Language / When does polish "ch" sound like eng "ch" and when is it "h"? [59]

Greg, think of the difference in sound between Ruch and Lech, concentrate when you are saying those 2 sounds and you will hear a difference. Ch in Ruch is deeper, lighter in Lech, a higher pitch. Lech is said with a more open mouth.

Food / Wroclaw has an Indian Restaurant [34]

I might have to make a trip up to Wrocław. My jaw almost dropped off as I saw the price of a jar of Sharwoods here, 30PLN. Not even half the size of a meal in a nice Indian restaurant and no atmosphere.

Super menu above. I'd love a korma. Yes, I said korma, not k...., oh, never mind :)

Food / Does Polish pierogi also have its story of origin? [43]

You know, it's important not to look at the shapes too much but more to the idea of having a filling inside some dough. I've made Polish pierogi with my fiancee and it's fairly straightforward. There is a white tool which shapes them. The dimsum which I had in Izumo was similar to Polish meat pierogi. My Taiwanese-American friend also made them very well, very similar process.

Travel / One thing i Really hate about most Restaurants in Poland! [14]

What's wrong with surówka? Not all restaurants are this way. In Gazdówka, the local mountaineers restaurant here, it is offered separately as a salad bar which you pay 6PLN for.

I have noticed the excessive boiling though.

Love / What is your opinion on the Polish Ladies in Krakow? [82]

Cardwell, you need to stop your pathetic preaching and get back in touch with the real world. Many in Krakow like Scottish accents and you don't have one, get over it. My friend is 48 and many young women went up and chatted to him as they loved his accent. My accent is weaker which is good as I don't want all this female attention. My fiancee would have a few words to say if I did. I can still look though ;)

News / 100zl note should be phased out. [20]

Save the potatoes. I think having bigger notes encourages people to spend more. When I have a 50 in my hand, I'm usually more selective in what I buy.

News / 100zl note should be phased out. [20]

Here's Jihad to declare holy war on the note ;)

Good point about the ATM's only dispensing 50's. Not even a 20, never mind a 10. How can shopkeepers frown when that's the case?

News / 100zl note should be phased out. [20]

The SeanBM solution :) Instant solutions at your fingertips :)

The two bigger notes are good for Tesco. Many people buy shopping for around 180PLN.

News / 100zl note should be phased out. [20]

I've seen a few recently but they are by no means common. It took me a long time into my stay in Poland to see one for the first time.

The pocket change of big businessmen no doubt.

News / 100zl note should be phased out. [20]

Geez, laddie, if you can phase out the 100zł note then why not the 200zł note? I had one yesterday and the shopkeeper looked aghast as I handed it over. What's the point in having them if shops are gonna react that way?

They humph away at 50's sometimes, never mind a 100 or 200 Złoty bill.

News / JEW YOUTH SHOULD CLEAN UP THEIR ACT IN POLAND [420]

That may be but common sense should prevail. Dariusz, go and watch the Bill Hicks sketch where he asks the Christians for forgiveness, priceless!!

News / JEW YOUTH SHOULD CLEAN UP THEIR ACT IN POLAND [420]

That wasn't the point he was making Dariusz. He was saying that there is a lasting effect from crimes/sins of the past that have carried through to the present.

I think you are wrong on the second point too. Just look at the pre-emptive doctrine of Bush. From the future, no, but sins for the future, yes. He was willing to strike regimes that he felt were a threat but we all know the evidence to be cooked up nonsense. He was gonna do this for acts that hadn't already been committed.

Nothing like guilty until proven innocent, a principle we hold dear (innocent until proven guilty, that is, lol)

Life / Poles in Poland: How did you learn your English? [60]

I was surprised. I think many foreigners would see it as the logical plural of advice, just like knowledge, information or furniture among others. It's an understandable mistake!

News / JEW YOUTH SHOULD CLEAN UP THEIR ACT IN POLAND [420]

All based on distorted history and BS. Why don't Jews go to Hitler's birthtown and smear excrement there? That's how stupid this tit-for-tat game is. Why should modern day people suffer for the acts of previous generations? They are not binding on us. Hitler was the man they wanted and he committed suicide. Why should residents of Hitler's birthplace be tainted?

Hitler was an animal and wasn't taken out quick enough. The international community of those times must be held to account. NOT these times.

Life / Why do other Polish people hate Warsavians? [12]

Class difference, true to an extent. Still, many Warsavians took off for manual jobs in the UK and the UK has an ugly scene for lower-end workers. Job share, PT and low wages. Being in a job centre in Scotland is a depressing experience.

Who's classy now??

Work / Customs in workplace in Poland [11]

The first points are accurate. I've noticed that there is extremism, either very loud and talking over one another or quiet and shutting others out. It's a race to get the message out half the time. Listening to old people talk is comical too, two simultaneous dialogues. One is talking about how bad her back is and the other is talking about the weather, both looking in the general direction of the other but not paying attention.

The communal door downstairs has been wrecked due to mindless slamming. They have wrenched the handle almost off its hinges too. Monkeys! Very boorish at times!

I am preparing a HR assignment about the expats in Poland. Can anyone please help me about the working conditions and protocols and hierarchy at the work place.

No, we don't do work assignments. Sorry. Look up Geert Hofstede and the country rankings for Poland and that will be good start for you.

UK, Ireland / How can I receive child support from a Polish man living in UK? [33]

Yeah, sting him for all you can get. He probably just sends money back home anyway so he will likely have a Polish account. He might just be extracting money in the misguided belief that he can make sth of himself here. Wake him up and get him to pay his dues. I've seen much more stinginess here than I ever saw in Scotland and I lived in Scotland for 24 years, here not even 5.

There is a maxim, ignorantia iura neminem excusat, ignorance of the law excuses no one. Let him pay for his ignorance and selfishness. The welfare of the child is paramount and too many take a cavalier attitude to that. Don't be too honest either about your alternative sources of income.

So, my message is give him a sharp wake-up call.

Travel / One thing i Really hate about most Restaurants in Poland! [14]

Drink before going to the restaurant. That's what I did yesterday, I got close to waterlogged before going to play Scrabble. I still needed 3X40mls of żołądkowa z spritem i z limonką though, :)

Life / Racist violence in Poland [172]

I don't believe that for a second. I mean, how could you believe anyone who taught you something that actually encourages sinning when you know, or believe, that they will be purged?? How stupid!! If I betrayed my fiancee, I'd expect the most serious of consequences, not just to nip off to church and everything would be ok after mass. It's absurd and encourages people to make a mess of things.

Not only excessive materialism is defended in our culture :( :(

Love / What is your opinion on the Polish Ladies in Krakow? [82]

You think a husband is a status symbol? Maybe for some but it's stupid to enter marriage with that thinking.

Confession was never designed to be that way but it is. This is where Catholics and Protestants differ. Penance and repentance, look them up.
