News / Poland has an old ambition to become a regional power [37]

Balts have traumatic past and it is easy to manipulate them but what is German aim in such provocations.

You mean that?

en.rian.ru/world/20080925/117109698.html

Juris Vrublevskis, the director of the Salaspils memorial camp, denied however that a monument was being built to commemorate German soldiers.

"No one is going to erect a monument to German soldiers on the territory of the former death camp," he said. "Work is currently underway near the Salaspils memorial to landscape a cemetery containing 256 German soldiers who perished after the war in a Soviet camp for German prisoners of war located in the same place."

What provocation?

I hoped that I am going to live in calm and relaxed times. I was so wrong.

What? Are you writing from a trench in some battle field???

PS: No German is hot on going to war with the Russians again after what we did to them....

News / "EU Politicians Angered By Polish Chemical Castration Plan" [45]

It would be a dangerous move and probably achieve the opposite effect to that intended.

Any links to support that?

Most instincts (in animals and humans alike) are generated and controlled by hormones, the difference being that humans have a mind to control them and not to act on them just like that.

Surgical operations can make sure to stop producing such hormones and therefore stopping the development of certain instincts in the first place, that is a medicinical fact!

News / "EU Politicians Angered By Polish Chemical Castration Plan" [45]

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wants to pass a law that would impose "chemical castration" on pedophiles. Politicians at the European Parliament in Brussels have raised their objections to the proposal, but there is little the EU can do to stop it.

Well...I'm with you in this regard!
The little ones are the most vulnerables and rely on us to protect them.

It happens in Germany that generous laws rather protect the predators than the victims, even so that condemned offenders can do it again after just barely getting a slap on the wrist for their unspeakable crimes before!

84 Percent of Poles Support Tusk's Plan

I think you would get similiar numbers in Germany...

News / Poland has an old ambition to become a regional power [37]

...The most important characteristic of the new pact is super-loyalty to Washington in foreign policy and security affairs. They see the EU as an economic club, a source of support to subsidise agriculture and infrastructure. In their eyes the common environmental and social goals of the old member states (and the left parties in the new member states) are less important than the strong cross-Atlantic ties...

It shows!

...In domestic politics they also differ from the left-liberal consensus of western Europe. Homophobic policies, mixed feelings towards Jews, strong anti-left sentiments and denial of rights to ethnic minorities are common. The only distinction is their attitude to the second world war. Poland was a victim of Nazi Germany, while the Baltic rightwingers more or less openly say that the German occupation was no worse than the Soviet rule before and after the war....

I found the comments on this article interesting too...

Georgia and Ukraine 'shouldn't join Nato'

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7623240.stm

Who started the war?

The IISS intervention shows that following the war in Georgia, a debate is growing about whether a confrontational approach to Russia is the best one.

The IISS is critical of Georgia's actions during the conflict

The IISS is highly critical of Georgian actions - in contrast to the support Georgia has received from the US and some European countries, notably Britain....

It always takes awhile but cooler heads prevail in the end..

Life / Are Polish traditions dissapearing [93]

Christian Eastern is the pagan "Ostara".

Ostara is the hypothetical Old High German name for the goddess Eostre, (Goddess of Spring). The names of the modern holidays Easter and Eastertide are thought to be derived from this goddess.

The historians say since the christians were unable to fully destroy the pagan traditions of the country folks they took them, adapted them slightly, gave them a new name and voila....

Church tax? DO they not realize this could actually draw people away from the church?

It does and no, they don't care!
Greed wins out I guess...there are still enough who pay...

In Germany making "apostasy" has the advantage of not having to pay "church tax" anymore....so there is an incentive to do the last step (and it is mostly the sole reason).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_tax

Church tax is a tax imposed on members of some religious congregations in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria and some parts of Switzerland.

Germany

About 70% of church revenues come from church tax. This is about €8.5 billion (in 2002).

Fascinating. We have the same thing here in Greater Poland. The event takes place at the evening before wedding at the brides house. It's mostly for the guests that won't be attending the wedding. People gather, smash bottles and make a lot of noise. Than they are treated with some vodka, beer or some fine nalewka and food by the hosts and party all night.

YEAH! :)

(I guess it has pagan roots too...)

"Polter Abend" is a common tradition in Germany...(it even has a german name)

germanculture.com.ua/library/weekly/aa030601a.htm

Polterabend - this is an informal (informal dress and food) party at the evening before the wedding where plates and dishes are smashed (the broken pieces are thought to bring good luck to the bride). The bride and groom have to clean up everything.

News / New Polish Euro Coins [65]

My prediction is that the Euro will die during the next five years.

Well...any support for that opinion?

Just being anti-capitalistic yourself will not scratch the global market economies much I fear...:(

PS: Are you communist??? Anarchist??? What's your alternative?

News / New Polish Euro Coins [65]

Giving up your zlotych will mean giving up a possibility to run your own land...allowing some guy in the central european bank, who doesn't even speak polish to please some corrupt politician and hungry bankers they previously bribed anyway to get rich through the debts you will be enticed to sign..

I don't see problems with TAKING Euros in Poland...lot's of Euros...no probs...:)
Imagine an island of the Zloty amidst a sea of Euro! Well..why not....

My prediction is the EURO will become the global lead currency during the next decades, displacing the Dollar.
It will be advantageous to be part of that zone, but if not you will manage too as do the countries who have no Dollar now.

Comparing them is actually a good thing cause it tells u how far Poland progressed and how little did Eastern Germany progress.

Yeah...now we get your motivation behind your downtalking of East Germany! :)
Thankfully Eastern Germany will do well further without your approval...it will be hart but we will manage...somehow...*snif*

:):):)

I actually think it went backwards.

You know what people do with unsupported opinions? Yup, they go straight away into the bin!
Say...did you actually read one of the links I provided to show you the contrary is happening? Probably not...just disturbs you image which helps to make you feel better...reality isn't good for your weak self esteem, isn't it?

To bad! :)

PS: I'm glad when the polish/german border region prospers...it's good for all of us.
I don't need a dreary Poland to feel better...but that's just me!

"One swallow"???
Are you kidding??? It's about time...
Western Germany wasn't rebuild in the first five years after the war....eastern Germany needed time too...now the motor is running! :)

But mope all you want, who cares! :):):)

expatica.com/de/life_in/feature/economic-promise-emerges-in-eastern-germany-46346.html

Economic promise emerges in eastern Germany

Eighteen years after a popular uprising swept away the Berlin Wall, the long-promised flourishing landscapes of Germany's former communist east are finally showing signs of taking shape.

Wirtschaftswunder II :)

That tells u something.

What should it tell me?

Bavaria/Munich is the most prospering region in Germany but I never once were to Munich and I don't plan to...does this mean Munich sucks???

Ive been to Dresden and Leipzig a few times and the prospects are bleak.

Well if you describe this jewel of a city, an UNESCO world heritage site, as "bleak" then I can't help you, sorry...nobody can!

Eastern German Economy Catching Up

The news continues to improve for the economy of eastern Germany. Not only will growth be higher in the east than in the west, but eastern states have some of the most dynamic economies in the country.

News / Poland's Future Includes Fewer Poles, More Foreigners [324]

Those countries are actually quite happy about people leaving them to search for better life in the west.
I know the gov of Mexico is glad about their misfits looking dreamily into the wonderland USA and risking everything to get there.

Imagine a boiling pot...boiling from poverty, injustice, corruption, violence, hopelessness....imagine this pot without an outlet. Without an outlet which gives those poor, desperate people the hope to make for a better life abroad...these people would have to change things at home actually...the pot would explode, things would have to change!

But these third world boiling pots have an outlet...the rich west...and this way steam can be let out and nothing has to change.

Those corrupt govs like it that way!

But that would be contradictionary to the SS-Satanists ruling the country (what Sobbi always states)...
Anarchists being the majority of our society? I wonder why the trains are on time still...:)
