Travel / Cracow over the weekend [45]

OK mate, I stand corrected :)
Have you Polish ancestry by any chance?

None at all, but my grandfather was born in the Ukraine.

sometimes my Polish is like a five year old; however, I communicate and that's the most important thing I find :)

Mine as well, but at least the efforts are appreciated and they notice that.

If you are basing your assumption of Polish peoples English on this post

Well, I'm not Polish, but I have been there numerous times and he still needs to see for himself :)

The reason more and more young Poles speak brilliant English is because they study it in school. Polish on the other hand is fairly difficult to grasp and not many people are/were exposed to it. I don't think it's a case of being ignorant, unless of course you don't bother to learn a few words before travelling there. This is always smart ans is appreciated even if it's incorrect or you sound like a child.

Why not see a few cities? Take a train and don't limit yourself. Each city has sth cool about it.

UK, Ireland / Polish homeless in the UK [42]

This is common in places where immigrants go to work. Things don't always pan out.

Food / Polish summer soup [8]

Here's one for zupa jagodowa (Vegan, but you can replace sugar/cream if you want)

1 pound fresh strawberries or blueberries, cleaned well
11/4 cups water
3 Tablespoons vegan granulated sweetener
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup soy or rice coffee creamer or vanilla
soy or rice ice cream
Optional: 2 cups cooked, cooled noodles

Place fruit in a medium pot, add water and bring to a quick boil. Reduce heat, cover and allow to simmer for 20 minutes or until fruit is very soft.Place in blender and purée. Return purée to pot, add sugar, lemon juice and cream or ice cream. Stir and allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Chill soup for at least 2 hours before serving. It is traditional to eat this soup on its own or served over cold noodles.

Smacznego!

Actually it`s a pink soup

This is chłodnik:

Food / Polish summer soup [8]

It's just summer Barszcz

Chłodnik

300 gr peeled beetroots
500 ml water
1 vegetable stock cube
5 radishes
2 red spring onions
2 tbsp chives
1 tbsp parsley
juice from 0.5 lemon
350 ml Kefir (or natural yoghurt)
50 ml sourcream
salt
pepper

Grate the beetroots and cook them in 5 deciliters of water, a stock cube and pepper. Cook until the beets are soft. Put aside the beets and the water, let cool, then transfer to the fridge to cool completely.

Chop the radishes, chives, onions and parsley. When the beetroots together with the beetroot water are cold, add the vegetables, lemon juice, sourcream and kefir. Salt and pepper the soup. Put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Serve the cold soup with boiled eggs.

Or you can make a cold fruit soup.

UK, Ireland / Polish workers found hung in Herefordshire [51]

paranoid about what?

this as an excuse to have a go at the murderous English

lets blame the english

I was simply saying that foul play shouldn't / couldn't be ruled out within a day or two. You just like to troll for an arguement. So, I agreed. We'll leave it at that.

Ok paranoid. That's exactly what I was getting at. You're so right.

Feel better?

HAs everyone else been looking at a different article? I don't see where it says that they committed suicide except "police are not looking for anyone else in connection with these deaths..." which means nothing. It's only been a couple of days, so I can't see how homicide can be ruled out so fast.

If they were hung (which I also don't see) , how can you know they haven't been lynched or sth. Yeah, can be an extreme way to think, but who knows the truth?

USA, Canada / US wants Poles to visit, spend lots of money :) [28]

Shame about the USA's failure to include Poland in the Visa Waiver Programme.

It is a shame, I agree. Unfortunately, I don't have enough clout to resolve. I hope to see a change for the better soon.

Right now, I'm happy for the fact that my GF was given a 10 yr. visa. I hope it can be easy for everyone who tries. It's 1 positive step towards this working.

It's maybe a shame, but Zgubiony is a great Amercan friend. God bless Yanks like him.

Cheers to you Puzz :)

I'll go to Canada

Canada is cool. You wouldn't be disappointed there either. Sorry about the Visa issue. What's the hold up?

USA, Canada / US wants Poles to visit, spend lots of money :) [28]

My post was placed here to start a discussion about what the attiutude of your average immigrant/migrant is.

It was merely to invite the shopaholics of Poland to the US because we're hard up for greenbacks ;) I just found it to be a funny article.

USA, Canada / US wants Poles to visit, spend lots of money :) [28]

Time to shop until you drop across the Atlantic, the U.S. embassy says. In an unusual appeal, the United States is enticing Poles to visit and spend money this summer in hopes of propping up its faltering economy. The campaign comes as the Polish currency hit a historic high _ reaching 2.1194 zloty to the dollar on Monday.

"The zloty is particularly strong and it's a good time to travel to the States,"

......if you can get here ;)

I really like potatoes, do you think that's because I have Irish DNA?

I believe they can trace your DNA back to specific regions in Europe

USA, Canada / I might be moving to Florida.... [36]

Yankees: Lots of folks move from the North to Florida and then go around telling people how they did things 'back North'. Locals hate them

Of course, they're all old and drive slow :) They were probably saying how the food in (besides fresh seafood) FL is horrible. 1 tip...... Never eat pizza in FL.

Other than bad food, old people and hurricanes; It's a fine place to live :)
