Life / Polish Protestants [22]

A very interesting articleCampaign against Prussian Poland

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulturkampf

Germanisation policies in the Province of Posen mostly failed. Although most of the administrative measures aimed against the Poles remained in force until 1918, between 1912 and 1914 only four Polish-owned estates were expropriated, while at the same time Polish social organizations successfully competed with German trade organizations and even started to buy land from the Germans. The long-lasting effect of the Polish-German conflict in the area was development of a sense of Greater Polish identity, distinct from the identity common in other parts of Poland and primarily associated with nationalist ideas rather than socialism, prevailing in other parts of the country in 20th century.

"It seems indeed that the nobility who encouraged the Jews to settle were protestant when they did so. (Jews had been there for centuries)"

False. It was King Kazimierz long before protestants.

By the way it is strange to talk about protestants and catholics with people from country durring religous war. Look on Northern Irleand.

History / Drang nach Osten. [79]

Germans never dominated Poznań. They have lost in trade war. They were bought out or polonisated. Bamber ( polonisated german settler) means savage in our dialect.

Now when we are part of EU we can make economical expansion in eastern Germany.

One Polish town against economic power of whole German empire and Polish Poznań bought them out.

In 1918 Poles made uprise and joined Poland.

If you are in Poznań you should see

Towns Hall

The attic shows a list of rulers of the Jagiełło Dynasty from Władysław II Jagiełło and Jadwiga of Poland to Sigismund II Augustus. In the middle of the parapet there is a small tower with a clock and a mechanism that controls two goats. The current mechanism behind the goats dates from the end of the 20th century. The goats bump heads daily at 12:00 noon.

Below that is the monogram of Stanisław August Poniatowski. A model of an eagle, which survived World War II in hiding, returned to the tower in 1947

Cathedral

cathedral

Mieszko I, the first known duke of the Polans, built one of his castles in Poznań. The Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul is the oldest Polish cathedral, founded in Poznań during the latter half of the 10th century. The city would become the capital of Greater Poland. Mieszko I's son, Boleslaus the Brave, was crowned king in 1025 and the Kingdom of Poland was formed. Greater Poland became the 'cradle of the Polish state'

Poznań's cathedral is the oldest in the country, containing the tombs of the first Polish rulers: Duke Mieszko I, King Boleslaus the Brave, King Mieszko II, Duke Casimir I the Restorer, Duke Przemysł I, and King Przemysł II.

Poznań

The name Poznań probably comes from a personal name Poznan (from the Polish participle poznan(y)) and would mean "Poznan's town." It is also possible the name comes directly from the verb poznać which means "to get to know" or "to recognize".

"Teatr Polski" (Polish theatre) Poznań has been build in 19 century. It is interesting part of Kulturkampf between the Germans and the Poles. You know "who is better" Polonisation or Germanisation ?

Finaly Poznań won this war and this is one of the symbols of this war.

Like some Polish banks or like Polish Hotel Bazar Poznań.

19th century in Poznań has been very intereting.

Poznań was like Belfast on the one side the Poles and some old German immigrants. On the other New Germans brought by Prussian authorities and the Jews changing side all the time.

Also Germans living IN Poland REFUSED to assimilate into Poland

Nothing is balck and white. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bambrzy

Fountain of Bamberka in a married woman's dress on Old Market in Poznań

Bambrzy (Poznańskie Bambry, German: Posener Bamberger) are the Poles of German origin, the descendants of Germans who moved from the area of Bamberg (Upper Franconia, Germany) to villages surrounding Poznań, Poland.

The Polonisation of this group was a voluntary act and happened very quickly. The settlers refused to build their own churches, prayed with Poles, and their children learned the Polish language. There were also many mixed marriages with Poles living there. At the end of the 19th century, during the Kulturkampf period, all Catholics in villages inhabited by Bambrzy chose Polish nationality during Prussian and German censuses.

Many of them were soldiers of the Polish army fighting in Great Poland Uprising. During the German occupation of Poland most of them, just as most Poles, were persecuted for their Polishness.

The advent of democracy in Poland in 1989 saw the beginning of a renaissance of the Bamber culture. The best-known aspect of this culture are the rich female dresses.

Some Germans were assimilated some weren't. Some Jews were assimilated some weren't. In different regions we had different proportions. Generaly Germans settled by force in 19 century weren't assimilated and they were loyal to their country. Half of Poland was part of Germany ... Those settled before partions were mostly polonisated.

I don't care about Polish americans. If we talk about anti-Polish campaing. Polish Americans made anti Poznań campaing in their press (long time ago) and in Poznań "you" are not popular.

In Yalta we were sold it is fact.

If we were such great allies so it is time for British to give back our national gold reserves confiscated (stolen) after the war. We are not under communist rule and now it is time to send our gold back to Poland.

Gentelmens do so.

1) Poles go to Cassino.

2) Referes to Sikorski death (Next Katyń vicitme) (and his British murders)

In all posters there was some truth. Katyń was Soviet job. Sikorski has been murdered or by Soviets or by British ...

Only part of our national gold reserves came back to Poland after the war.

History / Poland war propaganda poster - can anyone explain this picture? [292]

mhm, but what exacly are you talking about ?

"Gigant and filthy dwarf"

Communist Poster about "AK" - Home Army, in 1944 soldiers of home army were persecuted by Soviets.

All those who were able to fight for freedom were dangerous for system. People who fought gINAT Nazis were first to kill by Soviets because they were considered able to fight agains totalitarian systems.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Army

The Armia Krajowa (the Home Army, literally translated as the Country's Army), abbreviated "AK", was the dominant Polish resistance movement in World War II German-occupied Poland. It was formed in February 1942 from the Związek Walki Zbrojnej (Union for Armed Struggle) and over the next two years absorbed most other Polish underground forces. It was loyal to the Polish government in exile and constituted the armed wing of what became known as the "Polish Underground State". Estimates of its membership in 1944 range from 200,000 to 600,000, with the most common number being 400,000; that figure would make it not only the largest Polish underground resistance movement but among the two largest in Europe during World War II.
