UK, Ireland / FIVE DIE AS POLE DRIVES WRONG WAY ON UK MOTORWAY [78]

Without fuller knowledge of what actually happened, we should understand that it is complicated. Even though it really shouldn't have happened, stress can take over. I remember when I was young, my mum went down a one-way road the wrong way. She decided to continue on. We met a couple of cars along the way but managed to avoid a crash. It was a quiet road and not a motorway.

Language / Overuse of the words 'po prostu', esp among females [41]

I remember watching one interview with Ewa Drzyzga and another woman. Well, I was passively listening really. The woman couldn't stop saying 'po prostu' and it really grew irritating. It was uncanny just how often she said it. I often hear it in interviews and it really cuts through me. The mute button is never too far away :)

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

The thing is, it wasn't "back home" so he had to adapt to the new conditions. Pull right off the road if you are unsure. Had he actually read The Highway Code, he would've known that you can't U-turn on a motorway.

If you are drunk or very tired, you shouldn't be driving and instinct should tell you that you are doing the wrong thing. Driving the wrong way is quite obvious and I question if he even had a driving/drivers licence.

Harm to self is usually self-induced. Harm to others, different story.

Travel / Travellers to Śląsk-Opolskie beware - pumas on the loose [83]

Sorry, language is changing and I'm here to point that out. You will find 'deers' in some dictionaries. Some things change over time. For example, fish can be fishes and I've heard native speakers use it that way. English is so broad and flexible and if I write it naturally without feeling it as an error, it's probably right (without sounding smug I hope).

Next you'll be telling me that you spell humour as humor ;) ;) ;)

Go and check it in WikiAnswers.com, ask What do you call a deer in plural? I think you'll find the percentage answer quite staggering.

I know the consensus opinion but we don't have to stick to Stone-age traditions. I'd generally prefer deer as the plural as that's what I was taught. Then again, I don't always go with what I was taught :) :)

Yeah, female deers run away though. Male deers wouldn't need to do anything as I wouldn't be threatening them. Their antlers are dangerous but I wouldn't be afraid of them. Big cats yes.

I though koza was a goat

Work / ADVICE: Teaching English in Poland, will I get hired [21]

I would. The CELTA is expensive and is only really an entrance-level qualification. The DELTA is the one which shows fuller dedication to the process of teaching. MSc's too. Stall on it until you hear from the schools.

Work / Interview at a Callan School [204]

Even the schools that do the accounting for you botch it up. I had to get my financial guy to take over and rebalance the books. Even he made a pig's ear of the PIT. I had a little trouble at the tax office again and I told them that I wasn't in the mood for playing games. They thrive on petty squabbles here.

We have the same in Scotland. I often cycled near the prime locations and found nothing. Still, humans love the element of danger. It's not like 30 are roaming loose around a few forests. If the risk element was so high, forests would be cordoned off. Some have been in Opolskie. If my bike pump works, I'm off out tomorrow to the top spots but it is a daunting prospect in a way.

Well, the gay elephant is relatively harmless. Why aren't Polish rangers (leszicy?) putting out more information of its whereabouts? It is their job to monitor and inform. I'd hate to see a kid getting caught by one of these cats. Forests are often used around here for hikers and cyclists.

There was a case back in 2006 where 2 alligators were spotted in Jaworzno so stranger things have happened. The funniest was when a Japanese men went fishing and discovered an alligator. It's funny because he didn't get hurt. What a fright he got!

it has also gone international. No less then Reuters has covered it. My friend thinks I'm a nut for mentioning it but police have gone through villages with megaphones, emphasising the need for safety and vigilance.
