Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

Books are relatively expensive in Poland but to be honest they are not so cheap in UK.

Maybe i am wrong but I think that we still mantain "good class" about books...i went to WHsmith few days ago and was close to faint...all celebrities from the last raw wrote a book....Big brother....Jordan( probabbaly 3).......how somoeone in his early 20 who took part in BB write his autobiography?:)

was it kebap?...maybe different spelling? Where do you see it, in restaurants?

now is this just the lame Polish excuse for being lazy?

maybe they didn't fancy you and didn't want ot go out with you?

I would say that English, Canadian girls would behave similar?

Or would be more rude and say it ?

UK, Ireland / 5.5m Britons 'opt to live abroad' [25]

have to say the food in Wroclaw was much nicer than in Krakow I found more restaurants that were actually Polish as a posed to Italian, Italian, Italian oh and an Italian,

I suppose because Krakow is much more touristic place. But there are nice restaurants out of centre, in small towns around.

Life / Situation of women in Poland and the society [25]

I know. In general it is easier in big towns.

I have just some single friends in Poland....I sometimes think that their social position in Poland is little different to women like them in UK.

UK, Ireland / Crime in london versus Crime in Poland. [24]

Not being funny I know all areas of London, I spent most of my life growing up there, the city is rife with crime, even the most richest areas. The rich areas are the targets for armed robberies

It is scarry. I think that few days ago there was woman killed by stranger following her home. No robbery , completely random. She was living in quite good area.

News / Will sex-scandal in Self-Defence end the coalition in Poland? [28]

Looks like we have a new Monika Lewinski. I always wonder what women like that are thinking. Were they paid to do that? Where they victims of the situation?

I guess that they are often vistims of the situation. I suppose that power - that is what really attract them.
I remmebr romance with Prescot ( home secretary) and woman working in his office. It was so sad and unpleaseant he wanted to have quick sex with her nothing more. I don't really know what she was expecting....

But these women usually end up with quite much money few interviews for tabloids, some photos.....

In Poland your neighbours know more what's going on in your and your family life than you do. So if your wife is cheating on you and you don't have a hard proof, ask your neighbours and they will confirm/deny with 100% accuracy.

In England even more.....

Amathyst not all polish people do it. I am always quite aware about my space.I don't like strangers to stand too close to me.

I think it comes from our history a bit- crisis times, nothing in the shops, queing everywhere.....i( that is why maybe people stand so close so noone will jump in front of them?) I hope this will change slowly.

I was at Tesco few weeks ago and there was young girl there who jumped in the queue in front of the older bloke ( both English)- They got both so agitated , made me little smile. This girl broke so important rule like proper queueing.....

UK, Ireland / Anti-Polish sentiment of England [253]

I read this article in daily Mail but waht was the purpose of it......o, yes, they cost so much money in NHS. But maybe shoulnd't we forget how much labour NHS already blew up on stupid projects, overpaid doctors......

These children born now in UK ( if they stay here) will be british citizens completely assimilated in next 20 years. The same happens with most european emigration.

Life / Poland: Individualist or collectivist... more Reserved? [20]

Fisz,

I don't know american culture but i think that comparing to English we polish are more reseved and more private people. before moving to Uk I thought ( maybe little sterotypical ) that English are cold , reserved.....

Firstly they are very nosey secondly n ot so good at secrets they will and tell you everything from their love details to anything private.

I would say that polish are little stubborn and rather individualists...

I remember I asked you about your roots they are quite mixed.

What nationality would you describe as yours?

Life / Situation of women in Poland and the society [25]

I was reading some threads about situation of women in Poland.

From my impression main difference relates to woman position in Society. We have in general the same rights, education, jobs.... But what I find annoying is peoples attitude to single women- ( spinster?- it is not much used word nowadays in England).

I think that in England there are many independent women ( any ages) who are single. In Poland especially in small towns, villages...is not very easy to be single.....

It is probbaly slowly changing but ....

Travel / Why is Poland so Un-Sexy? [84]

I know, I probably like balance.

I think that it is sometimes difficult to compare living in UK- "over-political correct" country and inPoland where our Gov seems to be quite intolerant.....
