History / Are there sports invented by Poles? [16]

they are called throwing sticks

sort of my point... at what stage did a stick... picked up off the ground or from a tree, but nonetheless curved to increase the areodynamics and stability in flight... become a boomerang so that it can be established that the oldest one is 20,000 years old and from poland...?

The oldest known non-returning boomerang, an artifact found in Poland, dates from about 20,000 years ago.

:)

so... a non-returning boomerang would be a stick that you throw... :(

Work / How many polish adults want to learn English? [16]

is there a difference between a CELTA and the Trinity TESOL?

the difference between these 2 qualifications depends on who you talk to...

the CELTA originally referred to itself as an EFL qualification designed for teaching english abroad, as mentioned earlier the A refers to Adult and it concentrates on group teaching... Cambridge now calls the qualification ESOL - i wonder why... - and is happy to sell you a Young Learners programme once you have completed the CELTA…

Trinity Cert. TESOL is, as it suggests, an ESOL qualification… designed to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages in a native English speaking countries… the course covers young learners as well as adults and looks at teaching individuals as well as groups… some courses may also contain elements of teaching business English…

QTS is an entirely different qualification…

CELTA and TCL Cert. TESOL will get you a job teaching English in a private language school in Poland… having QTS wont… necessarily

Teaching adults and children English is the same thing except perhaps for the discipline in the classroom

i think you will find a lot of people happy to disagree with this statement...

Language / The cost of proof-reading of a full time student's thesis? [9]

i have charged international students in the uk both by the page or by word count and worked these out in relation to what i feel i can do in an hour... there are wide variations in language ability... experience has also taught me to establish from the start if they are expecting you to correct their errors... or just highlight them...

i really think it is up to the two of you to sit down and work out what is fair... the price i charge my friends is in my first post... which where i live is not far off 15zl per 1OOO

UK, Ireland / The un-acceptable side of new entrant countries coming to the UK [56]

Before we throw stones (metaphorical) at migrants, we should all study our own financial input and output, and then ask how our country can survive economically.

good point CS... stating the obvious... shame so many people miss it...

Law / Advice on investment of $40,000 in the Warsaw area [30]

property could well be something to look at - buy a place, live in it, save on rental costs and sell 5 yrs later...

true - 40,000 US will get you very little in most of warszawa but anything it does get you will be worth a lot more in 5 yrs time
