FISZ 24 | 2,116 7 Dec 2006 / #1Just a bit of curiosity here......Is/Has Poland ever been considered an individualist or collectivist culture? Also, do you think people from PL are more reserved than Brits or Americans? Why?
hello 22 | 891 7 Dec 2006 / #2I would say individualist. Looking at sports, Poland has always had great individuals but when team sports, they usually suck.

iwona 12 | 542 8 Dec 2006 / #12Fisz,I don't know american culture but i think that comparing to English we polish are more reseved and more private people. before moving to Uk I thought ( maybe little sterotypical ) that English are cold , reserved.....Firstly they are very nosey secondly n ot so good at secrets they will and tell you everything from their love details to anything private.I would say that polish are little stubborn and rather individualists...I remember I asked you about your roots they are quite mixed. What nationality would you describe as yours?
Bartolome 2 | 1,085 10 Dec 2006 / #16I can speak only for myself - I'm an extreme individualist, but when it takes to work collectively, I don't mind. But in general, I think that we have such a mess in our country because of our selfishness and lack of will to work together (unlike our ancestors, when they rebuilt our land from the rubble after the I W.W.).
jolly 13 May 2009 / #20I think Bartolome is right in a way. We ( as Poles ) are getting more and more individualistic. This is one of the differences between communism and democracy, or capitalism (actually consumerism is a better word here) We use to have a common enemy in a way and that brought us all together as a nation against the state. Now, we are more and more "divided". For a lot of young people in Poland it is more and more difficult to call themselves Polish as they travel more no matter whether they want to or not ( I mean financial reasons here ) I would say that's a bigger and a more difficult topic than it seems but a good question though. Take care
