USA, Canada / Store with Polish Speakers in Chicago to buy suit [11]

My wife speaks Polish much better than she speaks English. She insists I need a new suit for our Green Card interview on Thursday. I don't want to argue with her. She's nervous enough. But I digress. I would like to walk into a store with her, where she can comfortably engage in conversation with a salesperson, discuss price, etc., and find me something that will put her mind at ease. Personally, I think my old suit is fine, and I'm certainly capable of buying my own suit.

News / Poland- Visa Waiver Program [55]

Many Poles want to come to US. I understand that.
However, Poles have failed to see numerous opportunities unfolding in Poland, in EU member countries and countries that will became EU members.
Grass in NOT always greener on the other side.

I want Poles, as well as Russians, Serbs, Croats, Lithuanians, Lativians, Romanians, etc. to come to America, and in large numbers. Europeans are generally well educated, with skills to offer to society. Unfortunately, many of the Mexicans, El Salvadorians, Guetamalens, etc. entering the country, legally or otherwise, are not educated. Whereas 100 years ago, uneducated immigrants could thrive in low skill jobs, and create wonderful opportunities for their children, today's " low skill " jobs require an education. Even the steel mills near Chicago require many entry-level applicants to have 1-2 years of college, or techinical training. Europeans immigrants often have these skills.

The United States will not stop the flow of people crossing the southern border. They want a better life. However, the U.S. must develop programs to educate these people, so that they can get jobs other than the lowest wage/skill jobs available. The current U.S. immigration policies are designed to stop uneducated, low or no skill workers from having opportunities to contribute to society. Europeans are unfairly caught up in this policy, because they have so much more to offer as a result of their educations.

USA, Canada / Store with Polish Speakers in Chicago to buy suit [11]

I need a suit, or so says my wife. To make things easy on myself, where in Chicago is a nice store where I can deal with Polish speaking salespeople and purchase a nice suit?

Law / American beer business opportunities in Poland [84]

One of the best stouts is available for sale tomorrow, April 28, 2007. It's only available for sale one day a year. It's Three Floyd's Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout. I'm acquainted through business with brewer, and I'm hopeful I can score a few bottles, as I will be unable to attend the party.

USA, Canada / What's the marriage interview like in America to get a Green Card [3]

I'm an American and I married a Polish citizen in January. Our interview for her Green Card is scheduled for mid-May. Who has experience with the interview? What type of questions will be asked? How long will it take? We are bringing a translator, who also handled our paperwork, but it's been a few years since she's handled a marriage interview. I greatly appreciate any advice.

USA, Canada / Polish bakeries in Chicago [51]

I went to a place on Belmont, just west of Harlem, a few years back, but it wasn't outstanding. There's a small place on Archer, Donajec's, which is good, but I have to believe that there's better out there.

USA, Canada / Polish bakeries in Chicago [51]

Where are some good Polish bakeries and/or pastry shops in Chicago? I've found plenty of delis, but I've yet to find a good bakery.

USA, Canada / I offer Polish language keyboard for free (Chicago area) [10]

So, tell us. What is Sledz like?

He's a very nice man. A Chicagoan genuinely interested in Polish people and Polish culture. He drove a long way for this keyboard. Getting to Indiana is a hassle this time of year because of the road construction. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to spend, and I was not a great host. My wife is sick, and she was sleeping when Sledz arrived. I didn't want to wake her. We spoke briefly. Perhaps in the near future we can organize an outing in Chicago for members of this forum. Let me rephrase that. Perhaps in the future, someone can organize an outing in Chicago for members of this forum. Sorry, but my plate is full.

Just to re-emphasize, Sledz is a very nice man.

USA, Canada / Good Polish/American Restaurants in Chicago area [90]

I would love to open up a Polish Deli right down on Peach Street (biggest street in Erie) and put up posters and flyers so all could see

Ethnic specialty stores can be very successful, especially in today's economic climate. People will overpay for food they believe is unique And they don't have to cater exclusively to one ethnic group. Good food is good food. I saw blacks in Gilmart a couple of weeks ago, and I see people from every race in Bobaks. If there are enough people of Polish ancestry in the area, the traditions are ingrained in peoples memories, and you couple that with few immigrants, the old traditions tend to die off. A good business could keep them alive, and allow the business owner to make a nice living.

USA, Canada / Good Polish/American Restaurants in Chicago area [90]

Bonieks- Thats right by my house but I havent been in there yet,
I`ll have to check it out sometime

As far as I know, everything is made there. They make great sledz, and their sausages are fantastic. They also supply a resteraunt, whose name escapes me, with food. A friend of mine swears on their czanina ( sic ) ( duck's blood soup ).

Law / American beer business opportunities in Poland [84]

My goal would be to try to attatch on with INBEV, which distributes Anheuser Busch products in Europe, including Budweiser. Significant beer volume isn't about taste, it's about marketing. INBEV, AB, SAB, etc., will market massive volumes of beer. As far as my tastes go, I drink Bud, Bass, and most any bock and dopplebock beer.

Real Estate / general questions about Gdansk locations [12]

Is the old town area nice? Close to shopping? Theatre? What's the atomosphere in the area? Young people, old people, mixed? We're waiting for my wife's immigration case in the States. I'm hopeful that we will visit Poland by June.

Is the Brezno area becoming more upscale? Any information is appreciated.

Real Estate / general questions about Gdansk locations [12]

My wife and I will take posession of her mother's condo. Her daughter lives in the condo close to the Baltic. It has ocean view. We will look to sell one or both. I'm just trying to get a feel for the locations. Both are two bedrooms. The Zakopianska location is ground floor.

Law / American beer business opportunities in Poland [84]

I really don't care to debate which piwo is better. Taste is very subjective. I do enjoy Okocim Baltic Porter. Anheuser Busch will market itself wherever there are beer lovers. Is there a lot of beer marketing in Poland?

USA, Canada / Question about Polish Social life in Chicago [22]

I'm married to a Polish lady, and we live in Indiana, right outside of Chicago. Don't look on websites, look in cafes, supermarkets, etc., and I'd stay away from the nightclubs. Speak your best Polish, even if it's not very good, it's like the shoe is on the other foot.
