Travel / Nice places to visit around Krakow [14]

Your very welcome and please feel free to add to the thread.
It is a very common question and I am a little out of touch with what happens in Krakow these days.

Life / What do Polish children call Santa Claus? [12]

ŚWIĘTY MIKO£AJ
St. Nichols and he looks like a Bishop. Some times he has a bishop's hat on and some times he looks like the cocacola red and white santa.

UK, Ireland / What is the cheapest way to move house contents from Dublin to Warsaw? [6]

Hello flano,
And welcome to the Polish Forum.
I am from Dublin and i live near Krakow in Poland.
Remember that you will probably be going back and forth, so you really only need the essentials, for the kids especially.
Have you thought about driving over? getting a van might be an option.
If you do choose this, i would recommend driving in the summer as I am sure you are aware there is a lot of snow in winter.

I have some good mates who are Flanagans, maybe they're relations of yours :)

Take care

UK, Ireland / POLISH MAN DIES IN FALL FROM FERRY in IRELAND..... [22]

he beauty of the open sea, so powerful and dangerous, yet so exhilarating.

That's it really.
We sometimes for get we live on a blue planet, 70% water if memory serves me.
One of the awe inspiring things about the sea is it's size, we are specks in comparison.
Just look at Ireland
The west coast completely battered by the Ocean and the east coast soft and rounded.

You have paid your regards with a RIP, so now the discussion of the sea can start.

Thanks, some times I am unsure.

UK, Ireland / POLISH MAN DIES IN FALL FROM FERRY in IRELAND..... [22]

Years ago we used to call these ships the Booze Cruise, because of the duty free you could get on board.

I must admit, I love being at sea in rough weather, I'm a bit of a freak, as I never get seasick.

One of the greatest trips I have ever been on was when i sailed on a small sail boat from Bergen Norway to the Shetland Islands. Just two of us on the boat.

i got sick but I still loved it, Shetland is a very special place.

Is it in bad taste for me to mention good sailing trips in a thread about a poor soul whose life was taken by the sea?

I will post this because I don't think so because people die in accidents.
It is a pity but a fact.

There have been many people lost at sea.
R.I.P.

I have taken many boats, it is a great way to travel and usually quite safe.

trying to shock people by how hard he is.

I don't honestly think so, I know he thinks it is amusing but this is a sign of a sociopath with an inability to show empathy.

I don't think he tells the truth or behaives truthful to himself either.
There is something else here, I think

Do they serve vodka on ferries?

Yes

But it should be noted that the safe guards are not that safe, a wet slippery deck on a choppy sea can throw the biggest most sober of us, who are not accustomed to it.

Feedback / PolishForums.com mission needs to be plastered on the front of this forum [49]

A debate only works if more than one poster can sensibly debate ?

So you ignore my points then? that is what I am talking about.

Not at all.

Well then... i am still waiting...

That's why I am still here and you aren't scaring me in the slightest

That is certainly not my intention but sure if you feel that way, I might not be 100% wrong on my observations.

I always have, have you ? You know nothing at all about me, what I have done or what I have achieved in my life so far. So, that's quite a meaningless statement :)

This is nonsence, debate or get off the po

And if it's a proper debate I am more than happy to continue .

So i await your response.

And who on earth do you think you are to tell me whether a thread is finished or not ? Are you Admin ? Do you own the site ?

Listen, I would prefere a debate than this.
Can we not state our cases and argue them.
I do not know you, I do not dislike you, I would like to debate this topic.
I find it interesting.
So if we could start again?

the Mission Statement should be changed if Polish Forums does not aspire to it ? Because isn't that what a Mission Statement is for ?

It is not the mission statement to blame.
The same way it is not the laws fault murder is wrong yet people still commit it.

I would have written the Mission Statement should be changed if Polish Forums members do not aspire to it ?

I don't actually agree on your interpretation :) I was going to write more here, and I will but I think first of all Admin should come on here and answer that point. After all, this is his Mission statement is it not ?

So what do you say Lir?
Lets continue?
I await your debatable points.

Excuse me, I misquoted there the first time and have now rectified it.
I am only human (well not according to admin) :)

You have a very definite inability to debate on here.
You seem to have the "my way or the high way" mentality.

You refuse to elaborate on what you say.

You say you do not agree and run off again?.
So how is anyone meant to know what you disagree with?
You do not take responsibility for your own actions.
Stand up and be counted.
I think you have a good reason for your views and I would like for all of use to debate them.
It is up to you.
State your case or say that this thread is finished.

came across another site which had a lot of detailed information about PF and analysis of traffic etc

Could you post that here, I would like to take a look, if nobody minds.

I'm happy to post it to Admin and it's up to him if he wishes to pass on the info....

Well OK then, should you not have also posted your original comment to Admin then?
You are making statements now and then being evasive.

Life / WHAT HAPPENED TO ŚWIĘTY MIKOŁAJ? [17]

Hello Polonius3,

Today is ŚWIĘTY MIKO£AJ day in Poland.
One of the things that surprised me about Poland when i first came here, was that St. Nicolas was a bishop. People have pictures of the bishop in thier homes and generally do not use the coca cola red white fat Elf-Creep.

I have gotton used to seeing ŚWIĘTY MIKO£AJ as a bishop and not what you are talking about but I am led to believe they do use the coca cola elf for advertising on TV but i am not sure, I don't own a TV.

When were you in Poland for Christmas last Polonius3?.

Life / Irish man wanna move to Poland [60]

Hello jedrula,
I am Irish and I live near Krakow.

I think the best thing you can do is learn the language.
I do not speak very well but I am learning.

Have you a job here?
Teaching English can be good money.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

It's the same old theme since nineteen-thirty nine.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...

oh, sorry wrong thread.....

Lir, I just think you are just accusing Admin

Oh , you meant threads ?

I meant what I said and I said threads, read it again.

I don't actually agree on your interpretation

Ok, I will wait for your points.

I think first of all Admin should come on here and answer that point. After all, this is his Mission statement is it not ?

But perhaps you ought to make your point more clear?
I disagreed with it and I hope we can discuss it further.

Have a nice evening :)

You too, take care

English newspapers ?

All newspapers.
I remember when I was a kid hearing of a newspaper that only printed good news, nobody bought it. People like negative things, there has to be a problem to overcome in a story.

Nothing about English or England.

Why ? and also you are very selective in the two posts you have picked up ?

That is why I edit my post, but I was not selective, they are the only two, well one you have made.

What is wrong in discussing Polish Forums Mission Statement ?

Nothing, I think in light of recent events it is a good idea.

I don't think it is intended as a personal go at me

I don't think so either.

but if you wish to do that rather than debate,

do what exactly? I am making points.

the Mission Statement should be changed if Polish Forums does not aspire to it ? Because isn't that what a Mission Statement is for ?

I would have written the Mission Statement should be changed if Polish Forums members do not aspire to it ?
It is not the mission statement to blame.
The same way it is not the laws fault murder is wrong yet people still commit it.

One shouldn't assume that because one thinks in a certain way that the other person also does ?

Ha ha ha ha ha, nice try

A good debate encompasses everyones views without needing to make any personal attacks against someone because their views do not coincide with their own.

What are you talking about? what personal attack?

I can't really answer that because people own their own views so you will need to ask them. Maybe ask here a general question or start another thread with that topic ?

I think this is a valid point and you are the one who brought it up.

Yes I agree. And I did mention this in my post two but it is worthwhile debating it I agree :)

Well then we both agree :)

Yeah but this doesn't appear to be a Forum for the benefit of Polish people, their country , their interests, their culture etc etc. Nor does it appear to be a forum to introduce people to Poland etc etc.

I disagree, i think there are lots of useful information threads on this forum and every day it is being updated.

At present , it appears to be a forum to knock Poland and it's people and their culture. Why is that ? Could it be that it is because it makes people post more and more posts apparently make the site look more popular for all the wrong reasons ?

I have considered this very thought myself.
But I also see that people react to negativity more than positivity. A bit like the newspapers in some ways.

The Mission statement for this site in no way reflects the type of posting that goes on in this forum.

Again I disagree, I do of course know what you are talking about but controversy and arguments is what a lot of people on here want.

I do find all this a bit strange coming from a person who does not practice what they preach so much, Perhaps you could look to yourself?

I don't want you to think I am being sarcastic. A while ago I got a bit lost in on PF, so I decided to change my tact, to give what I think might be useful information in my own words.

people aren't too clever here either, there's a lot of ignorance, prejudice, sloppy standards, rudeness etc etc

I think this is a very good point, so quite a few people are arguing and debating.
Of course there will always be people who can not learn but I do suppose that at least some people's views have changed for the better through discussion, what do you think Lir?

I know this was an accedental thread of sorts but perhaps it is a good point of discussion.

Real Estate / Alternative energy sources to use with newely-built houses in Poland [9]

its only 2 meters underground about..

I have heard of this one, my friend has it in his house in Lithuania, except in the pond.

He tells me there is another type, that you drill a very deep hole 3km down, he is thinking of getting this also.

'Niekonwencjonalne źródła energii' and section was 'Wykorzystanie energii geotermalnej ziemi'.

I will get someone to look into it for me.

all system is not to expensive..

It cost my friend 40,000 Litas (which is about the same as Zloty now) and he says it will pay off in 9 years.
He did not get any money from the E.U. or anybody else.

Yes I have heard about this from a mate but I have no idea how to go about it.
Sounds good, using the magma heat.
I have done a geological survey on the ground but I would imagine it is not enough for the depth of the holes needed for such a system?.

That is exactly what I ma looking at now.
For electricity and for hot water.
My brother (in Ireland) got 70% of the cost back from the E.U.
I read in a recent interview with the Major of the town where I am building that they have a Swiss/Norwegian funding of such environmental projects, his lawyers having gone through several E.U. subsidy schemes, thought this was the best way.

A friend of mine in Lithuania has a thermal heating system run off a large pond in his garden.
