There was a story in the papers quite a while ago about this Polish bloke, nicknamed the Polish Borat, who was running around groping women in London or somewhere, and when he got caught he claimed it was 'normal' in Poland and he was just being friendly and flirtatious, cos its in the Polish nature and culture. Idiot.

Love / Shall we go back to interracial relationships for a bit? [50]
yeah of course its just a message board, people can post whatever they like, but remember that stereotypes dont create themselves, we create them. and examples usually prove the rules. to me a white woman dating a black guy isnt trashy, shes more like open minded. but like someone else said, white old guys with thai/chinese/russian women who could be their daughters, and whom are probably internet or mail order brides, are kinda funny. and it is probably the only way they can get such a young woman. but hey, if it makes them both happy (the guy has a young girlfriend, the girl gets a new life in a better country), i have nothing against it.

what do British council estate mothers have to do with the issue of relationships between Poles and black people? i dont think carole looks anything like them.

My brother-in-laws cousin (Polish) is married and has a baby with a black guy she met in England. The Polish family hasnt got anything against it, the kid is cute and the bloke speaks good Polish, too. There is nothing wrong with interracial relationships, you dont choose whom you love and definitely your family doesnt choose them for you. If they love you, they will accept it, even if it takes them a lot of time. Poland is still quite prejudiced towards other races, but who says you need anyones acceptance? Its your life, live it the way you want it. Like whtever said, youre better off with someone who adores and loves you, than with someone white, catholic but an as*hole.

nope, just flight/coach ticket. no work permit or visa required.
he can ring the national insurance office (or something like that, check in the yellow pages or google it) and arrange an interview, in the meantime he might request a temporary insurance number to provide for his employer untill he gets a proper one, he will need to tell them his year of birth. he will need his passport for the interview. how's his English? if its not good they will get him a translator present at the interview for the nat. ins. no. he will also need to inform them about his address in uk.
edit: under no circumstainces should he work for someone without a national insurance number. they will most probably tell him on his pay day that they cant pay him cos he hasnt got one and its 'illegal'. a lot of Poles and other immigrants get messed about like this. they are happy for you to work, but wont pay you.

i'm not a linguist but i can tell the difference between Polish, French, Italian etc. when they speak in their language (not so good at recognising the accents when they speak English though). if you cant tell whether it's Polish or French it's just plain ignorance.
I was mistaken for a French once in Worcester, speaking Polish to a friend..

sorry, but if you ask Polish people about angina they will tell you its sore throat/tonsillitis. michal suggested Polish people died of angina (not angina pectoris) and i thought it was ridiculous. thanks for the info!

oh my dear God michal, what other lies are you gonna tell us? i had angina when i was a kid, dont think i was stressed out, smoking loads and binge drinking then, even though i am Polish. its a sore throat but more painful, its not a KILLER disease you feckin MORON.

It is the stress of daily life linked to high levels of stress, alcohol and smoking which is a big killer in Poland and always has been.

As for the Polish ex, her behaviour has nothing to do with Polish pride and thoughts such as 'how dare he leave me im so great cos im Polish'. how would YOU feel if your partner of 3 years left you, and then asked this girl he had only seen twice to marry him? would you not be hurt and embarassed? would you not be furious? he is happy to throw away 3 years of their lives together just like that, and then all of the sudden he gets hitched again. i imagine she felt (and still does) it was all a lie, the life she had with him, and that he had never truly loved her. now what makes you think that this 'prince' will not leave you in the exact same way when he feels the 'lightning' at meeting some other woman? his ex is not acting in a right way, she should let it go and never give it another thought, but when people get hurt like this it sometimes takes longer for them to see through their anger and do the right thing - move on. she wants to make your lives hell, and when you think about it - can you really blame her? you made her life hell. i sugeest you change your phone number and stop making fun of her. you have nothing to be proud of. now you watch your husband and pray he decides to stick to one woman for good this time.

Language / 'Uwierzyłem w kłamstwa te' - Confusion [15]
he said it meant 'i believe in lies' and 'these...' was a start of a next sentence, which is not correct. it might be word to word translation, but he is adding confusion, not me. besides im sure davey knows what the sentence means anyway, as he said he was fine with cases and he was only asking about why accusative was there. michal did not answer his question, he added his pięć groszy as usual.
no problem, had the same difficulties when i was learning cases at school. przyimki (adverbs i believe?) not always indicate the case. you have to ask the question.
i have his album, i really like "Życie jak poemat" :)

id say its because even though its got "w" in it, you get the accusative because it asks 'into what', ie what you believed in. Biernik - kogo? co?, in this case w kogo? w co?, accusative question still remains.
i accidently found this, a few "extra" cases in Polish language. quite funny ;). extra Polish cases

the correct order in this sentence would be "Uwierzyłem w te kłamstwa", and it is indeed translated as 'i believed in these lies' (its in a past tense). "te" at the end makes me guess that this sentence has been taken out of some songs lyrics which you have said by yourself, in order to make it rhyme with something. the sentence is put in a 'poetic way'.
