melanie and I cannot tell you how many people call me Mel. I hate being called Mel and refuse to answer to it. When I was dating my Polish friend, I insisted my students pronounce his name correctly (I even taught them how to greet him properly in Polish). He loved it and they eventually started calling me Wacheekski a combination of his last name and mine.

Too bad the new last name outlasted the relationship, but it is true that the English speaking countries don't take time to respect and learn more about each other by appreciating a good name!

I hope it is not unusual as I have been "friends" with a Polish guy for three years. It has been a very strange relationship because if I mention "love" he says I had better look elsewhere as there is no such thing as love; however, anyone (including his family) all say I am his girlfriend and they can't wait until we get married, etc. I have tried to talk to him about his feeling, but have finally given up. I just enjoy the time we have together and don't worry about if it is for now or for always...

Turns out she is from Poland and she and fiance are in Georgia, but they don't really know any Polish people here either... Oh well... Atlanta is great! I have been here almost all of my life. I absolutely love Chicago, but hate the cold... In fact, it is my favorite city in the US. I usually go there a few times a year for business, but don't think I'll be there this year. Grzegorz lived there once and didn't like it. I just hate that their mom is so lonely!

Never heard of them David. I would check in to what organizations they belong to.

I am a student tour operator in the US and am hesitant about other companies on the web. There are several organizations that they should have some sort of affiliation with (thus protecting your money). I didn't look around on their website long, but I didn't notice a mailing address and both toll free and local phone numbers. Any company that doesn't have that information on their website is too scary to use in my opinion.

Wow! So many great ideas and many of them are right in my friends' backyard. I have moved to Daytona Beach and have forwarded your ideas to Greg and Gosia. I am enjoying working in a resort area and have met many Polish people. It is easy to recognize the accent and I greet them in Polish and BAM we have a conversation. My Polish skills aren't improving, but I am having a great time conversing with others and learning more about the country.

Mikey, I attend a mass at St. Marguerite Catholic Church. It was interesting as I was the only non-Polish person and the entire mass was in Polish. I had difficulty, but it was a wonderful experience!
