News / Polish myths. Poland is one of the countries that count in the world. [49]

Poland needs to stand up for itself and be counted.

Poland has been doing this for over 1000 years now. You have no
idea of the effort, blood and tears that have been given to just
preserve her very existance. Remember once not too long ago
Poland dropped her guard and dissapeared for 120 years.
Poland is standing up for itself, but it's not easy being sandwiched
between Germany and Russia.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

re: Polish nation also did crimes in the past

- What 'crimes'?

The Kingdom of Poland invaded Russia and occupied
Moscow way before Nepolean and made Hitler look
amateurish.

The most important thing is finding a way to get on
in the future. It's not looking too good at the moment.

News / Poland's Contribution to the E.U. [56]

France and especially Germany want to dominate the EU.

Apparently German was to be the preferred language for European communications but the European Union commissioners have announced - that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language, rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short). In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard "c" will be replased with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when troublesome "ph" will be replased by "f'. This will make words like "fotograf' 20 persent shorter. In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double leters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e"'s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go. By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" by "z" and "w" by "v'. During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "0" kan be dropd from words kontaining "ou", and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls of difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer…und Ze drem vil finali kum tru!

News / Thoughts on present day Lech Walesa [27]

By the world. Everyone knows who he is - what he did - what he stands for.

Listen to what he says. You may learn something.

The only Pole on Polish television who is overdubbed because no-one can understand what he is saying. True.

I understand him perfectly well and I'm born in UK - Polish my second language.

With a good team of people around him - he is the best man for
president at the moment. He is respected and has a sense of humour.
What he says makes sense. Doesn't matter what he sounds like. Nothing
to do with it.

Erm...just a little question...it's neither the original big guy nor the original smaller guy but rather their grandsons....how long does the grandson of the smaller guy still want to pout ?

...the grandson walks down the street with his grandad who limps - crippled by
his previous trauma. But - with a smile he tries to make the best of what
dignity he has left. The grandson of the bigger guy walks past. The smaller
grandson makes an effort to aknowledge the bigger - who in return calls them
both dirty car thieves.

Germans are frustrated that all this doesn't get appreciated at all...

...a big guy creeps up behind a smaller guy and beats the crap out of him -
leaving him for dead - and steals his belongings.

After a long painful recovery the smaller guy bumps into the big guy
in a bar. The people in the bar talk to the big guy and finally persuade
him to return the small guys belongings. Reluctantly the big guy hands
over the smaller guys things.

" There you go " says the big guy " Now say thank you... "

News / A thought on Poland! [140]

NOR do I like the somewhat overly-nationalistic approach of Polish twin leaders, the Kaczynskis.

...so you also think that the meek shall inherit the earth? Bollocks.
They will get nothing in todays world.

Human nature showns that the strong will survive - and the weak will suffer.

Standing up for yourself - and your country is not nationalistic. Just a necessity.
Don't be so naive.

The Kaczynskis are not perfect - but their actions are defensive. They comment when provoked and are not afraid to say it how it is - even if it offends. They will not take any s**t from anyone. They are looking for respect.

Respect is gained through honour, courage and integrity.

So brace for another lonely fight again, Polska.

...if you want to get something done - you've got to do it yourself.

News / Poland's Contribution to the E.U. [56]

Poland is causing a stir at the EU summit recently - about the voting rules - but I think in the long term Poland is trying to create a fair and even EU - where all members have equal say regardless of their population. Of course Poland is also protecting it's own interests at the same time. Poland, except for the Czechs, is standing alone. If it fails - the larger countries will rule the EU.

Poland is not afraid to stand up and fight.
It has 1000 years of practice.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

The whole point of the Eropean Union is that members can live, work and holiday anywhere within the Union freeley. I could buy a house in Poland, work in Italy and holiday in Spain. In 50 years time the populations will be mixed. I can fly to krakow quicker than it takes me to get out of London in peak rush hour.

Travel / Irish/Brits banned from hotels in Warsaw [43]

I'm not going to write a 10,000 word thesis on the links between wealth and social behaviour. In this case I am generelizing. The richer they get, the leerier they get (by this I mean as an economically advancing nation - not by the individual i.e. general).

Im quite sure there is...

Yes they are doing this already but not in the crass arrogant UK way. Just go back 5 years and you can see how the behaviour of Polish blokes has become less civilised. Just an obsevation. Civilised is the key word.

Poland is an old fashioned county - older men can still be seen kissing the backs of ladies hands etc They struggle with the stag night concept UK style. They younger generation - unfortunately - will watch and learn.

just cos people get rich

Of course it's not as straight forward as,
" Oh I've suddenly made loads of money - so I'll behave like a Twat - jeeeeeeez"

So next time you LADS are in Warsaw town - show a little respect and you'll
find they'll do anything for you.

UK, Ireland / Help needed - Calling all Polish persons living/working in London [60]

12 million people who break our laws

If this was true there would be complete anarchy. Don't worry - America will deal with this when it becomes a problem.

When you take delivery of a barrel of apples - some will be rotten. Get rid of
the rotten ones before the rot spreads - what did France do...?

We see France's problems coming to our country.

France has problems only because they ignore their ethnic minority communities. They are not respected or treated equally to French people. If a country lets in immigrants they should integrate them where possible.

They are human. They have feelings. They react when things are not right. It happened here in the UK. Now it's better.

People like Carly continue to make a difference by understanding immigrants and making them understand us. 75% of my friends are immigrants who are now integrated with jobs, families. They have character. They inspire me - I learn from them because they have lived - they know what it's all about.

Our next President will be a tough immigration

The only problem here is mismanagement of immigrants

It's unfair to say British because all the Scotts and Welsh that visit have a good time without trashing the place. The Irish are good people too but they are getting rich and with that maybe a little arrogant - like the English. Poland will soon get used to this kind of behaviour and in time Polish yobs will also be going around singing "get yer tits out for the lads!".

UK, Ireland / Help needed - Calling all Polish persons living/working in London [60]

I assume that most of us are not qualified to criticise the work of the Police - or tell them how to do their work - or know what they know. People are saying the police are uselss...I wish this turned into a Twilight Zone episode where tomorrow morning people wake up to find all the police officers have dissappeared. My God they'd soon find out what having a Police force means - the cops might even get a little repect. (I'm not a Police officer)

My point is that if people arrive in the UK then they should abide by the laws set out and fit in to the communities that they live in

Sadie - immigrants do abide by the laws and fit in where possible - in fact that's the process which Carly is trying to assist! Unbeleivable.

the money would be better spent on policing areas which have a high crime rate and getting more police back on the beat

I work in high crime areas which often are neglected etnic minority neigbourhoods with high unemployment and poverty. Maybe these are the people you chose to ignore?

People in the street don't really know what's going on - what the Police have to go through. It's so easy to criticise. Do we know the % of money spent on immigrants compared with local issues?

Immigrants - like it or not are part of England and should not be ignored. There will always be areas of need in the UK - with or without immigrants. That's for the government to sort out. Leave the Police out of it.

as I have stated Polish people seem to be doing just fine

so just like Carly you have done a survey to reach this conclusion?

I find it quite offensive that minorities are given "special treatment",

Sadie - you are so lucky to be born in England.

You will never know.

News / Germans file WWII claims against Poland [198]

The time for war's is over - money talks...Germans have already started to buy
their land back and moving in...whereas stupid Polacks are happy counting the money they get or just leave the country for the west.

The idea of a united Europe means that all Europeans can live where they want in peace I could buy a house in Spain and work there or buy a house in Germany and live peacfully with Germans or even commute to France. The EU language will be English (already is) This is positive and productive. Mr German - lets go for a drink sometime get drunk and have a good time. I drove through Germany the other week and stopped in small towns - met some nice people - we drank and laughed. A German girl took me home and we made love.

Mr German - if you take a 5 year old child from each country and put them together - they will play happily together and grow up as friends. Maybe our Grandfathers did their worst - but it's now time for us to do our best. We have all suffered too much for too long. ENOUGH!

polish and germans are totaly different

Kaka - you are completely correct. I experienced the same thing
in Germany. They are all generally nice friendly people - they thought
I was English - but as soon as they found out I was Polish - the
atmosphere became awkward. They tried to get on with me as an
English man but not so much as a Pole. I'm not sure why.

and Germans can hold a grudge and plot...believe it!

...please - whoever you are, think what you are saying...it's not worth it
...it won't be third time lucky
...but third strike and your OUT!

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

If Poland wants to be so pure why do we have an estimated 600,000 Polish working here in England? There are also many in Ireland. It does seem to be a Polish characteristic-they always want to be on the winning side of an argument.

Poles had their country taken from them for 120 years - they were treated like slaves - then they were shafted - then granted short-lived freedom - then their country was completely destroyed and then they were shafted again - and then their country was taken over for 50 years by communists....all within the last 150 years. The sense of loss and betrayal cuts deep. That trauma is subcontiously passed down the generations. I'm not saying ohh lets all feel sorry for the poor Polish people - I'm just saying it the way it is.

Foreigners will never know.
Poland is going through rehab. Let them. Rehab is never pretty.

why do we have an estimated 600,000 Polish working here in England?

For the same reasons why England let in the blacks and the Asians to work. Redemption.

Unfortunately we live in a dog eat dog world and that that. Swim or sink.

The world is what you make it. You have a free spirit too.

they are trying to do something, which is honourable.

There is no more honour in the world today. A few minority still have it.

Means cucumber in Polish???

Yep. Don't ask me why...

so I am sorry that you have this problem

Did I say I had a problem? I'm fine. I'm sorted. I was reacting to what Ola said earlier. She is not the only one and I feel sorry for them. I was mearly speaking out about attitudes/greed ( and yes it is greed) how to make a quick fortune and exclude others. People influence everything - including the market. Look at how estate agents behave. "lets throw a price in the air - someone will bite.." Human nature.

but can you change your job and do better so you can afford a better home, or so you do not have to work so hard??

Larry - there is no shame in doing a fair days work and earning less than others. Not everyone can be a city executive. Do they not deserve a home too - be it smaller and modest ?

I live in London and I work in Film & TV. I earn more than most people I know. That's great and I'm happy. But - I still could not afford to buy a house (small 2 bedroom) in my own town.

Now that stank rotten!
I got my house in the end with financial help from many people - I kept some of my dignity. I don't want a bigger home - or change my job because that is my chosen career and I love it. That's my right. God help some of my friends who don't stand a chance to buy because they don't have private help. God help the people of Poland who earn 5 times less than in UK and house prices in some areas are almost the same as in UK - it's moving too fast. Let them keep up.

pretty loousy

For those who work - it is a right. By that, I mean they should be able to buy an affordable home within their means. OF COURSE THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT!

It doesn't get any more complicated than that.
Driving is a priveledge. That's why we have legs. We can walk - or get the bus.

I build homes, I used to sell real estate for 20 years, i have seen homes that sold for 35,000 in 1985 go for 200,000 now

Is there a housing shortage in US - or lack of land to build? That's nearly 6 times the price. Justification?
BTW building a home or renovating a home is cool. My protest was against people buying ready homes, sitting on them and selling for profit later.

not he homes that are screwing up the people, its the "Free Society" living, moreover the humanisitc belief

People can think what they want. Nothing to do with it.

the old school of thinking about families

You say old school - it's just plain common sense. Everything starts at the home. It's the foundation.

We dont want foreigners in Poland buying out our homes

a home - roof over head - is a basic right for all people. You shouldn't have to work day and night and spend every last penny to secure that right. It makes me SICK! the way people go around buying up homes they can afford - and sell them for profit. Sure people can make money any way they like - they can choke on their profits for all I care - but leave homes alone. Homes are for families - to bring up children - to create strong neigbourhoods - you know the basics that define quality of life. In western Europe and US this is rotting away. I see Poland going this way too. It's just a matter of time. So everybody - make as much money as you can - have yer party and F*** every one else!.... right...?

How do you know that they wouldn't accept Germany's reign in Europe?

How could anybody trust someone like Hitler. He wanted more than Europe. He was developing the atomic bomb. He had rockets that would soon reach the US. If it looks like **** - smells like **** - then it probably is ****.

News / Dealing with constant insults against Polish [323]

the 20Million Russia dead a better contribution.?

I heard 11 million war dead and the rest victims of Stalin's own work/starvation etc

Your 50 => 700Bn calculation

I borrowed this from another source - some historian.

My own opinion would be that - without the help of the US, Germany would have won the war. The UK would not have been strong enough to take on Hitler - it was bankrupt in 1944. Because of this there wouldn't have been a second front in the west and Germany would have sent it's full strength to defeat Russia. Like I said before, Poland defeated Russia in 1920.
