Travel / How Can I Not be the "Ugly American" Tourist in Poland? [97]

The other day I saw about 15 Americans together walking up Regent St in London all wearing sweatshirts with 'USA' written across them massive letters covering their entire, rather generous, torsos. That was overkill. I cant believe at least one of them didnt think it a bad idea.

News / Could Poland handle another war? [63]

The same is true about T's comments.

No, his comments addressed the question.

His opinions are stemming from blind anti-polonism.

Irelevant.

This is a relevant response-

The question is to vague to answer. We need more details.

this isnt-

with your 2 digit IQ you are likely to have a problem with understanding this.

You are a victimized warrior race.

The English? You'll have to explain that one.

This warrior race tag is bollox anyway as most countries, with the exception of the Swiss, seem to lay claim to it.

It took much longer than it took Germans to kick the combined French and British forces in May of 1940.

As ShelleyS suggested, attacked by two most powerful European armies Britain would not last a week had it not been an island. But then, with your 2 digit IQ you are likely to have a problem with understanding this.

No one's denied this but thats not the subject of the thread!

Again, those who are getting upset by Tornado's opinion are bringing up irrelevancies because his opinions offend their blind patriotism.

But then...only taking up weapons if in defense, being attacked doesn't make you "natural warriors"
but rather "forced fighters"!
A warrior-people prefers war to anything else..

True. Its a bit contradictory to say 'we're a warrior race' and 'we're always the victims'. The two dont quite relate.

News / Could Poland handle another war? [63]

Well...in Germany it was called "militarism" and it was regarded by the allies as a bad thing and something to get out of the Germans!

With Poles it's a "good" thing because?

Because Poles werent the ones doing the invading. I know its hard for a German to imagine a war which you didnt start but for Poles this is quite normal.

Youbring me into question and slam me each time i have an opinion, well at least i have one and its much better than just bad mouthing people like you do. its always good to make a point as well as slag people off, how about it, try it :)

There was nothing wrong with your answer that I could see but some people regard your answer as the wrong one. They however havent said what the right one is.

You guys are losing your country to foreigners :)

Thats the price you pay for having a country that people actually want to live in.

Kilkline:What is the acceptable Polish answer to this question?

I like your style mate!

Just trying to put the question in as inoffensive a way as possible to avoid prodding what is obviously a very sore subject for Poles.

Life / Present for Polish friends ~ is anything hard to get any more? [57]

I am definitely not taking any alcohol. Chocolate isn't safe ~ I'd eat it all before I got there LOL.

Well, if you're not taking alcohol or chocolate I'd be surprised if they'll let you visit again. Maybe you could take clothes? I know most Poles are quite unhappy with the choice of children clothing in Poland.

Life / Present for Polish friends ~ is anything hard to get any more? [57]

Most things are available so maybe take things that are British/Irish brands e.g. Baileys Irish Cream (I've yet to meet a Polish woman who doesnt love the stuff), a Scottish or Irish Whiskey for the guys is always appreciated, some of those Heroes chocolates, Maltesers etc. All pretty safe stuff.

USA, Canada / Young male American Poles [34]

To me it looked like Vfunk and Franek were having a bit of banter and Franek was holding his own fine. Some people who were observing it probably dont have quite the same sense of humour maybe.

That would be their problem.

They'll know anyway due to the fact that you'll be having a visibly good time rather than nursing a pint with a straw in it.

Travel / The decline of Krakow due to British drunks and What to see in Krakow? [52]

Flooding the old town in miserable drunken groups, attacking our decent local girls because they think them easy,

most contribute really nothing other than...a few pregnant women

The decent local girls must occasionally have an off day I think.

I had an Italian mate who when he watched Valencia in the champions league would say how he liked one of their players but he would never be able to play in Italy as his name was Angulo. It would be like having a player in England called Uckyourself.

UK, Ireland / Poles and Poles in the UK = animosity [42]

Plastic-Alert! You forgot to reference dentistry and scones like most Yanks do when trying to insult Brits.

Britain doesnt have gangsters round the world for the same reason most of Europe doesnt i.e. because we have a high standard of living and an effective police and judiciary. No need for us to suck anyones dick. Its called progress.

What is it that causes this unpleasant stereotype?

I thought Plastic-Paddies were bad with their comical wearing of shamrocks and financing of terrorism but maybe this lack of culture is associated with Plastics everywhere.

VaFunkoolo- I just 'got' your name. Italian I believe.

UK, Ireland / Tell me whats the best way to integrate in england [26]

Dont go to Birmingham. It is the most awful city in Britain whatever criteria you decide to measure it by. The towns around the Midlands are ok though (not Wolverhampton though).

Life / What nation Poles like the most? [56]

I've heard from Poles that they dont like to support England because of football hooliganism. A bit rich considering Poland have the worst football hooligans in Europe.

History / Pope John Paul II tried to prevent that Polish politics batray Serbians?! [22]

You want to make it too Spanish? Come on don't cherish any hope, your time had elapsed many centures ago. Nation of relaxed citizens go on your weakining in the perpetual siesta....

They may enjoy a siesta but their economy is still bigger and more succesful than Russia's. Maybe you should get rid of your dictator like they did and maybe you'll enjoy moderate success.

News / The past and future of Poland. Poland is lost. [113]

Poland is lost. I lived in Poland when Poland was a nice country to visit. Now its just Europe. Expensive. Bloated prices. Housing ready to bust. Zloty exchange rate too strong. Poland was nice when it was cheap to visit. But without cheap accomodations, it's just another European country with old crumbly buildings, lots of drunks and old people left behind, and a desire to forget how backwards they were just 10 years ago. In many ways, Poland is still backwards. It's worse than Russia in that Poles are arrogant and stupid and have given what promise they ever had to the Western Europeans for cheap.

I visited Poland before they joined the EU also. The changes have been largely good but of course with increased opportunities and wealth comes increased greed and jealousy. As a Westerner to say that Poles should go back to some sort of post-communist idyll where 'we were poor, but we were happy' is arrogant in the extreme. It reminds me of those people who think that third world countries should be kept in dark ages to serve as some sort of theme park of how we used to live.

UK, Ireland / Questions about obtaining a UK mortgage with Polish girlfriend. [24]

If you are buying a property for your main residence then I'm not too sure you should wait.

Sometimes it makes sense to rent if property prices are falling. Why pay 200k for something that is going to be worth 150k in 18 months time?

if your main home drops in value then the home you will be buying will also experience a similar drop

Yes but if your upscaling rather than downscaling then this is a desirable situation. A 10% drop on a 300k house is bigger than a 10% drop on a 200k house. It narrows the gap and makes a bigger house more affordable even though your own house has dropped in value. In short if you're a first time buyer or if you want to move to a bigger more expensive property then a houseprish crash is a desirable situation. The trick is knowing when the market has bottomed out and timing your purchase accordingly. Not an impossible thing to achieve.
