There is a tendency to get over defensive here.

Where ? I can't really say what's the level of racism in Poland except that It definately isn't nor extremly serious problem and that It definately exists (like everywhere else in case of any race).

There's an ignorance about Asian people, it's really embarrassing.

BS. If anything the racism is first of all against blacks and Arabs.

And what would you know about the topic of people of colour having 'tendencies' to blame things on racism.

Many "people of colour" have tendencies to blame everything on racism, even a blind man should see that and in this case I could bet that a Japanese girl wouldn't have any serious problems in Słupsk and your Chinese/Jamaican butt buddy would still have problems in Warsaw, so next time think twice before you make thousands of people living in Słupsk look like some backward peasants, damn bigot.

He should come here, spend a few weeks and then make a decision. I can't answer his question, before I would have to paint myself, get foreign accent and walk like that for months and obviosly I'm not going to do that.

The other two targets were the cook at the Chinese restaurant (who was employed by local mafia so nobody every messed with him), a tatar-former-USSR army officer who'd met a Slupsk girl at uni in Moscow and moved to Poland. That guy was ex-USSR special forces (and one of our students) and so nobody messed with him twice. The Chinese/Jamaican guy was third Dan at Karate and looked Chinese enough to have learned how to look after himself in Jamaica so nobody messed with him more than twice either, or more than once if our student Jani (the Tatar special forces guy) found out about it.

That is why I would worry about prices retaining their values at current levels.

People working abroad are important for Polish economy but their influence shouldn't be overestimated, besides If they lose their jobs for example in Ireland they will simply move to another EU country or go back to Poland, where salaries for experienced construction workers are really not bad and in the next years there will be many new jobs in this sector.

Is salary growth of ten per cent sufficient to sustain these prices?

If people used to buy when they were making 10% less then I don't see the reason why shouldn't they buy for the same prices when they have 10% more money. Generally there are no domestic reasons for any crash on the market. That could be only the result of external factors and as a share of foreign speculants is rather small and economical situation of Poland is quite good then It would have to be connected without a really huge global crisis, there are some bad things going on but I doubt that It will be so bad.

Czechoslovakia took this area by force (with real fighting as an agressor) in 1919, there was going to be plebiscite, which would have been easily won by Poles but It didn't happen and in 1920 the land was divided - Poland gave up over half of the land only because Bolsheviks were near Warsaw and Czechoslovakia only then stopped blocking transports with weapons for Poland. Also there wasn't any cooperation between Poland and 3rd Reich, simply Poland forced them to give back the land they stole when they were in a difficult situation and I don't see how It is worse than stealing the land when Poland was in a difficult situation. The whole thing is exploited by Polonophobs, who claim that Poland somehow deserved to be destroyed during WW2, because before It collaborated with Germans but that's not true - there wasn't any cooperation with Germans. I don't want to make It sound like "Poles have never done anything wrong" but If someone really want to blame Poland for something then there are much "better" cases than taking back own land.

Good post Deise 07 but you should look more at attributes of a given market, not only on global trends and in this case It means that:

- there are a few million of Poles without their own flat, millions live in shi*ty communist era blocks and would like to buy something else.

- salaries are incrising (probably 10% this year) and people working abroad are bringing billions each year.
It means that the market is not going to crash, of course prices are not going to grow much because very few people would afford them but except few places where the bubble really exist, they are not going to fall down. In the next 1-2 years average prices will probably fall down by few % (those in few really overpriced places will fall down seriously, the rest will be quite stable) and next will start going up by a few % a year.

Nothing probably. If you mean why so many Poles went there, they are a few reasons... UK was one of only 3 coutries, which opened their labor market for people from new EU members immiediately after they they joined EU, quite many people in Poland know (at least basic) English, GDP/PLN exchange rate (used to be) strong and there were quite many Poles in the UK long before 2004, so many people were bringing their friends/relatives. That's all.

It really will be interesting to keep an eye on say this forum in a few years time when Poles return home only to find a whole lot of jobs and housing taken up by Ukrainians and Belarussians.

There has been large numbers of people from the FSU in Poland since years.
