Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

There is an element of time that eventually wears you out.

No there shouldn't be. If you are playing games with someone, as I see this guy may have been, then yes it eventually wore out. But love/marriage is a one time only deal. You are to stick with it, not run when the tough times come. He showed his immaturity, disrespect and dishonesty.

Life / Where to watch US election in Krakow? [17]

Calm reasoned sound logic

Well not everyone is a dickface, and some people here know manners and how to hold themselves on a public forum. If you agree with how he handles himself, you are just like him.

Life / Where to watch US election in Krakow? [17]

No 'we are the world" nonsense here. I live in the US amongst blacks and whites. You can vote for whomever you please, but why do you come on here to attack someone because of their choice. Everyone has the freedom of choosing who they want, and just because you don't agree, doesnt give you the right to call out racism. Perhaps you should look up the definition of the word.

Life / Who drinks more: Poles or Russians? [50]

I think Russians drink more. The average Polish guy goes to work during the day. The average Russian guy drinks a bottle on a bench. (and no, I'm not talking about homeless people)

Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

Besides I am sure he will have to propose to her soon if he wants to keep her.

Perhaps this may be a reason he asked the British lady to "not make any problems".

If this were me, I'd throw a fit and let everyone know about the situation. Especially his family & the 20yr old. Go out with a bang!

Polish girls are not that desperate... they are waiting a little longer to marry now. Those that seek proposal & marriage quickly are the less independent ones... and the ones that seek a man to be financial stable to hold a family. This 33 yr old lives at home, and already has a kid to support. What can he offer this 20yr old, besides maybe paying her cell bill and making the same promises he made to the British lady?

Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

It seems that he was in love, when the situation seemed better. He liked the idea of an older sophistocated woman, with her own place, an independent woman... while he was a momma's boy living at home. Unfortunately, it seems you were his "escape", when he wanted sex, when he wanted to stay there for a couple days. I'm sorry to say, but he treated you more like a toy, and now that he sees you having health problems, he doesnt want to deal with it.

If you were together long enough that you moved to Gdynia for him, and he's keeping you a secret from his family all this time... that should have told you something was wrong right there.

I agree with everyone else, drop him (do some evil things to him first, lol). He's not worth your time and heart. Let the 20-something girl screw him over. No normal 20 year old wants a 33 year old divorced guy with a daughter more than half her age... unless the goal is to share clothes.

Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

still find it hard to believe all this....

Talk to a local Pole, and they will confirm the stories about Biedronka workers wearing diapers, it was on the news a while ago. This is not some urban legend made up. When they stopped paying for overtime, and made people work for free, and on this un-paid time, they couldnt even take a 15 min break to use the facilities, people made the news. Yes some sued, most could not afford lawyers. The people that work at a Biedronka are usually desperate for a job, otherwise they wouldnt be there. 600-900zl they make there is better than sitting at home and making 0zl.

News / how to use SMS to send message to cell phone in poland [30]

If it is Orange, then you can do it directly from their site. Others sometimes say "message sent" when in fact it doesn't go through.

sms.orange.pl

I think its self explanatory once you look at it.

Life / COFFIN PHOTOS FROM POLAND? [11]

I dont think its as practiced as it was in the past. I think mostly stopping in the 80s. I do have pics of both of my grandparents in coffins... that died in the 80s. For the ones that passed later on, I dont, so I think the "norms" are changing.

Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

going to the toilet is a big problem too, because as you know Biedronka is a very popular store and always busy, and the clients tend not to be forgiving if they have to wait 5 seconds, not mentioning 3 minutes... she says it's hell

I heard about this too. I actually heard that the cashiers are not allowed to leave their post once they get there in the morning, so some are forced to wear diapers to make it through the day.

I'm surprised the people that shop there, usually the poorer folk, are so impatient & demanding. Maybe they feel they are "better" than the people working there, and act the way they do.

Personally, I wouldn't shop there just for this reason. I dont need to save 10zl, to make another adult stand in a diaper for 10-12 hour shifts.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

They also complain about the lack of coloured people in Poland.

Poles? Most likely not those returning from the US. Those in the US, and after a 20 tenure are rather racist, and are happy to be home among their white friends.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

Most of the people I know that have left the US to go back to PL forever, have left to treat Poland as the "retirement land", not necessarily to go work there.

After 20 years in Canada & the US, you should be "set" financial, do you HAVE to work, or want to?

Also, those who have returned have complained terribly about the healthcare in Poland. The waiting, the care, the attitudes.

News / Polish economy, the US Dollar, the PLN and the Polish real estate bubble. [25]

Thank you. The PLN is now 3.10 today against the dollar. It fell back to 3.02 but it will only get worse as oil falls. Thank God. I am pleased.

What is with you, you say you like Poland & Poles, but really I think you are jealous of their success, and now the devaluation of the PLN is getting you all high. Calm down.

Genealogy / How to change my Americanized last name to my real (Polish) last name? [23]

If you know your great grandparents names, there are forums that have listings of everyone that entered via Ellis Island. Is this where your family entered?

Unfortunately, Poland does not have their records online, even if it did, it wouldn't have it that far back. Maybe part of your exploration, can involve a trip to PL.

It seems real odd that no one mentioned the Polish roots until a casual conversation with the uncle. I mean, wouldn't they have spoken it, someone (your parents) would have knowledge of their history too?

Genealogy / How to change my Americanized last name to my real (Polish) last name? [23]

I wonder why your family did that?.

When Poles came over back in the day to Ellis Island, a lot of them changed their names, "Americanized" them, shortened them. There were stories of the discrimination they faced with typical Polish last names, and your family may have switched to prevent this.

I would definitely find out what the real last name was, and verify by some documents before you go changing it on just what your uncle said.
