History / What would Europe look like with Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Commonwealth today [209]

First point, it established the supremacy of EU Law. You are part of a supranational entity, the days of pure national sovereignty have been severely diluted.

Long long way? All he needs is the nod from the top brass. He has his ideas.

Sokrates, slow down. I was shocked that you said they could have Ukraine. You misread what I wrote.

I agree with your last point but that's not what I was trying to say. The boat will be rocked far too hard before that point is reached.

First point, Sokrates, Costa Vs ENEL 1964. Does that mean anything to you?

Second point, Rockefeller and his kind have plans to whittle away national sovereignty and let's just say that he has power and influence. Many academic lectures have been given on the area.

Where did I say that the Russians were rational? Firing missiles from Kalingrad at the shield would have been childish, not rational. Even more so given the American guarantees (hmm) and the fact that they were to be allowed inspectors to be stationed there.

Naivety, Sokrates? I think it is you who doesn't understand the situation. They can have Ukraine, what are you going on about? Even the noises of having Ukraine in the EU and NATO are producing heated discussions. They can't have anything without a serious price.

And the national interest is in this case....?

The US planned it alright. Why are you only beginning to think this?

I don't think it was about Iran, that was the pretext and phony excuse. What you must remember is restitution. Was the relationship between the US and Russia really that great before the whole shield idea?

I agree with you on the last point. It's like Poland signing to NATO, showing their intent, and then having it rescinded. Much of the fault lies with Tusk and Sikorski. Nobody was pointing a gun at their head to sign it. If they couldn't see that it was a bogus deal, that's just blindness.

Why would you want to antagonise Russia? Do you even know the range of those Iranian missiles? I'll tell you if you don't. I can safely tell you that they couldn't even reach Poland. It is France and Germany that have piled the pressure on Iran. They don't have such elaborate designs, I wonder why not ;) ;)

Now, where are those shyt opinions I have? ;)

News / What needs to happen in the world so that Poland and Russia form alliance? [297]

Crow, you live with Yugoslav War thinking. You are like a Vet who has never fully recovered from the brutality of war. Germany invades Poland??? Geez, 70 years too late Crowie.

The Ustashe is a force we rarely hear of in the 21st century, Crow. Normal Croats get on just fine with Poles.

Life / Scammed in Poland again [49]

I think there is sth akin, albeit on a much smaller scale, to the Holocaust. WTF? I hear. The Jews feel that they will be eternally entitled to different things because of what happened to them. It's similar to the Poles and communism. The world owes me a living becomes their modus operandi. I understand their frustration, having been lumbered with such a regime.

Then you don't know the prevailing mentality. I've worked among them for 5 years. If they are scamming Ireland, how come they haven't been jailed? They are just getting money for themselves and their families. Politics will be politics, though.

Are Polish people making the rules in Ireland now?

Isn't that part and parcel of the democratic process? Aren't rights what Americans love and Europeans adopted through documents like the ECHR?

Please spell out some of those responsibilities.

UK, Ireland / "Polish ambassador warns - think twice about coming to Britain for work " [126]

Many send money home from the UK but WB ran a thread about them rolling the dice and using what they have in the UK to get a better motor etc etc.

I think it's a bit of both. The young want to flash their wealth and others want a taste of what many in the West have known for some time.

Lir has a good point. Still, the Poles go for money most of the time and that's rather lame. They love their food, they love the nature here, they love their families and also their national events. They give up everything for money. Living in the UK isn't that cheap either.

Territory changes hands and is often contested. Poles are still very much welcome to cities like Lwów, Wilno and Kowno (Lvov, Vilnius and Kaunas). Commonwealth? Just another label.

The big future issue will be Ukraine's potential future accession to the EU and, perhaps, NATO. If Poland is too instrumental in that process, Russia will have sth to say about it.

Travel / Alcohol on trains in Poland [40]

Good suggestion, delph. It's like charging 2PLN for the toilet. I'd use it less reluctantly if I knew some drunk hadn't been there.

Planes have first class, why can't trains have some class? ;)

Life / Dogs in Poland - why do we keep them? [28]

They are a menace is irresponsible owners let them be. Maybe you should be shipped off there instead, one less idiot.

Eh, the idea is to pick the turd up. Dogs can't use toilets, deal with it!

Dogs are loved as pets by many here so why don't you jump from a high bridge!!?

Well, the crisis was manipulated here too. The 'undesirables' were pitched out into the cold and cases which otherwise would have been fitting for unfair dismissal suits were seemingly legitimised under the guise of a crisis.

Be under no illusions, it has been happening here. The only difference is language. They are more aware of what they are signing to.

News / What needs to happen in the world so that Poland and Russia form alliance? [297]

Well Crow, Poles have closer links to Croatians, both in religion and in ancestry. You know this as well as I do.

CK, you don't have a clue, do you? There were other reasons why troops were pulled out. The unpopularity of the war at home and the lack of commitment to what was tantamount to American bullying of European nations into war. Ever heard of the boycott of all things French? Look it up.

Some melons are tougher than others and Russia wouldn't fare too well against the entirety of the EU.

What chances did they have against yourselves and Germany? Virtually none! Still, Poland is here. They haven't been rejected at all. Obama has just reviewed the situation and put it on the back burner for now. He hasn't shelved it completely, it will be used as a tool in the future.

Poland is in NATO, good protection. Russia lost to little Chechnya, LOL.

Love / Broken Heart, An amazing girl from Poland [139]

Wildrover would be an agony uncle :)

Motoman, this is a tale told many times. In the interests of tact, I can only say that it is a blessing in disguise that she went back. You don't want to get embroiled in various disputes. Chin up, lad!

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

The grease was more than Beckham with his Brylcreem ;) It reminded me of cheap Scottish dumplings from primary school. The pierogi at a bar just 10 mins from me serves them greasy too but not dripping in fat.

I gained 3 kilos that night ;) ;)

Blueboy, my Mum gave up cooking some time ago so you win :) Lazy Brits and their microwave options ;) ;) The Poles are still checking their dictionaries to see what microwaves are ;) ;)
