Life / How well is English spoken in Poland? [27]

Maybe a stupid question...but for instance the French know the English language quite well but generaly don't like to speak it especialy to an English person!

I was wondering what it's like in Poland?

Apologies if this topic is a dupe.

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

I recently sought advice about my polish "friend" (were not together apparently! though it doesn’t seem that way to me!) from her own cousin because she has crazy things going on sometimes.

Let me elaborate...

So I really love her and she knows it and I know that she loves me too however sometimes when were apart and texting each other she just gets mad at somebody/something and decides I'm the one to take it out on like the other day I really wanted her to come to Blackpool with me and her friends but she wouldn’t instead she decided to go shopping in a different city on her own and then I text her that I wish she was with me/us she said that no she didn't want to be there with me cos she doesn't even like me or care about me and I just pi*s her off, the same evening I/we came back and everyone went to a birthday party, I arrived before her and she arrived with a few friends everyone came in and said hello to me except her who just completely ignored me so I ignored her back then 1 hour later whilst she was chatting with a friend she just stopped talking to them mid conversation turned to me and said "Why are you sitting there? “You should be sitting next to me" as you can imagine I was like WTF! Anyways to cut a long story short now were back to normal like nothing ever happened and this is not the first time she has behaved like that.

Her cousin told me just to leave her alone when she's like that she said there’s no point in getting mad it's like being angry with the rain there is no point! Just wait until it stops then everything will be fine again.

So there’s my experience with my polish girl they can be crazy but she is beautiful, funny and I love her so what can I do!

I think you just need to ask yourself the golden question.....

Are you happy?

If you are not and the main reason is because of her then just end it, it will be the best thing for both of you.

On the other hand if you are happy or maybe you are sad and she makes you happy then keep her and learn to deal with her behavior.

All the best!

Thats a very short answer compared to your usual responses especialy given the questions I put forward...you sound down...

Nobody on here and I mean nobody (even me) has the right advice that you should take you just need to read what we are saying and then use it to come to a conclusion on your own, nobody knows her and nobody knows youand it's easy to give advice but not so easy to recieve it.

Good luck pal! I promise you this in 5 years you will look back at this and think... What the hell was I doing to myself!

Love / A love story about a young pretty Polish girl who traveled to the UK... [15]

Once a pretty young Polish girl traveled to the Uk on her holidays for the summer of 2007 she worked at a training centre and met an English guy who didn't really like her too much as she seemed an irrational fool they had a brief friendship and exchanged facebook details and after she left she sent him a message... They chatted more and more as days went by and eventualy found they had the wrong impression of each other and that they actualy liked each other very much, after 6 months of constant chatting the guy woke up one day and realised he was in love with her, he longed to tell her but was worried about how she would react and how it would affect their friendship but then one day in the middle of the night after thinking very hard about what he should do he wrote her a facebook message telling her how he felt, the reaction was not good she told him she did no feel the same way, he was crushed, they carried on their friendship and nothing changed too much but eventualy she started to come around to thinking that she may love him too as you can imagine he became happier and happier with every day this happened. She told him she was coming back to the Uk to live for 2 months and live only a short walk away, when she arrived they found it strange at first but soon the guy realised that she just might be "the one" he played his cards close to his chest and waited...they kissed and so it began....

More on the story another time

Smiffer,

Mate you just need to sort it out because posting on here and having 15+ people all chime in with an opinion really wont help you, it will just confuse you more...

I suggest you just have it out with her and then you will both know where you stand then you can both move on in the right direction.

Seriously I dont think your going to get the advice your looking for on here.

Language / Classes, books, audio books, CDs? - best way to start to learn Polish! [23]

So I'm downloading Rossetta Stone, Pimsleur and I paid for Learn Polish Now! from digital river because I got a recomendation from a friend.

I also downloaded The PWN Oxford Concise English - Polish, Polish - English Dictionary although I would like a print copy but I want to check it before I buy as with Rossetta Stone and Pimsleur.

Anyways it's a start!

Language / I need a good dictionary! (book) [21]

You need a basic textbook and a good dictionary. And a good one has:
-examples of usage of the word
-collocations
-popular fixed phrases connected with the word and basic idioms

Switezianka, Thanks for the advice it sounds like you know what you are doing! Would there be a textbook that you would recommend?

I found this one on amazon
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/8324206337/sr=8-1/qid=1219440232/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1219440232&sr=8-1&seller=
and also this
amazon.co.uk/Beginning-Polish-v-1-Linguistic/dp/0300016530/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219440896&sr=1-9
what do you think?

Thanks in advance.

recommend you getting a teacher

I'm going travelling soon for around 1 year so finding a teacher will be hard work.

I may step in and take a look at Polish-for-foreigners books.

If you could I would be indebted to you.

:)
