Genealogy / Cemeteries in Poland [7]

Cemeteries in Poland are much different than in the US. They are above ground and the richer ones are made from marble. They are mainly maintained by family members. The cemeteries in the US are all even with the ground so the grounds-keeper can mow the lawn easier.

Life / My personal (American) view on Poland [22]

and the hospitals are not any better

I've been in hospitals a lot in the US. It's like my second home. (Haha).
The doctors and nurses really care for you. In Poland they will too if you pay them more money......:)

News / Suicide of Polish Ex-minister [12]

This is very sad.
No matter how bad life seams sometimes, suicide is never the answer. You may end your life here on Earth, but who knows what you will be facing once you're dead?

Life / How to convince somebody to stay in Poland?? [20]

This is like telling a young child not to touch the stove because it's hot. He has to touch it to know what 'hot' means.

I think she has to go experience work abroad in order to appreciate what she has. Otherwise she will always think about it. But it depends on the person. Some are happy with what they have, others want more.

But you can always show negative pictures of other countries and how hard people work......

Life / How to convince somebody to stay in Poland?? [20]

It won't be easy. The grass is always greener on the other side. Once the mind is made up to go make money abroad, the imagination takes over and they think money grows on trees. The only way to discourage is to let her experience herself that sometimes you have to work harder abroad than in your own country.

Work / Moving from USA to Poland (job at $100K a year) [23]

Same for electronic goods

If you bring electronic goods, make sure you have an electrical transformer because it's different electrical currency. If you buy a new car be very wary because they tend to get stolen faster and if you have something interesting inside, the windows might get broken.

You can find some deals at a bazar where they sell clothes and everything else. American clothes go for higher price, so it is wise and cheaper to bring them with you.

The food is excellent. Fresh fruits and vegetables. Deserts out of this world!!
Be prepared to pay for using the toilets. And the sand-paper toilet paper.
You'll soon learn that the hot water is on the right marked with red.
Stores are well stocked.
Watch out for nervous drivers. Make sure your brakes are very good.
You will hear a lot of complaining about everything.
Get used to watch boring TV programs with only 3 or 4 channels, unless you have a satelite.
You probably won't be able to return something you bought and didn't like.
Be prepared for unsmiling service in restaurants or stores.
The cashiers sit in stores and other places where in the US they stand to serve the people better. Some are impolite and don't care about the customer.

Poland is a beautiful country, most people are very warm, hospitable with big hearts.
I was born in the US but moved there when I was 8. I missed the US at first, cried at night because I didn't have the neat stuff I had in the US, but slowly got used to country. The teachers were very strict, but in Poland people tend to have goals, they want to achieve something, be better than others but it will take time to get used to it.

USA, Canada / Polish Dog Trainer from Chicago area / Dog Lessons [37]

This is an update from transporting dogs to the US. I did bring two pups from Poland. One was a Polish Owczarek Podhalański which I brought for Budnikski. They do not need to be tattoed, microchipped nor do they require a passport ( this is required only when traveling within the European Union) but they do have to be at least 8 weeks old. If the pups are under 6 months of age they can travel together in one kennel. They need is to be current on their shots and checked by a vet not more than 10 days before departure. The ticket on LOT was 405 złoty, which is about $125. The flight from Poland is 10 hours to Chicago. Once at the airport the kennel is already waiting for you and you need to go through agriculture customs where they check the papers. No hassles, no problems. America has two Polish dogs now....

USA, Canada / The Polish Constitution Day Parade in Chicago [17]

May 3rd Constitution Day was never celebrated in Poland during communist times

Yes, I was living there at the time, and we celebrated May 1st. I had to walk down the streets with my classmates, we wore school uniforms and it was hot, long and boring. Plus the buses didn't operate regularly on that day and I had to wait 2 hours for a bus to get home which was very, very crowded. Nothing like a tight squeeze!

USA, Canada / The best way to get your girlfriend from Poland to USA legal? [19]

Hey Dzejk
Apply for a fiance visa. Costs $175, she will get it for sure but have to wait 5 months. Once she gets to the US, you guys got 90 days to marry and once you marry you apply for a work permit for her. She will get her green card in about a year and become citizen in 3 years. All legal.

With the tourist visa if you guys will marry, you will have to go to immigration office and they ask a bunch of personal questions if your marriage was for real or not and you have other problems if she overstays her visa. But maybe you guys don't want to marry because it is a culture shock for Poles coming to the US.

Love / she is so beautiful......polish girl [52]

Polish girls are the most calmest tolerant people you'll ever meet.

Hey Lee_England, thankyou for pointing this out. That is true, I know this from my own experience. I was very tolerant with my "x" husband and he took full advantage of it. Cheated on me, lied to me, stole my money and still continues to destroy my life. But I don't care, I'm calm because I know that one day he will destroy himself.
