Life / Polish people vs English language [42]

I was wondering how many (maybe percentage?) Polish people can speak English? I live in the US and met some polish people here and they seem to speak English very well. Do they learn English in Poland (I know my father used to learn Russian only ..

Over the past couple of years there has been a large influx of Polish people here in my city of Liverpool. I can relate to what you say. There tends to be a lot of Polish Men who are bus drivers here. I got on a bus last week and asked the driver who was Polish if the bus went to a certain part of town. He couldnt answer me as his Englsih was not so good. I for one minute dont think that it was the drivers fault at all. Infact the man in question looked embarrassed and I felt his frustrations. The bus company shoud pay or any company for that matter should pay for English lessons for their staff which should be funded or at least subsidided by The Goverment.

Communication leads to Coperation.

Ps. Infact I thought the whole incident was rather amusing. :-)

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

What is English people attitude towards Poles, I was reading that some people are unhappy to see many Poles over there and are hostility towards them but on the other hand they are respected too. So whats the truth? So far I thought English people are very friendly but after reading their discussion on one forum I was quite shocked how anti-polish they were.

I think it's quite natural for some English people to feel anxious my friend. Since the 1950's this country has seen a large influx of foreigners land on it's shores. Since then some people see that the country has been in a decline and like to put the blame elsewhere and the first and most obvious external target are foreign people. Somepeople in my country are small minded biggoted fools in my opinion. They for instance in the 50's and 60's blamed the Asian influx of people but in the 70's the went to curry houses for food and now curry is my countries number one dish. Thinks take time my friend but don't let the small minority of people get to you or dishearten you on what this country has to offer. An example of this is.... Last week I was on a bus which drove past new buildings getting erected . An old man on the bus said to his wife those buildings are for Asylum Seekers. I cringed for this man because I knew that those new buildings are for students. This is just one example of misinforamtion being spread by a narrow mind. Like I said to you before do not be preturbed by people like this and enjoy my country and what she has to offer.

Oh I nearly forgot my friend. During The Battle of Briatin during World War 2 when Britain was a whisker away from crumbling a lot of the brave pilots who were fighting in English skies were Polish. If anybody gives you grief you can always remind them of that fact.

Especially the curry. :-)

Peace and Love.

There are a lot of Poles in Liverpool at the moment. I Don't now if its harder for us to understand them or them to understand us.

Anybody who has heard the Liverpool accent will know what I mean.

Life / Why are the Poles picked on there is no reason to do this to them [108]

why are people making fun of them picking on them and think bad stuff about them.

I have posted similar responses on threads here.Iam new to this forum but people may start to get the jist of what kind of person I am.

When people make fun of an external object whether it be a person or culture it's a sign of their own ignorance, insecurities and fear.

UK, Ireland / Anti-Polish sentiment of England [253]

For me they are race traitors, denigrating other caucasians, which disgusts me.

Iam not sure about anybody else but to me that sounds a bit .

Well ermmm. Racist. How can you possibly expect to be treated an equal if you deny others the same equality you desire?

Life is nothing but a magnet my friend and what you vibrate comes back to .

Good Luck.

ooops white immigration into the Uk. I could possibly understand fears about non-European immigration into the UK, citing cultural differences and lack of integration. But this is simply not the case. Many of these complainers actually don't want to be in the EU.

I think I may have mis interpretated this comment. If I did I must apologise.

The comment was in refenerence to English people denigratinging Poles

Unfortunately that will always be there. Some Asians still get it after 3 generations..

There is no place for muslims arabs in Europe.

What a silly thing to say.

No - fasting makes you hungary :)

no amount of meditation will make me believe that a paki is the same as me!

Wow. That's just the attitude the collective consciousness needs to heal our planet. with people like you on board how can we ever fail?

No - fasting makes you hungary :)

After your previous comment you make a half hearted attempt to be humorous. Listen Shelley you either a Dychotomist or a Gemini or possibly both.

:)

It does. I mean look at the Beats in The 50's they git real high of fasting. It could have possibly been something to do with the copious amounts of red wine and pot they ingested though.

Nah deffo the fasting. Where you from Sofi 'cos I sometimes type how I speak . A tad slangy if ya get me drift and was wondering if ya undertsand.
