History / Poland before WWII or Poland now what would you choose? [390]

I meant that some Poles would still like to expand and take back parts of Ukraine and Lithuania.

I meant that before somebody will ask Poles for something.... they should think about other unsolved issues (I doubt that one day they will be solved).

What is more chnages after WWII only shows that Poland was on loosers side durring WWII. Poland lost milions of its citizens. Polish cites were devastated ... Poland was robbed ... it was close to total anhilation of Polish nation. Compensations were given for somebody ealse.

Before WWII I would chose pre-war Poland, today I would chose post-war Poland.

agree

First of all Nathan Germans are first country which tells Poland to forget about you and let Russians dominate Ukraine. In my opinion they might be right... (for all Polish people - read Nathan)

As to Germans ... they destryed Warsaw... and other Polish cities... and payed money for wrong country.

As to Soviets it is enought to see what have happened fro memebers of the most popular anti-Nazi resistance underground were muredered or imprisoned.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armia_Krajowa

In late 1943, the actions of Soviet partisans, who were ordered to liquidate the AK forces

Even then, the main forces of the Red Army and the NKVD conducted operations against the AK partisans, including during or directly after the Polish Operation Tempest, which was designed by the Poles to be a joint Polish-Soviet action against the retreating Germans and to establish Polish claims to those territories. AK helped Soviet units with scouting or organizing uprisings and helping to liberate various cities (ex. Operation Ostra Brama, Lwów Uprising), only to find that immediately afterwards AK troops were arrested, imprisoned - or even executed. Unknown to the Poles, Stalin's aim to ensure that an independent Poland would never reemerge in the postwar period made the Operation Tempest idea fatally flawed from the beginning.

Soviet forces continued to engage the elements of AK long after the war. Many AK soldiers continued fight after World War II in anti-Soviet Polish underground, known as the cursed soldiers.

And later Germany payed compensation for Soviets LOL ...

What is more Poles were expeled form towns on east... and it only shows how much Poles had to say after the war.

What is more:

geocities.com/Pentagon/9764/warpoland.html

Poland lost 38% of it's national assets, as compared to Britain which lost 0.8% and France which lost 1.5%.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toruń

After World War II, the population increased more than twofold and industry developed significantly. The University itself was founded by Polish professors of the University of Wilno, who were forced to abandon their native city and move to post-1945 Poland.

I don't need to confirm about my city anything. I know it was and is Ukrainian. If you are interested in history of Lviv, there are plenty of literature.

So why majority of its citizens fought against incorporation into Ukraine ?

LOL

Or Wilno

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Central_Lithuania

Where its citzens made pro-Polish uprise....

Anny way. the fact that Poland lost this cities and so many of its citzens were expeled after WWII to Poland ... show only how much Poland had to say after WWII...

As to Germans they wanted to expele all ethnic Poles from Poland ... it is much different story.

Nathan do you think that Lithuenians should have the right to expel me just because I have Polish national identity.

The problem is that Poles never expeled annybody in Wilno or . Unlike the Germans in Gdańsk or in Prussia...

Anny way it is not Poland who should fight over the maps. Decisions were made somewhere ealse.

Where did the monies for Poland's immediate post-war reconstruction come from?

Do you know how Polands recnostruction looked like.... Socialistic ... everybody worked. Poland haven't received single dollar from Soviets and also Soviets forbiden for Poland to participate in Marshal plan ...

Quite clearly this is Poland's problem not Germany's as you keep saying Germany should have "'payed money" to Poland not USSR.

Of course they should pay it for Poland not for USSR.

Maybe Poland should pay some current debts for North Korea and tell creditors that they should talk with North Korea. LOL

But actually there is no problem after all, as both the Polish and German governments agreed in 2004 that there was no legal basis for either country to pay reparations to each other. Maybe you should contact the Polish government and ask them why they decided not to persue this further?

Well ... if it is somebodys merci it is Polish merci. In my opinion it is totaly wrong.

Poland was invaded by Soviets and Germans in 1939.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov-Ribbentrop_Pact

In addition to stipulations of non-aggression, the treaty included a secret protocol dividing Eastern Europe into German and Soviet spheres of influence, anticipating potential "territorial and political rearrangements" of these countries. Thereafter, Germany and the Soviet Union invaded their respective portions of Poland, followed by Soviet annexations of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and northern Romania. Part of eastern Finland was annexed by the Soviet Union after an attempted invasion.

You are stupid Nathan. Germany payed money for wrong country. It is not Polands business. As I've said it is good that they haven't payed it for Iran, North Korea or Egipt. LOL

Germans payed money for their ally form 1939 with whom they invaded Poland.

III. REPARATIONS FROM GERMANY.2. The U. S. S. R. undertakes to settle the reparation claims of Poland from its own share of reparations.

Well ... Why Germans payed for Soviet Union ? Poland haven't receved single dollar from Soviets. It is German problem that they payed money for wrong country. It is good that thy haven't payed Polish comenasations for North Korea. LOL

What is more Soviet Union invaded Poland with Nazi Germany in 1939. I don't know why they received this money ...

Poland or no Poland you savages needed a victory to move on

Well German plans are well known

Best seller from Germany: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mein_Kampf

Mein Kampf

It was bestseller in Germany, now Germans can try to talk about maniac whose plans weren't well known...

They were well known... German wanted to murder half of europe... and they voted for it in elections. They votes "Lets kill people from neigbourhood countries"

It is my sign for Bratwurs:

Any German who wants to can now live again in the finely restaured old german towns of new Poland, thank you! :)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loecknitz

Since Poland joined the Schengen Agreement, the population of Löcknitz is growing, as rates and costs of land acquisition are lower than in Poland. Many commuters from Szczecin are living in Löcknitz

Making final conclusion. Poland was on loosers side after WWII. Poland lost 2 major cities with Polish majority before WWII. Milions of Polish people didn't receved compenations. Poland received some cities which belonged to Poland in the past and for which Poland had supported historical claims but ... they were ruined and destroyed. Now Polish former "allies" who sold Poland clean their hands and Poland has to struggle with Bratwurst like revisionists from Germany ...

Isn't it always "another case" with the Poles? LOL

It is you who moan on wrong forum. So you should cry in conversations with deciders. Americans, Brits and Russians.

Any German who wants to can now live again in the finely restaured old german towns of new Poland, thank you! :)

You can buy house in Poland ... if you have enough money ... :-)

BTW. Poland was raped, robbed and sold during WWII. That is subject for another discussion.

Move on! You are so yesterday...:)

I am not yestarday ...

It is German propaganda to claim majors of Gdańsk form middle ages ... pomeranians, speaking pomeranian dialect ... and durring WWII or middle ages they were murdered or expeled as Poles (and they considered themsleves as such)...

Gdańsk is Polish ... you can visit this city and watch how Poles rebuild it after 1945. There was no German architects involved in this construction. It has nothing to do with Germany. What is more this city was destroyed by Germans and Soviets durring WWII ... Germans expeled more Poles from this city (and documeted it ) than they had in their censuses before WWII.

It seems that Gdańsk is one of the most Polish cities.

BTW ... Goths were here long before surnames in Poland ... so this people had Polish surnames... when Germans came ...

Move on!

Oh yes ... Poles should move on ... and Germans should cry !!! Pure German way of thinking.

So I am telling you. Gdańsk has been build by Poles after 1945. City was destroyed by Germans and Soviets... in 90%. It has nothing to do with Germans. What is more Germans murdered more Poles there durring WWII that they had in their false statistics before WWII.

What is more this city has been founded by Mieszko... first ruler of Poland.

Forget about this city ... oh in case of change in your demographics ... you can buy house there build in anny style you like ... but don't murder or expele Poles as it was in middle ages or WWII.

Brooding in your corner again??? To bad, better move on you are wasting your life!

... if German won ... Poles would share histroy with exterminated Polabian Slavs (current eastern Germany) ... maybe there would be 50 000 Polish miniority around Warszawa.

As to Goths ... they have been looking for this blood in Poland..

This blood is in Polish blood... not in Germans who invaded Poland in later times :)

You renovated them and had the good instinct to rebuild the original german architecture...now they are pearls again...we thank you for that! :)

Oh we can talk about that..after you give the land and the towns back I'm sure we will find a compromise! :)

If you won ... Poles would be on other side of Ural ... those with Gothic blood as well...
You came to Poland to murder ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalplan_Ost

In 1941 it was decided to destroy the Polish nation completely and the German leadership decided that in 10 to 20 years the Polish state under German occupation was to be fully cleared of any ethnic Poles and settled by German colonists

You destroyed most of Polish cities...

The Berlin (Potsdam) Conference, July 17-August 2, 1945

I don't understand who gave for Soviets the right to take Polish compensation. Somebody gave money for wrong people. In my opinion Germany should pay for Poland and should debate with Russians about giving back money they wrongly gave them...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danzig#The_inter-war_years.2C_and_World_W ar_II

This wikipedia link haven't been written by Poles or neutral person. As long as it uses adjective Pomeranian instead of Pole.

What is more it avoids this information :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teutonic_takeover_of_Danzig

So this coty was Polish first. Later in many occasions Germans were murdering or expeling Poles from there... at the end they destroyd this city and were kicked by their Soviet ally ...

IT IS POLISH AGAIN - it has nothing to do with Germany. It has been build by Poles after 1945.

I'm sure Germans settling down again will feel quite at home there!Thank you for that...:)

Your demographics show much different settlement in your country ... :-)

freebird

Go throught other debates about it. Read about

Danzig became Polish by force you wanted to say

It is German map :

As to Polish Gdańsk citizens durring WWII : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danzig-West_Prussia

Stutthof concentration camp, where over 85,000 died(mostly Poles).
Piaśnica, site of mass murder of around 12,000 local Polish-Kashub intelligentsia and other people

Additionally Germans expelled a number of Poles and Jews-the overall number of the German ethnic cleansing is estimated by the Stutthof Museum at 170.000 and located German colonists in their place.

So something is wrong with your stats...

Anny way Soviets and Germans durring fights destroyed alomost whole city (90%). Gdańsk as we know been build after 1945 by Poles. It has nothing to do with Germany or Germans.

Although Poland did not receive compensation directly, under the 1945 Potsdam Agreement Poland was guaranteed a share in the Soviet Union's portion of reparations but Poland's former communist regime forfeited that right in 1953. Why did they do that?

LOL - Germany invaded Poland with Soviets in 1939.

History / Russia: Poland responsible for WW II [300]

Only one comment : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov-Ribbentrop_Pact

In addition to stipulations of non-aggression, the treaty included a secret protocol dividing Eastern Europe into German and Soviet spheres of influence, anticipating potential "territorial and political rearrangements" of these countries. Part of eastern Finland was annexed by the Soviet Union after an attempted invasion.

Ribbentrop and Stalin at the signing of the Pact

Rendezvous. David Low's cartoon, published in the Evening Standard on 20 September 1939, shows Hitler greeting Stalin, following their joint invasion of Poland, with the words, "The scum of the earth, I believe?". To which Stalin replies, "The bloody assassin of the workers, I presume?"

yep and that's why thank you guys for restoring it to what it used to be before the WWII. Like I said, great job.

It has been build for Poles ...
yup ... don't forget expulsions of Poles from Gdańsk orgainsed by Germans in 19 century ...
don't forget expulsions of the Poles from there durring WWII...

Gdańsk became German by force ... and now is again Polish.

BTW Polish capital after the war :

Where are compensations ?

Polish capital Warszawa after the war:

Well ... modern Poland in big part is reconstruction.

Kraków is the most original city. At the end of the war Germans wanted to destroy it like Warszawa ... but they started to think about it a little bit to late...

Anny way it is how reconstruction of most Polish cites looked like that :

Odbudowa

maybe, maybe not but then again until 1945 there were

If we go a little bit back we can see that Germans organised expulsions of the Poles before WWI (in 19 century) ...

As to your statistics something is wrong there because more Polish for their Polishness people were murdered in Gdańsk than exist in your census.

Most of the architecture was built by Austro-Hungarian empire, not Poland.

I've thought that you durring WWII togheher with Germans have been murdering Poles not the Austrians in Lwów.
