News / Countries in Europe where abortion is allowed/not allowed? [110]

Tele,

They might worry that if they get pregnant by mistake there is nothing they can do about it.
Also, given the law, it would be very difficult to get a termination.

Plus Polish men are the same as any other men. If they don't want to admit responsibility, they won't.

News / Hurricane Warning Issued For Poland [17]

I've just been out with the dog. You wouldn't think we had a storm. All is peaceful and calm. Just a few roof tiles on the pavements/sidewalks.

News / Hurricane Warning Issued For Poland [17]

I've been off-line because of the storm. We've just got our power back. The house opposite lost some roof tiles and a shop sign got blown down the street. Those who were outside were walking at a 45 degree angle. Heavy rain and high wind, but we have had worse. What we got wasn't a hurricane but it was bad enough.

I'd like to hear from other people in Poland.

Language / "like" problem [29]

it's not childish, why you think so?

You asked for a native speakers opinion. That's my opinion.

I like grandma, I like my dog, I like you, are the sort of phrases a child would use.

I like you, from an adult to another adult, can lead to a misunderstanding and hope of something more on the part of the reciever. This has been explained.

One of the problems with English language is: Not what you say, but how you say it.

I can say: 'I love you', and the other person will know that I'm just being nice.

If a foreigner says it it might not come out the right way.

Language / "like" problem [29]

I wouldn't say I like you. It seems a childish thing to say. I would say something like: I enjoy your company, You're great fun to be with.

Real Estate / Where can i buy a cheap house or a flat in Poland? [43]

The cheapest option would be a house in the country, as 'hello' has already mentioned. But if it comes with land you'll have problems.

A cheap house becomes an expensive house if you want to do it up.
Go for a medium priced property. At least you can live in it from the get go.
Size is important. Measure the floor space in square metres, and count total number of rooms. A bedroom counts as a room.

So, what are you after in terms of size ?

Love / Women around the globe [37]

I ask myself a question why on earth can't men and women of the same nationality find these attributes in each other.

I've just had a little think about this. I don't know any mixed English/Polish couples. I know there are mixed couples in Wroclaw, but not among my friends.

Whatever is happening is wishful thinking or it's all going on in the UK.

I've also found that most people I know or have met, travel to and work in the UK as a couple. These people are usually more mature and have work to go to.

The negative opinions on here don't seem to be based on anything. They are from young people with no real thoughts of their own.

UK, Ireland / UK theory part of driving test in Polish language? [23]

A,

Learners practice on a special course. Reversing, parking etc, and then they go out on the road for practice in traffic. They must do about thirty hours on normal roads.

UK, Ireland / UK theory part of driving test in Polish language? [23]

A,

It's not like in the UK. You can't learn in your mates car and use L plates. All driving before the test is with an instructor and you must do a minimum number of hours.

My friend is complaining it is very hard, long expensive along with going to court... Is that true?

It is difficult and it can take a long time. A long time being six months. I'm told that foreign folk have to pass some sort of Polish exam. As for going to court, I don't know.

Frank,

I'm sure you would have enjoyed it. It was relaxed conversation with a couple of beers.
And yes, it would have been nice to see you there. I'd love to see all of us together for an evening out.
Mrs W sends her love.

The meeting went very well. It was a little difficult at first because we didn't have seats. It's not easy to have a conversation with everyone stood in a line at the bar. Anyway, after ten minutes or so we found a table and the words began to flow. I didn't notice any pauses in the conversation. Each of us had something new to say and it was nice to learn from other people's experiences.

Love / Matrix says that POLISH GIRLS= NOTHNIG SPECIAL [279]

A name day is a Saint's day.

If your name is James, Look for Saint James' official day. That is your name day and it's party time. You might find more than one St James, so pick the one which suits you best.

Travel / Gonna go on mission to Poland! [18]

Whenever I say anything negative about Wroclaw it is always about communications.
Yesterday I spent two hours getting from one side of the Olympic Stadium to the other.
There is always one road or another under repair and most people here are fed up with it. But at the same time they are used to it.

Because we have so many bridges here It is impossible to go anywhere without crossing one. So the city in its infinite wisdom decided to close the two main ones or restrict traffic flow.

The reason: Wroclaw is using its quota of EU and government funds to put the city on the right track.

Another problem is the number of new buildings going up. New buildings cause roads to be closed. Very often these roads are important routes.

The most annoying problem for me is that journey times vary so much. The same jorney can take 10, 60, 40 minutes depending on I don't know what.

As Frank suggests it is all for our common future. Slow now means fast later.

But it is taking too long. The by-pass was started twenty-five years ago, so now, because the city has grown, part of it is in the city limits.

Other problems are narrow streets, which restrict the use of bus lanes.

To sum up. It's sometimes quicker to walk.

Rant over.

Life / Internet providers in poland [11]

Sorry, got confused.

Go with Neostrada. That's what I'm actually using now. They offer different packages, so choose carefully.
