Language / The difference between i and a ? [15]

I once heard someone (who missed out on a shot of wódka) saying: "i Ja!?!" but then today I notice on somebody's gadu gadu status the use of "a Ja!" so I am trying to see some kind of difference

"i Ja" was more of "me too!" - include me.

"a Ja!" more of a turning attention to yourself...like what about me! It could also be used at the time of the missed drink, but it would sound somewhat accusatory, how dare you leave me out! (especially with an exclamation mark).

"a Ja?" is the same, but just a question. You expect some kind of input about you.
You look good wearing hats, a ja?

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

Most liberals want to be "nice" and preach variety, but ...not in their back yard. Oh, no. It's fine if the minorities are in yours and how dare you think they should not be there!

Food / What is your favourite Polish meal?! [64]

Chicken curry and rice

lol. a new polish dish?

olive oil on the pierogi but I am sure that I will just revert back to having melted butter

Good choice Lir, pierogi loves butter and butter loves pierogi. I tried to make scrambled eggs using olive oil...ok, not the same. Gotta have butter or bacon. :)

We are so scared of good, whole foods on behalf some "no fat' processed garbage. Thanks...marketing.
I don't let commercials make food choices for me. There is nothing better than good, real food and moderations is the key.

Travel / Back from Krakow an kielce [30]

Thank You McCoy for the beautiful pictures and memories! Now I really want to go there on on my next visit...look up some old friends and coworkers. Deptak Sienkiewicza looks impressive comparing to the picture I still have in my mind. All buildings so refreshed, painted, clean. Awww.

Travel / Back from Krakow an kielce [30]

Make sure you take a trip with your girl to "£ysa Góra" next time. Not really a mountain, but plenty of beautiful views and an excellent hiking exercises!

I'm glad you consider staying in Kielce for a couple of years. I hear, Kielce had changed a lot from the sleepy town it was way back when...and it is pretty hip now.

Some day, time permits, I want to visit my good "old" places I left behind. I'm sure I will not recognize most of them...

USA, Canada / Polish Vodkas for American Pub [49]

And were PF friendly:)

Now we know when PF members meet next time.

pgtx is right about the "parapetówa" taking place when you buy a new house or apartement...not quite furnished yet, no place to sit... all the drinks and food are barely hanging on a "window's ledge" ... :) hence the name.

Love / Younger foreign man dating older polish women ? [28]

I know, I'm very busy too. Sometimes I peek in, but don't hang out.
I chime in when when something catches my eye, like this dating older polish women (read:marrying for a EU card) because that's what it really is.

Life / What do you do for fun in poland? [15]

forgot to include horse riding among my fun things to do

Ferrari dino

A pretty cool mechanical horse, but nothing beats the real one. :)

I have not been riding a horse for ever, since a little girl I guess. I loved it then.
Oh, I'm so jealous. I should try it this spring.

News / Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways? [73]

Ford didn't need a bailout either.

They take the money because they can. I think they should survive without the bailout. Their products are pretty good now, the times when FORD stood for 'fix or repair daily' are gone. The CEOs don't need a couple of mils in bonuses, they make enough.

Our CEOs said they did not take any this year, if I believe them (they did not give us any either), but that's OK...

some countries are going to be stronger and some are going to be weaker.

This will ALWAYS be the case. No matter, if it it is now, two hundred years ago or two hundreds years from now. America will survive, Europe will survive and todays 'crisis' will be in the history books, just like many other crisis examples before.

Actually, I think this is good for the world. We took everything for granted and the rest of the world fed from our limitless spending. Maybe it is time to slow down a little and regroup. Then, start allover again... :)

Consumer Reports gave it highest marks for reliability

Yes, I'm a Consumer Reports subscriber and I know they give it high marks. Most of high ticket price items I buy is based on their report - from a hair dryer to a car. I love my Ford Focus! :)

I'm not thinking about buying a foreign car, anyway I don't seem to like any of them. Honda - excellent mileage and reliability, but no fun to drive at all. Boring.

It's 6F now where I live and we're "promised" around 30F tomorrow! Yeah! Long overdue global warming breeze... :) it used to be normal temperature this time of year for the last couple of decades or so.

and my life is good :).

So is mine and I work for a bank. Thank you. :)

Shawn, we'll invade you when we're really pressed for oil. OK? :)

If you prefer to buy more oil from foreign countries

yeah, we do - it's cheaper at this time. When we exhaust it, we'll have ours (and from "invaded' Canada or Mexico), we'll not sell it cheap. No, Sir.Hehehehe.

I drive a Pontiac Vibe

I love that car, especially the older ones. The new ones do not look so hot...I'm disappointed in the mileage though. One of my coworkers drives it and she said it was great on milage..but 24 mpg does not sound too impressive. I was thinking of buying it, but maybe not...

Back on topic. Winters in Poland seem to be milder now and we have them brutal. It will change in a couple of years. The Europe will freeze and we'll go back to mild winters. Normal throughout centuries.

Life / What do you do for fun in poland? [15]

It sounds great wildrover...take it easy on the plane however. My friend's son ( a college kid) 'dropped' from the skies in in Cessna last August, his partner did not survive, he is crippled for life, only 20 years old...very sad.

The smaller cars do not work well in a foot of snow, you know. Yes, you guys pay too much for gas in Poland, but have you ever wonder why? It's not because there are three Hummers on the road...

USA, Canada / Good job for Polish in USA [34]

True. The job market is not too good. Another year or so and people will come out of their caves and start shopping. It's time to wake up the economy. See my dear whole WORLD what happens when America stops shopping (consuming)?

Gosh, I miss the squeaky sound of hangers moved on the racks by bored housevives... :)
