Food / MARMITE IN POLAND? [96]

But it's similar to coffee in that it'll lift you only temporarily. Think about it, the principal cause of a hangover is dehydration. Marmite is loaded with salt and is only gonna compound the problem after some time. I remember eating it after a hangover tho, yummy!! English breakfasts too :)

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

I go along with his findings. I think that homogeneous societies vote more predictably and purposefully. I believe in tolerance in diversity but don't actively promote MC.

Food / Polish Cuisine in the Foreigner's Eyes [28]

Hungarian soups are spicy so maybe. Scottish soups are 3 then. Clam chowder is legendary but what about the others from that country?

Food / Polish Cuisine in the Foreigner's Eyes [28]

Yeah, Polish cuisine lags behind a few but it's not really a competition, it's just different. It suits the Poles well.

Southern, what sweeteners? I don't follow. Are you thinking of Chinese sweet n sour?

The Czechs produce knedle (nothing special) and fried cheese to inflate the gut :( Don't get me wrong, I like it but it's hardly vintage cuisine.

Poland is maybe no1 in the world for soups, maybe even ahead of Scotland and that's saying something.

Strange sauces? Like what? Sweet? You should make your own salads from the wonderful world of fresh vegetables here. My student is a horticultural dude and produces top-class tomatoes (fruit) and cucumbers. The lettuce here is great too. You ought to stay away from McDonalds mate.

The sausages here are superb, esp when grilled.

The Hungarian kitchen really added an edge to the cuisine here. Things like goulasz, bogracz and leczo are part of the national cuisine scene here and are quite popular. We all borrow things from other countries. The Brits esp from India (e.g kedgeree)

UK, Ireland / Poles flee N. Irleand homes after World Cup riots [70]

That wasn't the point, Shelley. I know the mentality of those buffoons and I was just trying to say that they should be made to feel bad for what they did.

Some might be. My friends were Thai-American Poles. Their father is Polish, mother Thai and they have a connection to the States. They didn't encounter any abuse to my knowledge.

The fact remains that hooliganism breeds resentment and they should be banned from stadiums for the wrecking of lives and property. The Poles very rarely admit that they are wrong, it's always an ultra-defensive squabble. They ought to feel ashamed for ruining the lives of their countrymen.

Food / Polish Cuisine in the Foreigner's Eyes [28]

Yeah, I heard that this morning too from one of my students. That whilst the Brits lay the emphasis on presentation, the Poles put it on taste and enjoyment. RIIIIGHT, hence the ketchup on the pizzas. Let's put pork crackles or bacon bits in the lard, just to give it extra heart-attack potential. Even the Scots lag behind with the deep-fried Mars bar.

Food / Where can I find information for a Poland Foods assignment? [12]

McCoy answered you well enough I think.

I would say that Knorr are more popular but it's not very topical. VIFON produce a very nice spicy one which may be popular but I don't know. The one to be careful for is Kim Lan. They have an excellent though pricey restaurant here but the noodles, watch out. The noodles to be found are loaded with fat and calories to an incredible level. Look on the back of the packets and contrast their nutritional value. You'd be taken aback. Avoid Kim Lan noodles.

Tao Tao also produce instant noodles. They are more similar to the ones I tried in Japan but not quite as good. They have more than just powders.

One other factor. Many Poles who went to the UK and came back may have been partial to Pot Noodles and the various types available in the UK. That may have triggered a liking for them here.

I hope that helps you, MinhDung.

UK, Ireland / FIVE DIE AS POLE DRIVES WRONG WAY ON UK MOTORWAY [78]

Yeah, the hard shoulder is there for a clear reason. It's odd as the Poles have quite a thorough theory test. How do I know? Well, my fiancee worked on hers for quite a while. They have 4 possible answers and sometimes 3 are correct. If you get 2/3, I think you don't pass the question. They have 20 questions and we have 35 but it's easier for us.

Still tho!! Different country, different emphasis.

UK, Ireland / FIVE DIE AS POLE DRIVES WRONG WAY ON UK MOTORWAY [78]

Exactly, it's just a different side of the road and people have to adjust to that. It took me a while as a cyclist to get used to it. How on earth was he reading the road? Only he knew what was going through his mind. RIP to the loss of innocent life.

UK, Ireland / FIVE DIE AS POLE DRIVES WRONG WAY ON UK MOTORWAY [78]

I heard somebody say that the UK should be held to account as it condones driving on the left-hand side of the road rather than on the right. It was a Pole who told me this.

Language / Overuse of the words 'po prostu', esp among females [41]

I thought it was on the same trainline. Up in Aberdeen we have a reasonable amount of black people but Clapham was a real eye-opener. Po prostu, cos niesamowitego.

Oh, BISON ;)

I think I was quite near there for an interview. Clapham is near there, right? I'm not too cluey on London, I just know the main parts.

Po prostu, byłem w Londynie tylko 4 razy.
