Life / Holiday's in Poland! Not allowed thanksgiving off. [30]

Back to my original question... what does his contract state? Was he looking to get an extra day off, in addition to his regular holiday allowance? Was he being arrogant in an "I'm an American, give me a day off on Thanksgiving" kind of way?

Life / Holiday's in Poland! Not allowed thanksgiving off. [30]

He was extremely angry that I would ask for an American holiday off, since no 1 here in Poland cares about them!

I think that you've got the wrong end of the stick... he probaby doesn't agree with you demanding a day off that is not relevant in Poland. What does your contract state?

News / World's Next Great Cities - Forbes. Warsaw 8. [22]

Numbers 1,2,6 and 10 are huge Chinese cities...have any of you been to China? The quality of life there is horrible.

Yes, I have. To be honest, Shanghai is both the cleanest and the dirtiest place that I have ever visited. If we take public toilets as an example, there were some that were do modern that I didn't even need to touch the doors because they were mtion sensitive (I'm sure there's a gag in there somewhere LOL!!) and I could have eaten my dinner off the floor... then there were some that I feel quite queasey just thinking about.

Language / What do you find difficult about learning Polish? [98]

Life / What do people think of Italian Products? [37]

Do you work for them?, that would explain your knowledge in an 'o-ring things', not normally known for a woman :)

worked "in the industry" many, many moons ago....

I was reading an article about Lodz in Discover Poland magazine:

General engineering also has a pretty good reputation too... but then again, I'm not Polish, so I not sure if the OP is canvassing my opinion. I understand that the 80% of the world's O-ring seals (you know those little rubber rings that you get when you take your shower to pieces) are manufactured in Bergamo, Italy.

And agree re fashion - in particular, Emilio Pucci... iconic designs <swoon>

Travel / New Year's in Krakow [22]

Most of our young people just fall around the streets getting drunk and end up in hospital.

That's a bit harsh. I've had some brill NYE's in the UK.

Life / Cosmetics in Poland [14]

There seem to be quite a few Sephora's around Poland. And Douglas too.

While Sephora does exist in the UK, I don't think that I've ever seen one in London .

Life / Cosmetics in Poland [14]

I love Superdrug... it always amazes me how I just pop in to pick up some hair elastics and I end up coming out with things like foot-files and glittery nail polish LOL!

high stepping and slinging my leg over the bath whilst naked wasn't the most dignified moment in my life ;-)

Awww... all part of the fun. You should have seen me dressed up like a 70s tennis star when I had a kriotherapy session a few weeks ago :D

Really? Have you been in Boots / Selfridges of late?

I'm never out of Selfridges....

I was thinking more along the lines of day-to-day stuff that you'd pick up in a regular drugstore. Was comparing with what you'd find in somewhere like Superdrug.

Spa treatments I havent tried in Poland

Get yourself out there, my girl!.... I usually try to get an afternoon (at least) at various spas whenever I'm in Poland. Have had all kinds of brilliant mud-baths and facials as well as anti-cellulite massages (which are fab until I go and drink my own body-weight in Polish beer and stuff myself silly with roast duck LOL!!)

are tanning beds or spray tans becoming more popular in Poland?

Surely anyone who cared about their skin would steer well clear of tanning beds?

have you ever been in Poland?

That was what I was wondering... I find that the range of skincare products and salon / spa treatments is far better in Poland than in the UK.

Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

Welcome to PF - sorry to hear that you're having a tough time.

How old are you both? If he's say, late teens / early twenties then the chances are that he's just not mature enough - and you'll have a certain novelty factor - mature, experienced lady from another country with her own property. He might see you as somebody who is cool and fun for a couple of years before he does the typical thing of settling down with the girl next door.

UK, Ireland / British celebs that are bigger in Poland than in Britain [49]

Some of my friends might still be vaguely interested in them, though I think that it's fair to say that they're not big here any more. Don't they have a massive following in North Germany? I remember going to some random village in Schleswig Holstein and being told that this was where NME played their first ever German gig.

I am fascinated by Kevin - and I'll be keeping an eye on him... but back to my original question. No chance that Jeff Lynne has become fluent in Poland and plays secret gigs to locals in Pomorskie, then?

Food / Popular drink shots in Poland? [28]

Kameekazees (or however they're spellt) are popular. No idea what's in them, but they're not really all that strong.

Wow - this guy is really cool!! I can't stop watching him.

What I had in mind with the original question however was somebody who people in the UK might have heard of before.

McCoy

I love this guy.... :D

He's become a complete celeb based on being a Brit.

Life / Do we have TV in Poland? [38]

I know plenty of educated people who have never visited Poland - they are always asking whether my friends in Poland beg me to take them to MacDonalds <sigh>

"so you are moving to the land of the midnight sun then".
I had another guy telling me that Poland was a country of ice and snow, it goes on and on.

Sounds like they are confusing Poland with Scandinavia.

Travel / ŁÓDZ..is it worth a visit? [25]

Not been, but from what I heard, it's had a very interesting history.

Re hotels - try Hotel Focus hotelfocus.com.pl I stayed in their place in Szczecin a few weeks ago and couldn't fault it. Free internet connection and water-coolers on the corridor - handy after a few pints of Bosman;).
