Language / Counting of Polish currency [28]

How about counting pesetas and céntimos?
I know Spain no longer uses the old currency, but Polish must have a way of counting it.

Peseta - would this be treated as a feminine noun in Polish?
Céntimo - would Polish treat this as neuter like other words ending in -o?

Just an example.

Language / Polish words shared with the french language [29]

if you can believe Wiki

I believe the Etymological dictionary I have, but only to a point.
The original meaning of the Sanskrit 'vatinganah' should be anti-fart vegetable.
This is not neccesarily how aubergines are understood today.

Like aubergine and eggplant?

Eggplant is I think more of an American English term.
Solanum melongena - it's in the same genus as potato and tomato.
Brinjal is still used in some shops.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

yeah... apparently we should have listend to it decades ago

I've got better things to do with my time machine.

Staying on topic:
To the Polish man who scaped my non-stick saucepan with a metal spoon - you shall suffer.
That's how much.

The British Nazi Party won't be here long? Sounds good to me.

Life / What is the position of Esperanto in Poland? [16]

Esperanto is very easy to learn, especially if you speak English or a Latin-derived language.
There are something like 16 rules to learn and nothing irregular.
I have met a few Esperantists - quite a strange, but likeable bunch.

I also once got on a Warsaw tram with Esperanto emblazoned across the front.
Dr. Zamenhof was from Bialystok, I believe. Luckily the tram stopped before there.

BRITANNIA RULES THE WAVES

Waving goodbye and good riddance to you, I like to think.
Liking to think - something you don't have the option of.

UK, Ireland / Polish as Irelands Third Offical language? [123]

In fact Michal, the 2006 CSO study has found that 41% of Irish people can speak Irish across the island; not just a 'few people in the west.'

But how much is it used as a day-to-day means of communication outside of these few areas in the west?

Language / Occupations in Polish! [8]

Let's bring this back to the top.
I shall now add a supplementary question, if I may, Telefonitika.

Are job titles in Polish as silly as some of the English ones I am aware of?

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

People who poke their noses into the private lives of others and their sexual preferences (that involve consenting adults and do no harm to others), and make sweeping generalisations about them...

I don't make sweeping generalisations about these people, such as 'They...

are mentally ill

But these are attitudes I have very little time for.
The time for these attitudes has passed...

the dark ages

Life / Halloween in Poland? [77]

I nearly ploughed into three girls in witches costumes on my bicycle yesterday evening.
I was on my bicycle, not the witch girls. That would have been strange - where did I get that plough, how did they get my bicycle.

Always crack the bottoms of your eggshells to stop the witches making boats or little baloon-baskets.
It's a good thing I was careful and didn't run anyone over or I might have been on the receiving end of some voodoo...

or some foul-mouthed little kids.

he wanted to do away the government

That is the king and his parliament, all in one go.

he was hanged on the early hours on the following day

I hadn't thought they did away with him quite so quickly.

Feedback / Forum suggestion: What about Polonia - Ireland? [65]

I just shrug my shoulders and get on with it

Kiwi? I can usually tell by the accent.
My apologies if you're actually from Tristan Da Cunha or somewhere.

Being wrongly considered Australian must be worse than being given a PF department to share with Brazilians, Chileans, Tongans and the people of Mozambique. That sounds like quite a lot of fun.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

If someone tells you something is a good idea, you don't neccesarily follow, do you?
I believe the communism of those who came after Marx and Engels twisted it into their own forms.
I am not saying that communism IS Russian, Jewish, Slavic.... I am not giving it any such attribute.

Feedback / Forum suggestion: What about Polonia - Ireland? [65]

Double titles usually work better with the short name first.
UK (2 syllables) & Ireland (3 syllables)

Oscar & Hammerstein
Lennon & McCartney
Dollond & Aitchison
Marks & Spencer
sh!t & shovel

Love / My girlfriend thinks she's pregnant! Pomocy!! [75]

You say you're young and want to do exciting things with your life, but think about it this way:
If this happens when you're young, you'll still be young when your child is grown up.
Worrying gets you nowhere. If it does happen, you both just have to take control of your lives together.
This may be easier said than done, but if you just do what you know to be right, everything should be alright.
