Genealogy / Last name Confusion "Judah" [13]

Thanks, I was just confused alittle why a catholic would keep their old jewish name when converted lol,

There is no such thing like Catholic surname. If Jews changed their names, this is not because they converted to Catholicism.

News / Poland and Germany - Germany unhappy with the present border with Poland? [88]

CDU and Bavarian CSU issued a joint proclamation asked for international condemnation of expulsions also they asked for "recognition of the infringed rights".

CDU and CSU = PiS

Usually this is profitable to play the populist card during election campaign. However some parties specialize in doing this by use of historic issues.

euphemism from Onet.pl portal of that Limonov is an active part (member) in political life. *shrug*

Good job, one must be really a person of bad will to use such euphemism. Onet.pl is the biggest internet portal in Poland, although rather for sure it was not a headline story.

News / Euro Elections 4th June - Who will you vote for ? [110]

Of course, Barroso did not say

This is of course the easiest way to question translation of Polish public radio. If you are so sure, please provide original quote in English. Then you will say that English is not his native language and thus we should ignore this comment. The EU have well established tradition of rejecting democratic choices that they dislike.

Do you think that result of referendums in Netherlands and France should be respected?
How many times the people of Ireland should vote on Lisbon treaty?

I am quite amazed to see that on a forum re Poland where many of the participants are either non Poles living in Poland or Polish people living outside of Poland, most of the votes seem to be going to anti European parties..

I don't see here any anti-European people posting. I see people expressing their dislike towards the EU.

Do you have a courage to defend EU policy on this forum? Does above mentioned comment of Barroso amaze you to the same extend?

News / Euro Elections 4th June - Who will you vote for ? [110]

Ill make it my priority to be in Ireland to vote, and I will be voting for Libertas. Not because I buy into al lot of their bullsh**, but because there isnt another viable option. I detest the EU and for everything it stands for, Ill also be voting NO again to the Lisbon Treaty

Jose Manuel Barroso in Polish Radio encourage Polish citizens to participate in elections.

Translation

European parliament is important institution and position of different states depends from their activity. This is why I encourage Poles to participate in European debate. However I underline: Obviously I respect all political choices, unless of course it is democratic and pro-European.

Obviously 'we' understand the message, of course they will decide when it is democratic and pro-European! :)))) Viva EUSSR! Viva the new EU nationalism!

I'll vote for UPR cause I know they gonna mock that useless institution.

Every honest European should do it!

Do I sense a hardcore UPR supporter here? ;-)

Yes I sympathize with UPR and expect usual nothing. Thus I'm pretty relaxed and don't treat all this circus very seriously :)

As far as PR is concentrated, Marek Jurek or Marian Pilka were members of PiS no without a reason. Only a socialist could stand their demagogy.

Which was a mistake and I don't count it as an independent start
in the election.

In this game in their position every decision would be a mistake. They could not even register themselves.

I hope they'll get about 4-5% but I wouldn't hold
my breath.

5%? In our parliament this would be absolutely enough to become another "przystawka" of PiS.

I'm tempted to vote UKIP as I'm totally disillusioned with mainstream parties.

I don't know about minor British parties, however from those noticeable UKIP sound like the only voice of reason. I don't approve their policy at every point, simply the rest don't deserve a vote so much.

I'll vote for Marek Jurek's Prawica Rzeczypospolitej - the only
true Catholic-conservative party in Poland.

It is also just another party in Poland advocating socialism.

It will be interesting to see how many votes they'll get, since they failed to gain the required number of votes to get into the Polish national parliament in the last election.

I think, about 1%. Most of Poles are probably unaware of their existence.

That would had been a hard thing to do considering the fact that
they didn't start in the last election, mate.

They did in coalition with LPR and UPR.

History / "Shafting the Poles" [44]

Seanus, the answer is YES. No matter what politicians write or say. Nobody can predict the future, geopolitical reality might change and deciders must be aware of this even if they would wish to save status quo.

So you are telling me NATO is a "temporary cooperation based on common interest"? What's temporary about it?

Different subject have different perspective. A child plan in a very short perspective, adult person longer (depends also from intellectual quality of individual). Also human life is usually much shorter than standard existence of the state. Thus term temporary might mean much longer period of time if we talking about the state.

After collapse of the Soviet Union NATO redefined its principles. When there is no common enemy, such general concepts are less lasting. Your countryman Cyrill Parkinson wrote that political bodies are less and less important when more an more people is offered a membership/voting right. So enlargement is also test for NATO. It is very likely that the strongest members create some smaller bodies which hitjack most of competences of political structures of NATO .

Ally means friend.

A friendship is in a long time perspective, it is based on feelings. Alliance it is temporary cooperation based on common interest. Someone who confuse these words ask for troubles! :)

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

It is interesting that between the wars Polish ethnologists spent a great deal of time and effort 'proving' that groups like the Lemko and Hutsul were polish and spoke Polish dialects. Come 1947 and Akcja Wisła these groups were redefined 'Ukrainian'.

If you are so well informed about the issue, you should notice that these periods have very little in common, including ruling establishment. Anyway Akcja Wisla was orchestrated by Stalin, without his approval nothing like that could happen.

Is that necessarily a good thing though?

Yes it is, immigration policy should be run by the state ruled by reasonable elites. While people should save their energy for some positive actions that would improve their comfort of living.

By asking for compensation it sounds more like Poland went into the war as mercenaries.

Sounds? Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz at that time Polish foreign minister of leftist government openly said that Poland went to Iraq for oil! This is not a secret.

News / Searching for keys in Polish-Russian relations [75]

Lesser, I suggest you reading at leasure some of his "pearls" like "To ja, Edichka" to better understand his freak nature. :) Is he really well-known writer?

No thanks! :) I have little idea, this is not subject of my interest. However I doubt, media often promote some strange people and try to show them in the best light.

Do you understand this part? the best of the best of our media.

What would you ask him, lesser?

1. What kind of democracy do you preaching, the EU style authoritative nanny state or Swiss direct model? Or maybe something else?

2. What kind of economic policy do you prefer? Moderate European socialism or rather classical liberalism?

3. I don't know wherever you are member of ROC (here I would except that he admit his religious sympathies or lack of it) but I would like to know you opinion about role of ROC in today's and tomorrow's Russia.

4. Do you think that Russia should sign Kyoto Protocol or some similar document in the future?

5. What do you think about privatization in Russia? Both in the past and in the future.

That would give me some clue about his stances. Whole this interview was rather boring, standard pro-democratic crusade without any details.

Also it was nice how he had his nose rubbed in that he'd collaborated with nazbols who are essentially bunch of bigots.

This is funny how ourmedia outlets used to put Limonov as a some kind of authority and quote his comments about Putin. They described him as a great Russian writer and did not mention about his activity in National Bolshevik movement. Priceless! :)

Here you have a link to article when author criticize such practice and quote such pathetic article. Good Bolshevik in service of Russophobia.

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

The problem is not on the number of women i would love to have.I support the whole idea of one man one woman but like i said marriage life has both ups and downs. There are some disputes that need more than spiritual thing to be settled and u can not force the couple to go back to the same bed for the sake of faith.I think u understand what i mean,i mean after reaching that stage there is no need to wait till one of you is died.

OK, so problem identified, it is your attitude! People who are afraid that they may spoil something or make incorrect decision are much more likely to fail and make wrong decisions! If you were careful before you chose wife and truly love her then nothing tragic can happen. The problem is when you were too quick or simply desperate. You must feel that you are playmaker, you must believe in your own reason.

This is the purpose of lifetime marriage that partners need to take care about each other instead searching for an opportunity to escape like a rat. It also encourage people to don't hurry with decision that affect at least most of their life!

Adherence to outdated religious ideals...

This is really funny if a person like you accuse a person like me to be backward :)) This is very comfortable for a leftist to say that everybody who doesn't share your basic fallacies is backward. I think that this labelling improve your humour spoiled by obvious intellectual inferiority that you feel. :)

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

In the younger generation people care less about this.

Yes, we keep woman until she finish 30 or give a birth to second child.

I hate that catholic thing that marriage should only be separated by death

How many wives you would wish to have during your entire life?

I think that you should consider Islam, this might be an option if this is issue of special importance for you.

Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira
les aristocrates on les pendra!

If I would be a king of France at that time, it would be 'nice' massacre!

You misunderstood me, the essence of Polish noblemen is to confront unpatriotic persons not peasents :)

Only one question left, what is really patriotic and what is not?

History / Heretics Asylum - The First Republic of Poland [50]

Because what? Because you have the power to decide what Catholicsm is?

Of course I don't, this seems to be your personal ambition.

Going by your definition, maybe 15% of people who consider themselvs Catholics are "the real thing".

Maybe it's time for a redefinition of what it means to be Catholic, rather than just slapping on the sticker passed down by the parents.

How about more simple solution, no redefinition and who reject the teachings stop call himself Catholic?

If let say 60% of people would be thieves, what would we do? Redefine thieve? Democracy rules! :)

I, for one, am anticlericall Catholic.

This is something like controlled chaos or socialist free marketer. :)

Is it important to you to be "fake" Catholic as opposite to the real thing?

The point is to water down Catholic doctrine/theology. This is not even about redefinition, the point is to cause that word "Catholic" would mean "nothing precisely" (= "precisely nothing").
