CLOSING THE TRANSLATION THREADS

miranda

since we are having a lot of arguments in translation threads, why not close them once the translation is done????

Just a suggestion.

What if a less than qualified translator gets there first?

I guess that's the risk that you run when you use a forum... OPs probably act on the first response that they get anyway.

most of the people on PF are quite good, so since it is a free service, the quality is to be questioned in the first place:).

I personally make mistakes because I don;t have enough time to check them, so I stopped doing it all together.

I am tired of people arguing over the translations. That is all. It ends up being an ego trip for some.

Quick answer is to ban Michal from contributing to the translation threads and hey, guess what ? No more arguing.

i say we ban honestjohn as that's a personal uncalled for attack and has nothing to do with this thread.

closing translation threads seems like a bad idea to me.

Everybody on this forum is unqualified. Who or what is a qualified translator?

Who or what is a qualified translator?

There are some posters who have a reputation for accuracy. There are some who intentionally provide intentionally innacurate translations (often times, they are vulgar!)

intentionally? hmm really haven't seen too many of those and the only ones i have seen were a total joke as the person asking for translation was asking some wierd thing to be translated.

intentionally?

total joke for those who make them, but for the poor chap who asks the question and doesn't understand a single word of Polish they may seem as serious as anything.

Everybody on this forum is unqualified. Who or what is a qualified translator?

I SO DON'T wanna start arguing with Michal again, but haven't you ever heard of the sworn translators?

a personal uncalled for attack and has nothing to do with this thread.

It wasn't a personal attack, it was a FACT based on factual information gleaned from all the translation threads on this forum.

There is a big difference between personal attacks and a factual statement !

that is not a fact, it is an opinion. look up the definitions of these words please.

hat is not a fact, it is an opinion

It's fact ! Have you read every single translation thread on this foru, posted in the last 12 months or so ? Well, I have and certainly, in more than a few of them Michal has in fact argued on them. So that is actually factual!

look up the definitions of these words please.

I don't need too. I know my definitions but do you ?

If I had assumed that Michal had argued on the threads then that of course would not be factual but I did not assume I based it on evidence which is available for all to read and absorb and make comment as well.

Have a nice day!

Yes, but no.

Admin should name the translators he trusts and give those members a tag.

All he has to do is write 'Translator' under the date, on the right-hand side.

Then the OP shouldn't have any complaint and the forum keeps its reputation.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it would be like opening a Pandora box. What's next - a little tag for "religion", "sport", "Polish-German relations", "Polish-Russian" relations, "relationship", "human rights" etc. expert? - it would be a full-time job for a few people to administrate it and then try to be objective. Not to mention numerous threads that member X shouldn't be "expert" and member Y should be, etc.

Admin, you are finding problems where there aren't any. All you have to do is help posters understand who to trust. None of those 'translators' would have moderator function.

yeah, look at all the posts and stars that michals got, and all the time he's been on the forum, yet still he cant be trusted with anything he says. im with honestinjun, banning michal would be the easiest and quickest option, then even the "translator" tags wouldnt be necessary, as the great majority of people who translate here know what its all about. its just michal who digs up old threads and adds his bs to them.

i agree....it will never work and it's better not to even start it...look what's happened when Admin changed the layout.... masakra...

banning michal would be the easiest and quickest option

if so, everybody who behaves like an a$$ here should be banned also...and not every a$$ is banned

Can I be a 'trusted translator'? I know a few odd phrases, very short sentences and a reasonable number of swear words.

I see Shawn's point. There was sb who was the first translater of a soup who, for a laugh, translated it as vagina soup. In Polish of course so the questioner had no idea
