Feedback / How does this forum work [17]

It's like someone who doesn't know the alphabet would ask to explain how to read

Some people here can't write, but it doesn't stop them trying.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

ll the British women I have ever been out with will not pay for everything

I've never even tried to get a woman to pay for everything.

why most Brits won't go near them now

The news got out about the ways of Polish women, and suddenly not a single British soul wants one.

History / Ancient Polish History thread [180]

Tsardom

Tsar derives from a Roman name, Caesar.
An Empire can be a monarchy or republic.
These are just titles.
Monarchy = Kingdom
I am posting this from the United Queendom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Life / Embarassment of the egocentric use of English language in Poland! [20]

I was out drinking in a Polish town. Much English was being spoken.
A couple of oiks passing by shouted something to the effect of:
"What language do you think you're speaking?"
I quietly muttered a Polish phrase I had learn, but don't know how to spell
(something like 'Who wants to know?')
A Polish friend, however, proudly shouted back in English:
'None of your f***ing business.'

Tesco

voices carried a long way

If you speak with a nasal projection, your voice carries much further, rather like in a supermarket tannoy announcement.

Love / Keeping in touch with my polish friend who doesn't know English [3]

For the last month or so, I have been meaning to write to a friend in Poland.
I'll have to attempt writing in Polish because his English isn't great.
My Polish is fairly minimal too, but that's one thing the forum can help with.
I'm supposed to be visiting him and his family at the end of the year,
so if I don't get myself into gear, this won't happen.
Losing contact with people is too easy if you don't make the effort.

News / Black Immigrant living in Poland infects dozens of women with HIV [174]

re My parents are South Americans

- Ain't this creature a liar?

Some people DO come from South America.
Is a claim to South American parentage basis for calling someone a liar,
or indeed, a creature?
If she had already claimed not to have Guyanan heritage, I'd have said there was some misinformation here,
but I have not been able to find any such inconsistency.

Puzzler, do you know much about the racial characteristics of the population of Guyana, or of South America generally?

UK, Ireland / Should Polish immigrants learn English to work in the UK? [77]

human rights u do gooders

Let's not get confused about all the different rights we have.
It must do what it says on the tin, or statutory rights are not being fulfilled.

our country has no pride no more

Longleat comes to mind.

History / Ancient Polish History thread [180]

Perhaps someone could start with the furthest back in time, and try to work forwards from there.
Tall order, I know.

I was talking to someone about Stonehenge. It got me thinking: what is the oldest surviving relic in Poland?
Any standing stones? That sort of thing.

if you refuse proving YOUR point once again

I asked you a question. That is not the same as making a point.

Murzynka denied that the rascal is African

In which post?

Now, you also seem to have a rather positve attitude towards Murzynka, Osiol, don't you?

Are you attempting to divide forum contributors into categories here.
I have what I believe in, Murzynka has what she believes in, and you have what you believe in.
I want you to clarify your claims about others.
I also want you not to condemn people by association - some shared opinions do not mean all opinions are shared.
Likewise, a contributor's ways of expressing opinions do not lead to others with similar opinions believing that those ways of expressing opinion are correct.

I am not taking personal sides here. I am asking you to explain how you have come to your conclusions about other people.

Why should halal be vailable in Poland

Halal produce in Britain is, I believe, mostly produced by Muslims themselves.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Oh I see, so when a pole threatens to break my skull, nothing is said by Osiol

I'm not here all the time. I arrived a little later.
I'm not sure either that he was personally threatening you.

but when I return the compliment, he can't wait to jump on me about it

Correct.

And I suppose that's not racist right?

What? An Englishman accusing another Englishman of being a moron with a temper problem?

News / Puzzler, what are your TRUE thoughts on Poland and it's place in the EU? [29]

Certainly here where I live there are no beatings at all of the Poles

I have seen a couple of reports in the national media, one of which appeared on this forum.
The lack of evidence for there being a serious problem - evidence from Polish people I know, British people I know, and even from the media, suggests that there is no more or very little more of a problem in this regard than there is with anyone being attacked on the streets of Britain.

UK, Ireland / Brits and Poles - can't we all just... get along? [20]

why concentrate on negtive experiences,,, how about some positive ones as well

I won't bore you all with examples of cross-cultural and inter-ethnic fun I have experienced or witnessed in my life.
But I might just mention how much fun you can have sharing eachother's languages' animal noises.
If you already speak the same language, but come from different backgrounds,
try sharing some animalistic noises in a different way - it can still be pleasurable.

Did I just say that? Oh my word!
For the purposes of this thread, please note: I am not a real donkey - just a man dressed up as one for forum purposes only!

Life / Condoms and the Catholic church in Poland [83]

There is so much difference within Christianity, beyond the traditional categorisation into Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant. Anglicanism is not particularly Protestant as compared to say Presbyterianism. I know a village with two seperate Baptist congegations. They each believe eachother to be completely wrong!

Also, most Christians around the world hold on, to various different levels, to pre-Christian traditions.

Yes, but at what price?

Does one need to be renumerated for one's sympathy?
Or is it the help bit that involves money changing hands?
I know some ecclesiastical people have been found to be dodgy, but...

i insist on my cappuccino served with a smile

I've asked for Guinness served with a smile instead of a Shamrock.
There's a difference between a forced, fake smile
and just not moaning at every customer.

- Am I? I guess I'm trying to pay in kind for the prejudice towards us. I hope you agree I've got the right to do that?

I've already said goodnight, then I spotted this.

No.
Two wrongs do not make a right, Mr. Puzzler.
I too hope for universal equality.

What exactly would this particular idea be? Can you spell it out?

No.
I believe we have discussed this before.
I don't have time now.
Goodnight.

the Poles opinion on the Brits has changed

I realise that is what he was saying in his post,
but his posts do show a particular idea of how the British see the Polish.

I offer no opinion on the rest as i'm not in a position to comment.

We all see the world through different eyes ergo we don't all see the same thing.
Some opinions seem to be based on views of the world given through more biased channels of the media.

Fair enough not to comment.

Third Worlders in place of those hated Poles

You're bringing your own prejudice of other people in the world in here.
You have also jumped to conclusions about British opinions about the Polish.

News / Black Immigrant living in Poland infects dozens of women with HIV [174]

But they alone haven't saved Britain from the German conquest

No individual did. It was a collective struggle.

as the person calling herself Murzynka alleges

I think she was not so much saying that they single-handedly saved the day,
but that you should not disregard their efforts in making a positive difference.

News / English vs. Polish hostility [323]

the English mentality

The English mentality?
There are as many different English mentalities as you get from the following equation:

= Total population of England - (Circulation of the Daily Mail + a few more)
