Love / Whose Life is it? Polish girlfriend under family "house arrest" [224]

Im Irish and recently over the last 3 months began seeing a polish girl I had known and worked with for 2 years. We always had a bit of a spark but she had a polish boyfriend and I knew not to get involved and stayed clear. Last year they were having problems ( he drinks alot, no job) and split but he was reluctant about this but went home hoping she would change her mind. During this period we began to see each other and really hit it off. We enjoyed spending time together and talked about future. Her ex found out back in Poland and began causing us problems and with her family in Poland. She felt she needed to go home and explain to her family and hope thry would respect her decision. As soon as she arrived in Poland, her ex boyfriend confiscated her ID and took her to her family home. They are taking his side. She is now under house arrest and has been told she will never return to Ireland. How can this happen in this day and age....Whos Life is it and how can others make this choice. She had a job she loved and a future she dreamed about. All she wanted was to be happy !! She was due to fly back to Ireland on Saturday. Now I dont know if I will ever se here again.

That may be so bt it does not explain constant texs from her ex. She also still has all her gear and money here in Ireland......and to top if off I got a phone call from her today. I dont think its a yarn or scam lads....sorry

He constantly knew her moves. He was texting a friend who lives in same area. Everytime she left the house he would text or ring. The he started ringing and texting me. We both denied everthing. When she arrived in Warsaw she rang me to say she arrived safely. That was last Wednesday. Her ex rang me later saying he seen the texts on her phone and after that I knew he had it as he had taken phone from her before.

Her family were putting her under pressure because there was a half built house involved. She wanted to go home to make things right. She has a sister getting married in September and wanted things back home to be settled. She was planning to go to a wedding here in Ireland next month. When I left her to the airport that morning I could see the worry in her eyes.

Came on her hoping for a bit of advice...... I did read the thread from TED yesterday......thats why I posted the thread today after getting the phone call

Thanks for the comment Polskadoll. Both myself and her Manager have hadone phone call each. When she called her Manager it was from the ex boyfriends number who had text her Manager saying she wanted to speak with her. They are both females and verygood friends and she often sought comfort in her. During the call her ex boyfriend was standing over but left the room for a short while during which time she said she had made a big mistake going home. She was due to go to her Managers daughters wedding next Month and planned to get new dress and shoes while she was home.

When she rang me yesterday it was from a phone her ex had given her to contact him once she was finished at hairdressers. Again she was getting colour done by a friend who is a hairdresser for wedding in couple of weeks in Ireland. She told me she needed to let things settle down and for people to stop watching her before she could make contact again but again said she made big mistake going home. She told me she missed me and loved me nd to try and stay calm.

Thats were im at now.........She doesnt have email. I guess I have to sit and see what happens. She has 2 brothers here in Ireland, one of whom I have contacted but all I get from him is that it is not his business.

a couple of things still stick in my head......Why book the return flight for Saturday 28th if she was not gonna return. Why take just the minimum baggage she needed for the week? She has a house here that she shared and alot of items she bought for it....fridge, bed,TV etc. A Credit Union Account !!!.....sorry but it doesnt add up to some of the comments I've been receiving on the thread. Sokrates...comments like that are childish !!!!

Harry alot of what you said is true. She comes from a small village.She was with her ex for nearly 7 years. He cannot accept what happened and told her she would never be free or in her words 'have peace'. She was under alot of pressure from her family particularly because they had been building a house together and she had invested alot of money but she was no longer interested in it......she wanted happiness !!! The night before she left we talked and she siad if her family did not respect her wish then they would have to accept she would never go back home again.

Once again thanks for all your comments. I just want to understand what is going on and how something like this can happen. Maybe I am niave as some of you have suggested. Time will be the teller of that, but until then I refuse to give up hope.

I do not assume she is physically being held, but choices are being made for her. And yes this ex has a violent streak. For the record I did not start this thread to discuss the culture of male poles and am not suggesting that all are same...I am merely trying to come to terms with what possibly has happened.

No never, she is very mature and had goals in her life. She was always looking to learn new things partic.ularly good english grammar. She had a bad relationship growing up with her father but talked alot about her mother. Her family was getting oe side of the story from her ex and she wanted to go home to set the record straight and for them to respect her wishes.

I aint making this up........nor am I the only one who has concerns about her. If she is in the process of making it up with her ex then I will respect that, though I doubt it very much. When all is said and done there will always be a part of me in Poland as long as she is there..........my heart !

I know the ball is in her court......all I can do is see if absence makes the heart grow fonder. Thanks all for your comments....some of which I will admitt are not what I want to here but I appreciate all points of view. Well just to update you all on the craic. I was a naughty boy yesterday morning. I text her EX to tell him I was on my way tp Poland and I would see him later......then I turned off my phone for what would have been the duration of the flight. Had 2 voice mails when I turned phone on telling me he was at Warsaw airport waiting for me. I never answered and turned phone off again. Turned it on last night and I think he thinks im in Poland by the texts I was getting. I tried girlfriends phone this morning (with number withheld) and it was ringing but I immediately hung up, so I got her Manager to ring it straight after. The EX answered it and refused to let her speak to her. She siad it was important but still he would not let her speak saying she only speak Polish now. He obviously has her phone checking to see if Im trying to make contact.....anyway thanks all the news I have to date.....sorry for being naughty :-)

I told ye before....this lad is a dinosaur. Part of me wants to forget but a bigger part wants me to keep going. The bit of the puzzle that I dont know fits is if she is feeling as I am......if I knew that either way at least I would have closure.

We were building, and planning for the future. I remember cooking her Sunday Dinner one day. She couldny get over that I would do such a think. She came an hour earlier thinking she would make it....and washing up....jasus that was another story !! . I have a son and she adored him and he still asks for her. I was always careful in the past to avoid people getting close to him that would confuse him.....well I fecked up on that one !!

Thought Id add a comment on this post......Im a Senior Manager at a company in Ireland. All the SMT have been asked to take a 20% pay cut at end of this week for next 5 months.......no one is ammune to the big 'R'.......only this time there aint no coffin ships heading for the shores of America !!

Lads and Lassies.......Im not going to Poland. I may sound niaive in my ramblings on this thread but im not. I know what would lie ahead. Remember....I know this Ex. He worked for me. She knows where I am IF (small word with alot of meaning) she wants me....IF not then more the fool me for worrying over nothing.

Maybe Ireland32 you may not be one of these superior beings as I do not know you and can only speak as I have found through experience.

I may be a Senior Manager but believe me 20% is alot. I am also losing 3 of my staff so yes that means more work for me and as a Senior Manager I do not get overtime. I already work 55 hours a week. Im not looking for sympathy but I do have sympathy for those people on the factory floor. They have families and homes.....I know that. I am divorced. I have children who I love and adore. I rent a 2 bedroom apartment. I gave up my family home to my kids. Times are hard. No one is immune but you can rest asssure that the governments who helped the banks will not come to help me or you when the balliffs come knocking on our doors.

Hi all....just ti update you all on the situation. After taking alot of your advice I had said to myself to forget the wholw thing......I got a call from her todat at 2pm. She told me she miseed me and my son and never stopped thinking about us. She said she missed her life in Ireland. She said she hoped some day soon she would come back........ IF YOUR CONFUSED BOUT THIS THEM HOW YOU THINK IM FEELING RIGHT NOW !!

For those of you who want an update.....I got 3 calls from her last week. She is very unhappy but still wishes to come back to Ireland. She is under alot of pressure from her family. I also got 22 calls from her ex on friday night, none of which I answered. also got 2 threatening texts........
