Work / Average Polish Income is 2700zl per month [65]

Also, how can anyone afford the Audi R8, which is advertised on some billboards.

Not everyone here is poor. In fact, there are a lot of wealthy people in Poland.

And a lot of these people realize that they wouldn't gain much by going abroad.

If they didn't have money, they wouldn't be making PL KILLER a wealthy man.

Ten or so covers with a 10zl tip each [a day] would bring a waiters wage up. It's not impossible.

Language / So i bought the Polish game "Wiedźmin" to learn Polish. [27]

Oh but then you should try it :)

There would be more blood in the room than there is in the game, if I even thought about it. I did watch the TV series, which was good. In reality I'm not keen on computer games.

Language / So i bought the Polish game "Wiedźmin" to learn Polish. [27]

porta,

check:............ Wroclaw: marital problem number two. It is about Wiedzmin.

Did you get the box set ?

I think most people play these games automatically. They don't think about the language when they are playing, but over time they do learn it.

Law / Organised Crime - Mafia Business in Poland [21]

The other person I spoke to had their own plumbing business and after installing a new bathroom the customer just said "thanks" and didnt pay him. When he asked again he got a visit from some people.

That was just a scam to get a free bathroom. Some 'heavy' laying down the law.

In the past it was bars and night clubs. Other groups dealt with cars.

Genealogy / Polish War records [10]

Polish War records

Some of these might be found in British achives [Kew] or even German archives.

Search this site for more info.

You really need to know who you are looking for, what unit they were in, where they served.

With regard to German records and Poles: The only records I'm certain about are shipping records, which relate to a time before the war.

UK, Ireland / The best place to live on my own in the UK? [57]

maybe somewhere close to the sea or lakes, and with disertification in countryside,

Then you need the Lake District, which is near the west coast and one hour from the east coast. Or as mentioned earlier, Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the opposite side of the country.

You would be within reach of Scotland, Cumbria, Northumberland, North Yorkshire. These areas can be vastly different.
Compare: the Borders with the Lake District or Lindisfarne with North Yorkshire.

Travel / Petrified of traveling to Poland by myself [9]

Can anyone offer me any good advice?

Just follow the usual travel tips [for any country] and you'll be OK.

We can keep you up to date with what's happening in each city you visit. Just ask.

Life / Getting married, then moving MOVING TO POLAND [9]

are you polish living in poland?

I am now.

The usual thing for newcomers is teaching English, but try to keep away from this unless you think it will really help you. The quicker you find work that you are trained for, the better for you.

News / Polish "brainbox" comes back to Poland from the UK for a better education [77]

How can any credence be given to Polish qualifications when cheating in exams is the norm in Poland ? The invigilators even turn a blind eye to it all.

This was true [of the Matura] up until a couple of years ago. Now it's more difficult to cheat. But still, cheating still goes on.

Work / For all English teachers in Poland (who work for only $1000 a month) [102]

Jonni,

While you are here.

What is the arrangement for ZUS ?

What is the minimum number of lessons one can expect ?

Nobody darling can teach 7.5 hours a day and keep quality!

With smoke breaks, tea breaks, time to think... it's no problem. 7.5hrs straight... you have a point.
