UK, Ireland / polish girls outnumbers polish men interms of relationships with native from uk or ie [178]

Because Rafik, Polish are obviously more interesting.....it would seem that the PL women are getting a bit of bad press because of a few doing wrong....Because of the influx of Poles in England there does seem to be building anamosity towards Polish...you know my point of view I dont have issues with Eastern Europeans coming to work here and add to the culture and economy....its the "element that are causing a few problems" that is highlighting how many Polish people are here....simply, a few a spoiling it for the rest..

I think that the whole “polish problem” issue is blown out of proportion on this forum. Just like admin said, there are only two trolls on this forum, that use several nicknames and are slaging of Polish people. There's freddy/barbarella/etc, who I really think had some bad experience with polish people, but now acts really silly, creating many artificial problems. And there’s also uk/bulldog/etc that's probably a young childish male that likes to argue and draw peoples attention. I must say that as much as I think that's he's not the smartest kid in the world, at least he does stick to the Poland related topics, and sometimes he even triggers a really interesting argument (I agree with frank 100% in the "trolls r us" topic but shhhhh, don't tell anyone :) )

My advice for all users is not to take these two posters very seriously and everything will be fine.

I am polish and I am assamed of what is happening in poland. Some girls sleep with their own cousins for money! This has to stop.Have we become so dirty?

And this post really made my day. :) It's total crap, but at the same time a very “juicy" one. :)

I can only speak for myself, however, and what you've quoted are my observations so far.

And I'm not saying that you are wrong.

Just as iwona said, more confidence and more promiscuous hip movements during dancing and you will have your personal British babe under your arm in no time. :)

Study / Entering college in Poland. [23]

The Jagellonian University in Krakow is a good example. Many students from USA go there.

Copernicus and John Paul II are one of many famous graduates of that university, so maybe it’s worth taking a risk and applying?

UK, Ireland / polish girls outnumbers polish men interms of relationships with native from uk or ie [178]

Polish gals sit around at their homes, unless they're interested in fishing some Briton, maybe they're too scared to go out, this is beyond me And Polish lads like very often to go out, believe me But perhaps they're too scared or/and shy to kick off a conversation with a British girl (e.g. me )
Tese are my teories about Polish singles in the UK If somebody thinks different, I'm not going to argue

It looks Bartolome that while setting up this thread you already had an answer to your question. From my experience however, polish lads don't even tried to pick up British ladies because of their problems with the language. I'm not trying to indicate that I'm more right than you. As far as I'm concerned it could be both reasons standing behind the whole situation.

do polish men like British women then? Why do they find us intimidating?

Polish men are just like all other men in the world. If you are a pretty lady, and after seeing your picture on this site I know that you are one, you won't have any problems with dating a polish guy. Of course there’s also the character, sex appeal, etc aspect (an average looking girl can easily be perceive as a sex bomb just because of their personality, etc) but lets leave this topic for another occasion. :)

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

The same situation will happen with the current immigrants. Give them some time, just like you are giving it to the Pakistanis, although they did come to the UK later than the Poles, and after all those times, they still seem to cause some friction in the society.

Ok, theres something seriously wrong with that sentance. :)

What I was trying to say was that the Poles just like the Pakistanis, have been present in the UK for sevelar decades, but while there are still some problems with the integration of the Pakistanis, the old polish group of immigrants is basically invisable.

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

if we lived in poland we would attempt your language ,if you want to live in the uk then speak frickin english .

Ever heard about thousands of Polish soldiers that stayed in the UK after the end of WWII? Did they not integrate? It's a rhetorical question, because we all know they did. They are still Polish communities spread all around the island that cherish their culture and origin, but generally they accepted the English way of life, and caused no further problems.

And they didn't had an easy life at the beginning. Just like today, they were also accused of taking the jobs, and under cutting the wages, but they stayed and now they are considered normal British citizens.

The same situation will happen with the current immigrants. Give them some time, just like you are giving it to the Pakistanis, although they did come to the UK later than the Poles, and after all those times, they still seem to cause some friction in the society.

Life / What is your favourite comedy (also Polish)? [63]

Did you watch "Dzien Swira" with Marek Kondrat? this got some reward on festival in Gdansk. Very funny.

I think that it's the funniest polish comedy made after the fall of communism. Absolutely love it. I think that Koterski's films are all great.

Love / Do Poles consider getting married more than other nations? [21]

It's very hard to have a divorce when you get married in catholic church. People do vow to be together until the death takes them apart, and they do try to stick to it. If one is not sure, then for the sake of the children he better don't do it. So yeah, marriage in Poland is a very serious matter.

Life / Halloween in Poland? [77]

So there aren't any types of greetings for this holiday...

No... I don't know of any.

OK, it's really time for me to go get drunk! See you later fisz. :)

Life / Halloween in Poland? [77]

I personally don't treat this holiday as a sad one, but more as a mystic one. Every year I'm attending a mass on cemetery on afternoon, then I eat my dinner with my family, after that I usually go visit some kind of spooky place with my friends where we tell each other scary stories, then it's cemetery again (it looks really beautiful after dark with all those lighten up candles) and I usually end up this day drinking beer in a pub. :)

Actually I have to go now. Have a good All Saints Day everybody! :)

Do people normally greet each other with Happy all saints day? How are people greeted these two days? Po polsku

No. I think that it would be considered a boner. :)

Life / Halloween in Poland? [77]

Don't you call it Zaduszki or is that all saints day on the following day?

Zaduszki are celebrated on the 2 October, and have their roots in a pagan holiday called "Dziady". On that day our ancestors were meting on the graves of their relatives to feast and pray for them. Aside from sharing the food with their ancestors they were also setting up bonfires on their graves, paths and crossroads to keep their dead worm and show the wandering restless souls the way home. The other tradition was to set bonfire on the grave of a person who died in a tragic way, as it was believed that that person may become a vampire, and it was just a precaution to stop the daemon from haunting their living family members.(vampires are typical Slavic daemons, and maybe when I have some free time, I will write something more about them)

Besides at that day Slavs believed that earth was full of wandering restless souls, and some people were summing them in order to help them achieve redemption, etc…

At present some of the old tradition prevailed in Zaduszki, like for example lighting candles on the graves of ones relatives.

Love / some polish guys will f their own people ovr to get what they want [13]

I agree with fisz. There is just a type of men all around the world, appearing in all cultures and nationalities, that will do anything to achieve their goal. But it's not a polish comon characteristics.

As for "not trusting other fellow Poles" while staying abroad, there were some people that just preyed on other honest peoples work, in result causing some feeling of mistrust among the new Polonia. As much as I would love to see all poles being fair and helpful to each other, they are only humans, and don't seem to be any different in that matter to other nationalities.

PS: During my stay in the UK I haven't encountered any back stabbing from the side of my fellow countrymen.

Love / Rules for dating Polish girls [189]

if she asks you then i mean if i asked a guy to go out for dinner with me then i would pay but that's a different story

Call me old-fashioned, but I wouldn't allow that. :)

i'm from Canada and came to PL to visit my GF.

Sorry to hear that, but it's obvious that aside from greed she had no filings for you. A normal polish lady wouldn't take such an advantage from you. I think that in a very short time you will be able to "smell" a gold digger form a mile.

Pozdrawiam :)

ola123 I think that you are being to harsh with the English right now. I wouldn't accuse the whole nation of the actions of one man. There were a lot of MP's in the UK Parliament that really stood for Poland and it's fate. And I wouldn’t say that Poland was betrayed. I would rather use the word deceived. :)

blur13 It will take decades for Warsaw to regain it's beauty from the times prior to WW II. Warsaw was twice heavily damaged then, the second time being in the 1944, because of the uprising of its inhabitants and the underground polish army. At the beginning Poles had only ammunition for about 2-3 days of fighting, and only about 2000 of them had actually a side arm, but still they managed to defend for 62 days. The resistance of Polish people made Hitler so mad that he ordered to wipe out Warsaw form the surface of the earth. In result 80% of the buildings were destroyed, and 18 000 soldiers, and about 150 000 civilians were killed on the Polish side. Germans also had some serious losses, of 26 000 soldiers killed and injured. During all this time Soviet forces were standing near the city, only observing and waiting for the uprising to fall.

So as you see, about 60 years ago Warsaw was a big pile of dust, human ash and dead corpses, but its greatness is being slowly rebuild, and I really like it that you appreciate the results.

News / Terrible School Incident in Gdansk, Poland [34]

I dont understand why the other girls couldnt stop it....

In the last few days, that question was one of the most frequently asked questiones in the country, and still nobody knows how to answer it. I'm shocked and angry at those oppressors as well as on the rest of the class, that did nothing to help that poor girl.

6- as a guy.... you pay for everything involving you and your girlfriend

For me it's obvious that since I'm asking a girl out on a date it's my responsibility to pay for it. It's just a part of our culture. If you don’t like it, don’t date polish girls.

Just wave your non-Polish passport and a wadge of dollars, or better still, euro or pounds.

Ok, omit the "non-polish passport" part, and you can successfully replace the word "Warsaw" with "London", "Paris", "Berlin", "New York", etc...

UK, Ireland / They eat a LOT of chocolate in the UK! [30]

I think that the most chocolate obsessed nation would be the Mexicans. I heard that they even eat chicken in chocolate!! :)

The Polish do Mleczki something-or-other which is rather nice too.

Ptasie Mleczko??

Krakow has a lot of history, it was the first capital of Poland and has some of the oldest buildings in Europe.

Correction, it was the second Capital of Poland. The first one was Gniezno.

the current practice of holding dead bodies in private homes till burial is outdated and a health risk..

The current practice? :) Where did you get this? :) I think people already stopped doing it in the 50's.

UK, Ireland / polish girls outnumbers polish men interms of relationships with native from uk or ie [178]

Again, back to the main topic everyone...:)

The reason why Polish women outnumber Polish men in terms of forming relationships with natives from the UK is generally because of the poor English that many of our country men display. A Pole with a proper English shouldn't have any problems with dating an English girl. But lets face it, many Poles can speak English only on a basic level, which is not enough to start a decent conversation with a woman. Polish girls don't have this problem, because in both of our societies men are the ones expected to trigger a flirt.

As for you Bartolome, maybe you are just looking in the wrong places?

Life / Whats driving like in Poland? [70]

OKay well my family and my mom is from Czestochowa and i have never seen them there or Warsaw either.... that's weird

Częstochowa is called "The City of the Saint Tower", and is a catholic sanctuary, so I don't think that you will ever see them standing there.

As for Poznań, I haven’t seen them for over two years now. Maybe they have changed their working place? :)

Life / Poles love to send SMS [47]

Yes, but I can bed these companies didn't realize Poles would be using SMS on such a large scale.

These companies are present here for longer than a decade, and they still didn't notice that Poles are sending a lot of text messages? If they lose because of this service, and still they are continuing to advertise it, what does it make them look like, Ben?

So when it's something important you don't send sms I guess.

When it's something important, you phone the other person. Simple as that.

I can call within 5 seconds and writing a sentence may take up to 5 minutes.

Are you really not able to write in less than 5 minutes something that you can articulate in 5 seconds? What are you, Corky Thatcher or something? :hihi

Matyjasz was being used in the XVII century. Maciej is the proper version these days. Females usually call me Maciek. ( matchek) :)

what about the name sarah in polish?

It's Sara. It's a very short name, so we don't need to shorten it more in polish. :(

Hey, don't be sad about it, magic is a brlliant nickname mate! Think of the wow potential when being introduced for the first time to members of the opposite sex.

Friend: Woman x have you met my mate Magic...

I never thought about it that way. :) I guess it really does sound pretty good. :) :)

Genealogy / Is Rafal a Polish Name? [56]

i have been calling my friend Rafal to Raf and he looks at me very funny when i say it is there a english version to this name such as the one above,

I think Raphael is the english eqivalent of the polish Rafał.

Also there is a name that sounds like shemeck which people call him sam x

It's Przemek. It's a shorter version of Przemysław. Very often it's shortened to Przemol. (pshemol) :)

You are both right. Mateusz and Matyjasz (which BTW is the old polish version of Maciej, and is practically no longer being used) are Mathew in English. Unfortunately I didn't knew that at that time. :(
