UK, Ireland / Father's Day cards banned in Scottish schools [64]

The golden word in life is balance. If they did it tactfully and caring for sensitivities, I don't see a problem. As long as people don't feel singled out.

News / Should Poland send volunteers to Georgia ? [100]

Most aggressive Slavs? Strange to hear a Greek say that. If Macedonia was attacked, they'd show their tough side too.

The Poles largely patrolled Georgian territory. They had a backseat role.

Poland had soldiers there. People in that region were hostile to them. I didn't realise the region was so charged. One Abkhazian tried to start something, firmly believing that NATO was meddling.

News / 14 year old rape victim from Warsaw denied abortion! [348]

Gumishu, I respect your opinion on many things!! I am one of the last people to believe national press. In fact, to let you in on something, I can't remember the last time I read a newspaper. So much doom and gloom :( I inform myself in other ways.

I'm not a big fan of abortion either. I was conditioned at university to look at all factors which play a part in deciding which position to take. Therefore, I can identify with your final paragraph.

Calm analysis will often yield the best results :)

News / 14 year old rape victim from Warsaw denied abortion! [348]

You said she was no rape victim but a Pole posted the story and said she was.

Aha, so I should be killed when I'm asleep, right? I'm unconscious then :) How about stoners who are unconscious of what is around them? Should we do away with them?

I'm glad that you are prepared to delve into the intricacies of it, gumishu. Abortion is not black and white and I won't be put in anyone's bag by taking an overly definitive position.

Tell me, gumishu, what is sentience and at what stage can it be verifiably proven?

Love / Gay Interracial Polish Dating [36]

They do, czesław, but they have lives too. People will be as they will be. Just shrug your shoulders and laugh it off. Pol3 is a victim of excessive indoctrination, he hasn't learned to think outside the box.

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

Nathan, the Ukrainians were very brutal in Warsaw. Yes, the resident Poles were naive to believe that the Ukrainians were coming to their aid but they were even as brutal as the SS officers.

The war was not conducted extensively in Ukraine, much more in Poland. ZIMMY is right, there are just too many maybes.

Love / Gay Interracial Polish Dating [36]

Pol3, I know a Polish gay guy. Want to talk it through with him? What does it matter to you what he does behind closed doors? What law is he breaking in his own house?

Geez, controversial stuff. The legal limit of 14 weeks applies to those who got pregnant and want to reverse it. Being raped is a different kettle of fish. Being 11, she wasn't aware of the legal position and, morally, couldn't be allowed to have that baby.

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

Well, some Poles are shunned for moving abroad. Some see that their voting rights should be diluted for not staying 'in touch' with domestic issues.

Anyway, back to the topic. Did any of your family members fight in the war, Torq?

Yes but the cost of living is much higher there too. Plus, Poles are patriots and love most things Polish. Why should they leave?

So money is a major factor for Poles, rather than enjoyment of their homeland?

Life / Are Polish people civilised or not? My thoughts... [52]

Thanks :) I was in Chorzów in Aug 2007 for the wedding of my fiancee's bro. Not knowing Chorzów, I decided to go off on a walk to see some parts. I was swiftly caught up by my fiancee who proceeded to tell me off. She told me that I was heading for the parts which housed the dregs of humanity, those uncivilised brutes that would stick a knife in your back and ask you if you want seconds.

Those gwara speaking swines ;) ;)

Study / Celta - Application Form [24]

I got a bare pass but I was spent void of energy at that time. I was discussing this tonight with a high-level student. I scored really well at uni but for what?? It wouldn't have made one iota of difference if I'd've gotten an A in my CELTA. My markers were pretty critical too, it was one of the best schools in Europe.

Those Edinburgh snobs ;)
