History / What does it mean to be Polish? [46]

yep. my oldest isnt interested in anything right now, only that her heritage leads
to polish, but youngest, wants to learn it, she is the curious child, so, quite possibly
if these polish classes are at night (at reasonable hour) I might take her along with me
to learn. :)

History / Poland During Russian Rule [7]

Sorry. I'm just upset and worried about my baby.

Krysia, I understand completely , no need to explain.
I just had mine get in the tub, and cooled her down, shes not throwin up
just a high fever, in the next few hours , if it goes back up that high, were
heading out, I know this is a battle I wont win, she needs antibiotics.

I hope your 3 year old feels better, something must be going around. I asked her
if there was any kids sick at school ,she said no, so it could have been from anywhere.

another sleepless night.

well, shes still with the fever, and tomorrow I think we will go to her drs.
I think its the flu. hopefully not, but her temp was very high last night, put her
in the tub twice to get the fever down.

so far she is perky. and eating. p

I am worried a bit cause the Metabolic Disorder I was posting about in other thread

I just hope she can beat this fever or we are going in.

I know russian. You can send them to me.

Krysia, if you dont hear from me tomorrow, or next day or two, I will send
them, my youngest is pretty sick tonight, not sure if I will be home in next few
hours, hopeful we dont have to go any further then the local hospital.

Thanks for offering, I will get in touch with you soon as we get better .

History / Poland During Russian Rule [7]

Krysia, that is sad, we forget how hard they had it, I try to remind my two that times
now are so much better then when my parents were growing up and their parents
twice as hard. yet they made it.

If you would :) translate those, they are in the old Russian, I was able to learn
how to read the month and date, "somewhat an accomplishment " lol

it was difficult because the sentences/words all run together to me.

I will send them tomorrow, my Daughter has a fever tonight, so I am keeping eye
on her for now.

But thank you so much, I will get these out to you :) big hugs :)

History / Poland During Russian Rule [7]

I had recieved some old -very old copies of documents Baptismals, marriages etc
from the church where my grandfather came, I still have some left that need
translating, (not to many). anyone read Russian? Plus, I have three old , very old
Polish ones, they are partially translated, but not all the way, some have Question
marks, I had a friend at work "gosia" do them for me but she said she couldnt read
it all, anyone here, or know someone whos seen the older baptismals , marriages
that would be able to read it?

I would scan them, and send via email.

PLus, anyone have any stories from their family from way back , I find these to be
the most interesting, helps me to understand better What they went thru.
Polish = Courage, preservance, good souls. Just my feelings.

History / What does it mean to be Polish? [46]

There is no commonly accepted definition of the Poles. According to the preamble of the Constitution of Poland, the Polish Nation consists of all citizens of Poland.

Excellent info, Thanks, by the way, I consider myself Polish, but American first as this
was where I was born. all Grandparents and parents minus 25% if that is all polish.
Cities they lived were Nowogrod K Lomza, and Osiek K Oswiecim, and Polanka Wielka,
Again near Oswiecim, and last was Kolno.

I dont think there are conditions, yes if you live there you are Polish citizen, but
like when Poles come to America, they still say I am Polish, even if they came 5 years
ago, or 100 years ago. the nationality dont change, only the citizenship. most
still Practice their Culture here.

oops, the other 25% is the Question in another post about German (possible) heritage
but again, I dont know for sure. they lived in poland, all of them.

and if they hadnt came here, we would still be there, I would have learned more,
and know how to speak it, all grandparents died early on, and I never learned it, the
only time my parents talked polish was at christmas, so we didnt hear what we were
getting!

By the way babylon, printing that, I am wanting to learn so much, this is like the
first post which caught my attention that is really helpful for me to understand more
about Poland, its people, where it began, those Questions ran thru my mind, I had
a time on the intranet finding the right Words to get to the sites. very informative.

Thanks Really :) alot.

Yes, be proud of your roots as I am proud of mine.

I am very proud of mine, today I recieved a picture of my Great Great Aunt who
celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in 1938, and my Kuzynko Kazmier sent it
to me (they have bigger picture) and its amazing!

Life / Worrying observation about Polish attitudes to lying and cheating [62]

Depends on the Situation, I stand by my post, she was a drunk, I learned nothing
in her class, our parents pay top dollar taxes (which pays their salary) and send
us to school to learn. so while shes in the bathroom nippin the bottle, kids in the class
are going crazy , total chaos, yeah, again, I say, I stand by my post.

I probably could have turned her in, and then risk getting hurt by other kids, no thanks
i preferred catching up with the book and working on learning. that was all on my own
as this teacher was good for nothing. if I am a Cheater, then I am . no more then
anyone else.

Life / Worrying observation about Polish attitudes to lying and cheating [62]

I think that in personal life we don't cheat any more than other nations

I agree with this, as in 9th grade, i had chicken pox and was off for 3 weeks of school
math was not my favorite subject, and when I came back to school to get all my
homework, the teacher handed me by mistake the teachers handbook.

I tried to not use it as i had my own, but I had asked her to help me with understanding
the homework she gave " back then she was a drinker" so when I asked her she
looked at me dumbfounded and said just follow the directions.

so I used the book to get me thru all the answers and tried to understand it, but
still had trouble, that section of learning I did cheat, and with good reasons, no one
was helping me to learn, especially the teacher. my parents couldnt help because they
both dropped out to help their parents and work. so I was on my own, I dont feel
bad that I did that, because I was cheated from learning.

I think it depends on Why/What. every situation is different. I didnt want to get a
bad grade all because my teacher was to drunk to work with me.

But people who come from free countries which have never being occupied don't feel it in the way how we do.

your right, but as he stated on that post, and I was going to say maybe it was because
of history and how poland has been CHEATED so many times !

WOW, I was thinking that. serious!

Genealogy / Luranc/Lorans surname [17]

Just because your surname doesn't sound Polish doesn't mean that your ancestors weren’t. There were a lot of German settlers that eventually assimilated perfectly into the Polish society

yes, agree, and I am sure they are all polish, what I heard thru family stories
was GGG grandfather was military, fell in love with Polish maiden, gave up rank
horse and all, moved to poland to be with his love.

it was a story passed down, I have no proof, I dont doubt it isnt true, but would like
to further the history if I need to go in another direction and find the area they
started from. this name has had me stuck for a while.

Genealogy / Luranc/Lorans surname [17]

OK< I need some help, any help at all would be excellent, any thoughts.

Surname Luranc was or used to be Lorans something like that in poland.

This name cant be polish can it? is it German? Ukraine? French?

It is mind boggling, my Great Grandparents lived in Osiek.

could they have came from Germany to Osiek, just settled early on?
I am told it isnt Polish, but I know nothing about this name at all.

It would be easier if it had a Ski, ska, czy, etc on the end of it, but
it dont.

I am clueless, "ok no comments on that one LOL"

just cant find enough information on this name to trace much further on it.

Help??

I'm as rigid as ever.

Just don't get much opportunity to use it in this godforsaken sexless country (sorry that should probably read 'god-infested' sexless country). And I used to have a rampant sex-life before moving here! What a mistake...

what a load of crap.

it takes all kinds. ever hear of rosey palms? should hold ya over till ya move!

posesses every perfect feature, just like there is no woman alive who does.

just like there is no woman alive who does.

ooops, forgot to add, when ya take off the makeup on a model, she aint no
bread and butter.

Plastic surgery, makeup, etc etc.

and even some guys do extra to make themselfs look perfect.

not even necessary. I dont envy movie stars let me tell ya.
