Love / Polish blonds are so beautiful [99]

Polish Brunettes

Many of my Polish ancestors were brunettes, including both males and females.
The female photos I've seen displayed their simple, yet natural beauty.

Food / Is there McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc in Poland? Food survey. [222]

Mcdonalds has a Mexican breakfast menu over here, sad but true

McDonald's menu varies according to demographics. In some South American countries their restaurants serve empanadas. In Japan, they sell teriyaki burgers.

USA, Canada / WHAT'S THE CANADIAN HEALTH SERVICE REALLY LIKE? [15]

First of all, good luck getting a family doctor! In some towns, there is a waiting list. You should hope two years is enough.

What do you do if you become gravely ill, during the two-year waiting period?

Love / Proposing to my Polish girlfriend [33]

Having many of them in your collection?

Nope, none so far bro. I have enough beautiful jewelry, that I've purchased with my own money.

extending the size can crumble these stones off..

That's why it'd better to start off with a larger size ring. Eventually the ring can be sized down to match her finger size.

A family heirloom one would be cool though, as long as it was in your family....

My sis's hubby gave her his mother's wedding ring. It's absolutely gorgeous. She adores the ring and wears it with great pride and honor. The heirloom wedding ring is truly a symbol of my brother-in-law's love to my sister.

Love / Proposing to my Polish girlfriend [33]

Come on Beckski! If the guy of your dreams got down on his knee and presented you with a slightly used ring, you would be OK with that?

Hell yeah, if the diamond is 1kt total weight+ (hehe)

People purchase used homes, cars, jewelry, etc. I'd be honored to receive a ring that was a family heirloom, as an engagement ring. Some are quite lovely. I also pointed out that pawn shops also have new, unused rings available for purchase. Of course he's not gonna go & give his fiancee a dented, scratched up engagement ring. I'm merely suggesting a way he can get more bang for his buck.

Good tip

Here's another tip. You may actually be able to buy a really nice engagement ring at a pawn shop. Purchasing the ring there, may only cost you approximately 1/2 the cost of a luxury jewelry item, as opposed to a retail jeweler. Not all the jewelry at pawn shops is used. Lots of their items are infact new. If the ring does happen to be slightly used, just give the ring a good polishing job; it'll sparkle like new!

Mine got that one:

Looks more like a promise ring. Does she need a magnifying glass to look at the diamond? Lol.

Supposedly, a nice engagement ring should cost in the range of a three-month salary.

Travel / Polish Zoos and their animals [27]

I've been to a much better zoo, but that was in San Diego so it doesn't count.

Even though it's not in Poland, it's really the mother of all zoos out here. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait to go to San Diego Zoo on field trips. In the summer months, they're now open in the evenings too.

Reverse discrimination is the name of the game in the USA

You hit the nail on the head. I feel like a member of an endangered species.

Life / The Elderly and their Psyche in Poland. [20]

But I would like to take care of my parents till the last day of their lives.

With the life span expectancy increasing in many countries, it's of utmost importance to maintain programs which are beneficial, in aiding our aging population.

One thing I've come to realize, in 50+ years our retirement homes will be filled with people sporting tats and body piercings. Hint, hint... that may include some of us folks.

UK, Ireland / Polish driver dies as car shears in half... [38]

risk that he'd smash into me or into some car full of kids

Fortunately, it sounds like no innocent bystanders sustained any injuries. M.A.D.D. (mother against drunk drivers) cracks down hard on those who drink and drive. They especially depise drunks, who are lucky enough to survive a car wreckage.

Travel / Alcohol on trains in Poland [40]

Theres nothing better than a booze train or beer bus to a football game

Or to a casino for that matter. I like watching the passengers get drunk and making fools of themselves.

Life / Wedding Reception Venues in Gdansk [17]

That's a novel idea, highly original

I agree.

At my cousin's wedding she had a chocolate fondue fountain. There were assorted fruits and marshmallows to cover with delicious toppings.

Life / The Elderly and their Psyche in Poland. [20]

What do you think of them? Have you any experience with the Old man or the Old woman in Poland?

Haven't had the opportunity to meet with the elderly in Poland so far. I do enjoy chatting with Polish people at the retirement home, located next to the Polish church in Los Angeles.

The residents enjoy telling interesting, yet sometimes sad stories, pertaining to the good old days. In turn, I love hearing them share their cherished memories of days gone by. It's great to preserve the past and learn from those, who are more experienced in life, as opposed to the majority of us.

Life / Expensive brand retail outlets in Poland - how do they survive? [19]

Nobody ever seems to buy anything it amazes me the amount of new shops opening all the time and the apparent lack of business/income.

It's the same here in the United States. I like shopping at Ontario Mills Mall. During the weekdays the mall looks virtually abandoned. I can't comprehend, how the businesses stay afloat and generate any profit. Especially when there's high overhead, including cost of goods, rent, salaries, insurance, advertising, etc.

UK, Ireland / Leaving gift for Polish guy at work [15]

Are they not banned in the US?

Nope, black Americana is a very hot collectible in the United States. I resell it quite often in my antiques business. Many of the customers who purchase these items from me, are infact black.

News / Polish Poland vs westernized Poland [6]

preserve the local atmosphere?

Wow... did Southern actually create this thread, that doesn't involve anything sexual? Pinch me, I must be dreaming! Lol.

I'm definitely one who cherishes preserving the Polish nostalgic past. Some things never go out of style. Like they say, what's old is new again.

Food / Polish-Style Chicken Soup (Rosol) [16]

it needs to "stew" for a number of hours.

Sometimes it tastes even better the second day, after it's been heated and reheated over a long period of time.

gollywog would be a good leaving gift

Hey Shelley, I saw this golliwog (gollywog) at the sewing competition section, of the LA County fair. Maybe I should copy the pattern. I think it'll look cute in my friend's man cave! He'll probably say, "What the hell is that?"
