Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

I hadn't intended to make thigns more confusign - it's difficult enough as it is tryign to learn the Polish lagnuage.

Repeatign it out loud is a good start, but I find that actually usign a word is the best way to learn it.
It's not so much the actual words I find difficult - it's the grammar. Again, finding ways to use these different forms helps.

You need someone around who speaks Polish to be able to make this work though.

Language / Learnign Polish...any tips!? [33]

I've got a tip - for Admin or the Moderators - change the word 'Learnign' into something resembling a word you can find in the dictionary.

Sorry, Summer. I'm sure it was just a slip of the figners - it happens to us all.

Life / Trance music (which i love!) seems pretty big in Poland??... [67]

The records that I always thought were techno, I have been told by a Pole, are not really techno.
He says: 'This is techno...'
Cue Disco Polo Hell!

Sorry Carl Cox. Sorry Underworld. Sorry Slam. Sorry 808 State. Sorry DJ Hell, Dave Angel and Derrick May.
You have now been replaced.

Love / Polish men with Scottish Girlfriends [66]

rather than get drunk with his mates

They probably say he's become boring.
I'd rather be boring than bored though.

I don't profess to be a connoseur myself tho

Me neither, but it does have to be single malt and above a certain price.

Love / I'm daying a Polish Guy and I wanna know... [55]

What is the point of you making mistakes?

Most mistakes are not done on purpose. There is no point to making mistakes.
Just thought I'd help you.

Love / I'm daying a Polish Guy and I wanna know... [55]

This is not so.

it is true. For years I would try and write in English and would use Russian letters. It is a well known fact that children from foreign families have a big disadvantage in school

You're basing this opinion solely on your own experience.
You're not exactly typical are you.

Travel / I'm off to Gdansk at the end of January [24]

Im not up on this blogging business

Blog? Blog? I've never blogged in my life!
I don't even know what a blog is.
I do enjoy writing, although I've never considered myself to be particularly good at it.

When I'm at a computer, I just have an unstoppable urge to type.
When there's no computer - I talk. Quite a lot.

ask away and ill reply with a detailed answer

Describe where, when and how you had your first meal in Poland.
Make sure you describe the car park (if there was one), furniture and decor.
Was there a really nice waittress? Were there two really nice waittresses?

UK, Ireland / Polish workers in the UK - how do you save and how much do you send home? [5]

there have been some unusual stories in the press about Polish builders using a public toilet to catch a few hours kip before shifts

There was a thread about that on here - I unpicked it like an old bootlace and showed it for the waste of print that it was.

So, do you want me to make something else up? I had quite an imagination, but I do prefer truth as it's usually more interesting than fiction, so ignore part 2 of my post. The first thing I posted is almost true - actually in 5 months he's only bought 3 new phones.

edit: I renovated an old mole burrow in my back garden. One of them has to pedal an exercise bike to provide heat and electricity whilst the others mine coal, clean my boots for me...

UK, Ireland / Polish workers in the UK - how do you save and how much do you send home? [5]

My flatmate, who is Polish, gets by by living in low cost squalid conditions (my flat) which helps slightly with more mortgage (or my expensive cheese habit). He only works one job. He sends nothing home, buys a new phone every month, computer stuff, gym equipment, and generally has quite an easy life. Tha b******!

Is that the kind of thing you were after, or...

There are ten of them living in my basement, working every hour of the day and night, sending most of their hard-earnt wages back to Poland where they are all saving up to buy a new part for their old tractor.

Language / The only polish word a foreigner won't ever say correctly :P [113]

Are there any consonant clusters in English that Polish speakers have difficulty with?
I ask that assuming the answer to be found in words like 'Twelfths'.

There may be other languages that would pose a Pole a problem or two.
In Georgian, allegedly, there can be as many as 6 consonants in a row without a single vowel sound to break it up and make it any easier.

It is not accurate

But the Kurds are not Turkic, so what should that figure look like?

Genealogy / For all you blue-eyed Poles [64]

I once saw a figure suggesting about 11% Turkic origin in the population of Turkey.

some people here want to make racist and stupid comments whenever they hear the word "Turkey".

The first comment I usually want to make is one about preferring Guinea Fowl or Pheasant.
But I do tend to be flippant like that.

PS: Turks and Arabs don't look like Europeans

Europe was a concept invented by the Greeks.
Can you tell the average Greek apart from the average Turk?

Valentines messages ideas - English guys with Polish girls

No wonder he only made one post.

None of the posts here include any Polish.
I know there are some Polish girls who would understand English,
but there are others for whom you might as well send a poem written in Swahili.

don't expect any Valentins this year I must say

How good's your Swahili?

The hooves make a good percussion instrument - a good substitute for coconut shell halves.

But singing in Polish? I'll just have to sort out some words that aren't either offensive, incredibly simple, or simple commands you might hear from a plant-nursery supervisor. All of which would be grammatically wrong!

* sound of hoof on strings *
Dawaj to dzrewo. Nie - to drzewo jest inne.
Dzień dobry. Jak się masz?
Ja pierdole!
* song finishes to stunned silence *

Or I could pinch some disco polo lyrics!
