Life / Can you think of any famous Polish personalities? [147]

Ohh come on, that's too obvious. Erich von Manstein (von Lewinski) - the co-author of the plan on invading Poland, France, etc... one of the most prominent commanders of Nazi Germany's armed forces. :)

He was Prussian not Polish

Martha Stewart was born Martha Helen Kostyra to Polish parents

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

scheming or kombinowac is not always bad. it can be good.

If you're in a fix and are trying to get out of it , kombinowac
If you're thinking about how to work something out , kombinowac
If you're up to no good, kombinowac
If you're thinking or studying, kombinowac
if something is not working out you say

kombinuje jak kon pod gore

literal translation is i am scheming like a horse going up a hill

it means your plan or scheme aren't working out.

I guess, since it is pretty hard to get a SS number,

you just use the SS number of someone who is back in Poland. it is common practice with both illegals and employers

Anyone who works for cash doesn't get taxes taken out

if someone is a illegal then that person may still get a tax number to pay income taxes. Usually the boss forces his illegal workers to get this tax number because it allows him for more worker expenses and tax deductions

Did you just make this word up? What is disposable income?

disposable income is gross pay minus taxes and deductions.

Life / How are Poles generally viewed outside Poland by other nations? [84]

Hard working Poles my ass!

As for Germans, they are top class people and a quality country!

Germany is a rich country because the West poured millions of dollars to rebuild their economy and infrastructure after WWII which was a big mistake.

USA, Canada / My personal (Polish) view on USA. [105]

The ones who can afford new cars and toys are the illegal immigrants who come to this country, work and don't pay taxes

one Polish friend of mine is a cop in Chicago and he pays taxes , yet somehow he managed to buy a realitively new Mercedes for cash. How did he do it? He used his Police salary to buy and renovate a home which he then flipped for a $200,000 profit in a year's time.

The majority of Americans are living form pay-check to pay-check trying to make ends meet. They work hard, pay for their homes, pay taxes and not everyone can afford a new car.

Most Americans live from pay-check to pay-check because they spend most of their disposable income and abuse credit cards to live beyond their means. Most Immigrants on the other hand spend less and save more. Notice that most Poles own their homes and their mortgages are paid off.

the illegal immigrants work much harder than Americans this is why they can afford to buy a new car and houses for cash. i have met many Polish illegal immigrants that run businesses, pay taxes (illegals have tax number) and own million $$$ homes.

News / Polish/German/Russian relations [304]

Germans like organization,Slavs like natural procedures.

this is very true. Germans and Austrians always were well organized. Beginning with company structure and ending with public transit most things in Germanic countries run like clock work and are organized in a logical, ordered and timely fashion. Even when you drive through Austria it is nice and clean and the streets and sidewalks of towns and villages are clean and the trains run like clock work.

USA, Canada / My personal (Polish) view on USA. [105]

I'm not materialistic. I have the bare essentials. I'm not in a rat race..for toys? I drive a golf and don't own a boat. What is your point here?

you don't matter in society. you are nothing because you are poor.

$$$ brings power and respekt

USA, Canada / My personal (Polish) view on USA. [105]

Capitalist America has created a sick environment where only wealth accumulation and consumption matter.

in the U.S.A you need to show off with $$$ , house , car and other material possesions.

everyone is in the rat race to buy the most toys , the biggest car, fastest boat, etc

it is a very selfish society where only the individual matters most

News / IS LECH KACZYNSKI DOING A GOOD JOB? [43]

the average montly salary in Poland is approx. $2700 zl

however this average is misleading as many people still make about $1500 zl

hence the median montly salary is much lower than $2700 zl

News / There is no Muslim in Poland [116]

Tatars in Poland sometimes have a Muslim surname with a Polish ending: Ryzwanowicz, Jakubowicz.

Jakubowicz (son of Jacob) is not a Muslum surname it is Hebrew

Jakub = Jacob is a hebrew name יַעֲקֹב

with Polish ending (owicz) meaning "son of"
