Life / TESCO SUPERMARKETS IN POLAND. Where are they? [15]

As regular members of the forum will know i have a desperate need for Heinz beans on a regular basis in order to keep at bay the shakes , the violent rages , the bubonic sores , and the earth shattering wind breaking....

At the moment i get supplies smuggled into Poland along with terrorist arms shipments , but i am aware that these wonderful sexy beans can be bought at Tesco....

I have tried to search on the net to find where the nearest store is to my hideout , but not had any success , so can anyone tell me where i can find a Tesco store in Zachdniopomorskie , in the Drawsko pomorskie area , or Polczyn zdroj area...?

I don,t mind driving a few miles to get my beans....anyone know where they are....????

Life / LOGS FOR THE FIRE...how much for a trailer load....? [18]

Oh man that was bad, my lips fell off hahahahahahahaha

I had a scarey moment with my Polish heater....First of all the dam thing nearly killed me with carbon monoxide fumes , then almost burnt the house down....

After waking up with severe headaches several mornings , and finding that smoke was leaking out of the cracks in the heater i decided to have a poke at it... just near the chimney going out of the heater i found an inspection plate , so removed this to have a look , inside i found the pipe which should have been several inches in diameter was almost totally blocked with carbon , this is caused apparently by incomplete burning , often due to using damp wood....

I chipped away at the carbon untill the hole was a more reasonable size , but could not reach all the way down the pipe , i hoped i had cleared enough to avoid waking up dead the next morning...

I lit the fire , and was much relieved to see it burning much better , with no sign of leaking smoke or fumes , i decided to risk going to sleep....

About 4 am i was woken up by a sound very similar to a mig 29 with its afterburners on , a loud roaring sound , coming from the heater.. I opened the door where you put the wood in to find the wood had almost burnt away , the roaring fire was in the chimney...!

I ran outside to look at the chimney pot , clouds of dense white smoke , sparks , looked like a bloody volcano...!

I went inside the house , ran upstairs to see what was happening to the part of the chimney that was in the upper room , getting a bit warm , but not enough to make a fire...

I thought about phoning the fire service , but decided to risk letting the fire burn itself out , as it was doing a pretty good job of burning all the carbon out of the chimney that i could not get to....

Unbelievably the roaring went on for almost two hours before it died down , and didn,t set fire to the house or the barn next door....

Since then the fire has worked very well... I am well aware that i came pretty close to not waking up due to the fumes coming out of the fire , one morning i was barely able to get out of bed and stagger to a window , had a bad head for days....

So , if you buy an old Polish farm , get the dam fire checked out before you use it...you could wake up dead....!

Life / LOGS FOR THE FIRE...how much for a trailer load....? [18]

Insulated....are you kidding...Ha..! Noo its not insulated , if i go upstairs i can look directly at the underside of the roof slates , no insulation there whatsoever nor do i have double glazing , just the old draughty windows....

My only wood burning device in the house is one of those old Polish heaters , wardrobed sized , covered in ceramic tiles....if i stoke it up before i go to bed , its just about still alight the next morning....

The main part of the fire is in my living room , but the back of it protrudes into the bedroom , and gives a bit of heat in there also....

The fire does make some good heat , but i guess most of it goes through the roof and windows in winter , i am not usually warm unless i am stood with my back to it , but it does make the room just warm enough to prevent hypothermia....

The trailors i mean , are those normaly seen being dragged about by an Ursus tractor...

Life / LOGS FOR THE FIRE...how much for a trailer load....? [18]

After almost freezing to death last year when a friend failed to deliver the promised logs for my fire , i decided that this year i would try another source......

I remember some time back i paid about 500 zloty for a farm trailor full of wood , which my Polish friends said was a bit expensive , so can anyone give me a clue how much i should be paying for enough wood to last me from now untill march...?

I have one of those typical Polish ceramic stoves....

News / A THOUSAND PEOPLE WITH SWINE FLU....just over the Polish border.. [43]

Poland has enough vacine to cover about 3% of the population , thats provided the virus has not mutated , in which case the vacine will be useless...

I would not count on getting the vacine in Poland..maybe somebody else knows different...

News / A THOUSAND PEOPLE WITH SWINE FLU....just over the Polish border.. [43]

If this swine flu in Ukraine is the result of people messing around with germ warfare , then we really are in trouble...

Many of the Russian germ warfare establishments were located in such places as Ukraine and Belarus , and some of them are still operating in these now independant countries...

When i was in Belarus , i drove into one of these places by accident while looking for a hospital i was taking aid to , the security was almost non existant.. A bunch of armed terrorists could have walked in there and taken whatever they wanted....Scarey...

Food / POLISH BREAD..... isn't it great... [22]

As an Englishman i am quite used to the water filled chemical enhanced terrible bread found in UK supermarkets , so i was happy to discover real bread when i moved to Poland...Usually i buy the Tost bread ay my local supermarket , but today in a local shop i bought Chleb domowy zytni.... I only bought this because they had nothing else , but its wonderful stuff , really tasty....

Does anyone know anything about this bread...?

Tell the forum what your favorite bread is....and why...

News / A THOUSAND PEOPLE WITH SWINE FLU....just over the Polish border.. [43]

Flu is a flu whatever you call it.

Well hopefully thats all it is...but they seem to think its more dangerous...My friend who lives over there says they are all walking around with masks on , people are scared..

Yes they have had flu there before , but this seems to be kiling larger numbers than has been known before , and a hospital near my friend is full to capacity with people , many of whom are very sick , many more have died than is usual , so naturally its causing concern..

Not long ago in history millions died in a flu epedemic...there is always a chance that this flu can mutate into something we don,t have a vacine for...Hopefully this is not the case , but its something to be aware of...The last big problem with flu happened in 1918....it killed between 50 and one hundred million people worldwide...it would be silly to assume it could not happen again...

Travel / What a horrible vacation (the water in Poland destroyed my gallbladder) [36]

Well said..... I am an Englishman living in Poland , and i drink the water at my home , without boiling , not got sick yet....Mind you , i live on my own farm , where i get my water from a deep water well...

I some cities in Poland its a good idea to boil the water before drinking , but as a stranger in a country its always a good idea to talk to the locals , to find out if its safe to drink the water...or not...

However in this case i think that Polish water has little to do with your problem...
