Life / Most famous, respected Polish last names? [46]

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before.

But, I'm just curious of the culture and its people. Its kind of odd to ask this question,i don't know if its the same in Poland when you want to find out about the names.

I would like to know what are most respected Polish last name(s)?Like the name that is ancient and has been around a while or a name that was named after a king or queen.

And what are most popular/mostly used last name(s)?

I hope you understand the difference between the two.

Travel / Neighborhoods in Warsaw to visit [5]

Lets say someone wants to visit Warsaw, but he/she doesn't have a clue whats where and whats what.

What would you say is the most prestige spot or neighborhood in Warsaw.Where most of the people go.The ''center spot'' of town if you will. And what is it called and what is it like.Is it like a boulevard street with bars and cafes outside and no cars just people walking or.... is it like a big crowded mall with a lots of shopping stores and entertainment inside, (like in Times Square in NY).

No, i'm not moving to Poland.I'm just being curious.

Depending where you live in Poland.

Ok i see.

What about just people who come from Warsaw.what surname would be considered most respected? When i say respected, i mean like when people hear their name they go like ''oh...hes Szewczyk so he must be coming from good family''.(good family meaning not necessarily having $, but having great deal of respect, culture).

Another words, do surnames in Poland define or tell who the person is and from what kind of family he is coming from and exc...?Because where i come from it pretty much does.

News / Positive features that distinguish Poland from other countries? [63]

1. beautiful women
2. great tasting tomatos
3. good bread and buns
4. polskie piwo- polish beer
5. nice architecture in cities like Gdansk and Krakow

The only thing i might agree on is number 4, unless you were being humorous with the whole post.Every country has beautiful women,a lot of countries have good tomatos and bread and buns and also architecture isn't the best only in Poland I'm sure.

Love / Met a polish boy last summer [6]

I understand what is it like to be in a situation where you feeling left out when others talking because you don't understand what they saying,i've head same experience. The best you could do is even though you don't understand what they saying, try not to get caught sleeping while they are talking if you know what i mean.Try to stay active and awake and show that you are listening and stuff, smile here and there to her mom even though you don't understand what they are saying.Trust me, just a lil smile like that will mean big for his mother.

But like above girl said, at the end of the day the only thing is matters is you and him.So i wouldn't stress over this.

Love / Why some of the polish girls look so cold but they are not? [16]

My few thoughts on this...

I don't know if its so much of Polka girls being cold then it is the human nature of all females being like this.I think some females feel the need to look ''cold'' because they don't want men to think they are easy to talk to and stuff, so they leave cold or mean expression. But usually most of the women are pretty easy going once you talk to them. And i gotta say,i dislike when girls look cold or mean because some doesn't fit that look.I often look and say ''girl smile some...'' But there are just those females who are just straight angry looking, them, even a smile won't make them attractive, they are born to look angry for some reason.

UK, Ireland / Heading to London.Whats there to see? [45]

I'll be stopping by in London for 5 short days before i make my final destination to my home country.I have ticket booked for the 30th from here in NY so i should be in London the 1st of July.

So,my question is for those who live there or those who have been there and know around...whats there for me to see in 5 short days? Its short time but still, i don't just wanna sit in a hotel room or watch pigeons play.I wanna get out and see the city.

Also, I've been hearing things are really expensive there.Like just getting out and eat lunch and stuff.I was recommended to take food from here lol, how ghetto is that now.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome :)

Its better to have ideas from locals who live there and stuff,so maybe you can tell me yourself what are some nice sites to see there.

UK, Ireland / Heading to London.Whats there to see? [45]

What i'm interested doing during this five days?I'm looking to have fun and not be bored basically.I'd like to go to a club/pub defiantly, amusement park maybe. If british museum is really free than i might consider going there.

I hope to have a local park where i'd stay as i like to play football.

Speaking of football, i know its off season for EPL but, is there any exhibition games being played between june 1st and 5th?I'd love to see any game.Or at least see the Stamford Bridge stadium and new Arsenal Stadium.Hope to get a chance to just go in and take some pics.

I don't think I'll be buying anything in London lol. If simple meal is expensive, i could only imagine what something like football jersey would cost me.I think I'll pass. ;)

Hell no, its on the locks and its pretty cool you can pick up all sorts of stuff plus some nice cheap places to eat round camden, plus you couldnt go to London and not go to Camden market

So its like bazaar. You get second hand stuff and stuff?lol I'll check it out if i find the place.

Na don't get me wrong. It just that first thing i was told about London is that its very expensive eating there. And than you mentioned that place and i immediately assumed that place was like where kings and queen shop at lol. So i was like na i think i'll pass.

Well, here in NYC you could eat pretty decent launch for 10 bucks and that does not include Mcdonalds and BK's lol.I think NYC is pretty expensive city as well just like London but despite that you could still eat nice meal for decent price here. You have Indians/Pakis all over the city making beef and chicken gyros on pita less than 10 bucks and its really good.

I actually don't think will buy any football jerseys anymore.I'm more interested in going to see Stamford Bridge or new Arsenal Stadium and take some pics.Actually i found on this site 75 min stadium tour for only 10euros (surprisingly lol) stadiumguide.com/stamfordbridge.htm and i think i'll give them a call when i get there and see the stadium.

lol what the ***** was just now eating my dude.

Looks like you are very concerned about that.lol i almost fell of my chair at first.

I have a New York State driver license, will i be able to drive with this in London if i was to rent a car?

UK, Ireland / Heading to London.Whats there to see? [45]

Yes. but to be honest I wouldn't bother driving in London. Public transport is still pretty good and the roads in London are very busy. Not to mention that parking costs are very high too. If you plan to stay only in London, don't bother with a car.

Yea, i probably won't rent a car.I was just curious.

How does the transportation work? Here in NY, we buy metro cards that can be used for trains and buses. There are weekly unlimited ones, monthly unlimited ones and one day.

You could try the late night Jack the Ripper tour. You'll find more about it on-line.

What is that?

jack-the-ripper-walk.co.uk

I've never done it, but you might find it interesting.

It's about murder most foul.

Thanks,I'll see what i can do with that.

Very similar in London.

Well, i have reserved fake hotel in London which is located in 80/81 Clapham Common South Side.I don't know how central this location is but i'm guessing its not really in central location. So during my five days, since i won't be staying close to where entertainment and stuff is, i'm gonna have to need a transportation card.I'm going to buy me a five day unlimited buses/trains transportation card. But is there difference between buses or trains?like when i buy that transportation card, will i be able to use it in any bus or train?

The reason i said i reserved fake hotel is because i need a visa first.I'm gonna send this hotel's address to British embassy here in NY and when they see i have reserved a hotel in London which they will most likely make them believe that i am visiting London and i'm not ******* around, that way than they'll give me visa. But once i get in London, i might not even go to that hotel lol, if i find cheaper stay i'll go elsewhere.

watch out for thieiving pick pockets in busy times :( also you might want to try the london tourist bus (open top red double decker)

people watching is and also very entertaining London :)

Imperial War museum

Tate Modern

Have a walk across london bridge and a walk around the locks some cheap pubs around there and nice to sit out if the weather is nice - if you dont want to eat in a bar then buy a sandwich and just sit somewhere nice...

Go and look at the changing of guard at the palace (never done it you could tell me all about it on your return)

These are all free things, round Covernt Garden there is always street entertainment which is free (if you look the other way when they come for payment)

Thieving pick pocket.... is it really big of a deal with that there?Cause believe it or not i actually have never seen them here before, well maybe once or twice.

London tourist bus....are you kidding? We have similar thing here and only people i see hop on on that thing is elderly people, three times my age people.lol

When you say walk around the locks.... what do you mean?Locks are middle class neighborhoods?

Changing of guard....as an substitution not as guards changing clothes lol.One guard stand all night at the palace and then other guy comes in to replace him.So whats the thrill about that? The first guy must be passing something really special and in very unique way to the second guy.

Covernt Garden...This sounds good...where is this located?I mean i should have asked for addresses everything yall recommended because i'm coming as newbie in city so am i suppose to find Camden Markets,Locks and Palaces and Covernt Gardens... :(

Well the UK is now like 'Little India and Little Africa " but besides that you see many nice girls to shag , most of them wont be british though ..

Nice girls to shag? You mean like girls that are hairy?

Yea good site it seems,I'll have a look once i get a chance.

I have a question for British people.I always wanted to know this, when someone like me from states comes to London and speaks broken English and slang, what is British peoples reaction usually?Do you find difficult to understand their broken English because you're use to straight British accent English?Or do you kinda chuckle and stuff when they speak?I'm just curious what British reaction is and what do they think of people who speak broken English.

Because when i hear someone speak English with British accent here, i find it kinda funny in a good way.Cause i'm so use to hearing broken English everyday and when i first hear British accent i'm like, i become interested to hear what they have to say and i find it kinda cute.Though i must say it takes longer to register in my head what they saying lol.

USA, Canada / Gas prices in America [127]

Here in NY, average gas price is about 3.30 i would say for the regular of course.

My ride is 8 cylinder so you already know i'm suffering big time. But i got a dealer who gets me discount fortunately,he lets me fill up for 75% of the price. He should really be filling up for half the price, but its his and its his choice so he only fills up for me for 75% which is way better then what everybody else pays.

I still need to buy a digital camera before i go so i can take good pics in London.I have camcorder and will be using it too but i like to take pictures.

^^ Huge difference between me and you.

Its relatively low as well in New Jersey, something like 2.70 or so which makes you wonder for someone like me who lives in NY, is it worth going in jersey to fill up the tank because its so much cheaper? But then by the time you come back 1/4 would be wasted. So at the end, it does not really worth doing that, unless you happen to be heading towards NJ, than yes it is worth filling up for much cheaper price.

UK, Ireland / Heading to London.Whats there to see? [45]

Well....My plans changed.I had planned originally to leave on the 30th and stay in London for five days but that didn't happen as British Counselor refused my entrance to London.I applied for visa online and everything, i went to office and brought all the required paper work. But they denied me.Apparently they were afraid that i might have stayed in London forever and would not come back lol.I told them that i had a Permanent Residence status and soon to be a citizen of US, no way that i'm staying in London more than what i'm asking (5 days). But they still said no to me.How crazy is that? Why would i even jeopardize my status when i'm planning to become a citizen of US.

So, anyway....they refused me.Then i went and changed my plane ticket to July 5th.Because without visa in hand, had i arrived in London on the 1st,then i would have had to wait in airport for five days.So i changed my ticket and moved it to 5th and so i'm hoping to leave this Thursday.

On top of that, there is these terrorist threats going on in London as yall know.It frightens me to be going.Who knows god forbid my plane gets hijacked or something. But i have no choice, i gotta go, i already lost a lot of time in visas and other paper work and i don't wanna miss this trip,i've already payed for tickets as well.

Anyway....my plans to visit London and see the city is gone now.And that was the reason why i made this thread to get advice and all that. But thats all irrelevant now.Thank yall anyway for giving me some tips and stuff.Next time i decide to go to London which i'm sure will happen after i become a citizen and have no problem and wouldn't even need a visa, i'm sure i'll consider all the tips yall gave me.Thanks yall, i just hope i get home safe.
