News / FRENCH SNUB POLISH WAR EFFORT [50]

Also, the French were firmly against going into Iraq (which is good) but Sarkozy was quick to do deals with companies there and curry favour with other parties in the Muslim world.

He's a scabby little opportunist :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Spitfire shoots down BNP [63]

It's not his style to launch into random attacks on Brits. Ukpolska I mean.

British Empire may be just a toned-down version of Noimmi.

Direct from Belgium, gotta love those fries, Torqy boy :)

France would have been slaughtered at the Maginot line without help. Normandy would be German now without assistance.

Sarkozy clearly doesn't see Poland as high profile enough :( He's a scabby and stingy Jew who goes on swanky holidays and doesn't foot the bill. He'd fit in well on this list news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/8039273.stm, TRAGIC.

I agree that Sarkozy is a megalomaniac. Churchill was responding to necessity. Did he draw up all the strategies without any help? I don't think so somehow. Did he give praise to all those where praise was due? No.

My point is that both have done likewise and, on this matter alone, are both guilty of being aloof and ungrateful. Maybe if they didn't let Poland slide into communism, they may have joined this 'great' EU ;) (or the EEC as it was).

That's not the point I was making, lesser. Did Churchill welcome the Poles to Britain after WWII? Did he suitably honour their commendable efforts? I'd say no.

He had strong words against the Polish people. Selfish and stubborn were but two.

I don't think he meant it that way, Mister H. He just wanted to say that language broadens the mind, he didn't single out any nation as being inept for not speaking more than one language.

Sarkozy is an idiot who is so far up his own a*s that he wouldn't recognise any outside influence/help. People like him and Churchill just bask in their own glory and forget the most basic courtesy of recognition.

Life / MAFIA-STYLE CATHOLICISM IN POLAND? [2]

I think the nature of the modern world is pushing people away from altruism, instead favouring competition against neighbours and believing that moral law isn't always worth following.

There is a hardcore who will maintain all traditions and follow them to a tee but they are dwindling. After all, it is said that 40% of 'Catholics' here don't actually practise. That suggests suit-me, suit-me ways and selectivism.

What I have found is that most can't even separate spirituality from the teachings of the RCC.

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

I completely agree with Switezianka, another case of a priest using his moral standing to venture into unknown territory and try to influence people's decisions. When will they ever learn? He should have put it into a spoof series :)

That's a Slovakian proverb. Nice idea, I sometimes feel like a different person speaking a different language. It'd be strange to hear myself speaking Japanese now but it was normal before.

Study / anyone with CELTA? [73]

Online is not recommended. It is often perceived as a duck-and-dodge way of doing it as there is no substitute for real classtime.

Harry is the man to ask. To my knowledge, only Bell but maybe International House and Berlitz?

Travel / Opinion about polish tourists [9]

You should try being in amongst older ones. Some were moaning like there was no tomorrow. Still, many were quiet and unassuming, they were easy to get on with :)

This is based on my recent trip to the Balkans.

News / Euro Elections 4th June - Who will you vote for ? [110]

As long as or provided that are both good. It is understandable in Polish, yes, but unless would mean the opposite, lesser.

Unless is more like 'if not'. I won't help you unless you help me, for example.

I'd vote for the SNP were I in Scotland.

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

Well, correct me if I'm wrong but Poland joined the EU in May 2004 when Germany was a powerhouse (still is). The EU stresses partnership and not resentment.

News / Are people losing jobs in Poland? [5]

Some are, some aren't. The crisis was a good excuse to lay off some people, to get rid of the undesirables.

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

Crow, the fact is that Poles are devout Catholics and thus favour Croatia. There are many ties with Serbia, yes, but many Poles would favour Croats on the basis of religion alone. One Belarussian student in my class didn't want to discuss religion as she was prawo-sławny like the Serbs are. That's just the way it is.

News / Searching for keys in Polish-Russian relations [75]

I like Putin's interview technique, that's what I have said all along. He is straight up and well prepared.

As for personality, I prefer Kasparov. He speaks against injustice and looks to further human logic and endeavour through chess and mathematics.

Kasparov is doing a great job in using his persona and intellect not to bring about change as such but to raise awareness and give an insiders' perspective.
