Feedback / If I wanted some of my threads deleting, would anyone get upset? [16]

Mb you could start with some of your own you hate..
And hopefully others will follow your lead.. ))

I have only mentioned ones that I started.

Personally. I have started so few. But so many have added to them.
It would be sad to loose them.

Some threads don't have anything added to them worth reading.
If there were any great responses, I wouldn't suggest deletion.

Mb you shouldnt worry so much.. If what you were doing wasnt ok.

I've had threads deleted before - good ones and bad ones.

If I look at my profile page, I find it quite hard to seperate the occasional good grains of wheat from the huge volume of chaff.

i like fresh starts

Welcome to PF.

Love / What's God's answer TO my gf, after cheating on me after 4 years? [65]

GranPartita:
We all know that there ain't that many men or women out there.

roughly 3 billion.

There is a song that goes:

When I was just a baby, my mother said to me:
There's only one girl in the world for you,
And she probably lives in Tahiti.

It is not a Tahitian song.

God will give you the answer when God joins Polish Forums - Dot Com. I can't see that happening in the near future, although he does make an appearance in Polish Forums - The Opera.

Life / Swimming certificate/bribing the bureaucrats in Poland [13]

....Myself and others enjoyed reading about your memoirs

I believe I remember this, although it was a while ago. Anyone got a link to it. I did try looking for it once but couldn't find it.

It may help someone find a link if I just show that in this bag I have a very nice bottle of vodka, almost itching to escape and change hands.

Some of the threads I started that I don't really like:

The Dative Case (This thread enlightens no-one about the dative case - I was confusing it with the genitive)
Congratulations, Wyspianska. (Locked thread anyway)
Does Poland have SANDWICH VANS
Survey of Poles in the UK
Private Messages link - When will it change again?
Edit not working

and last but not least:

If I wanted some of my threads deleting, would anyone get upset?

Love / Polish men vs German men: Who is hotter? [513]

Check my link

So if you don't fit the national stereotype given here, then there's no problem:
Turks are too sweaty, Russians too hairy, Greeks smell, and the English are fat. The Dutch and Americans fared badly as well - the survey shows they are too rough and dominant. German men can rest assured they are worst, behind the premature ejaculating Swedes.

I'm no fat, but some people say that size is not important.

I've got too many old threads hanging around. This place is beginning to look like the clothing section in a charity shop.
I think it's time for a bit of a clearout. Would anyone get upset if I made request for a few threads to get destroyed?

Has anyone else got any threads they started that they just wish weren't there? Threads that don't bring anything interesting to the forum or drifted rapidly off-topic before anything useful could be posted?

Language / Classes, books, audio books, CDs? - best way to start to learn Polish! [23]

Classes?

Maybe.

Books?

Possibly.

Audio books?

Could do.

CD-ROM?

It's an option.

What about trying to talk to some Polish people? Is that a possibility.
That's how I started. The next step was to join this forum. It's a slow process. The book I have is okay for a bit of learning, but things seem stick in the mind better if I've asked someone how to say something, then repeated it back. I find I have to use each thing I've learnt at least three times before it really sinks in. I suppose I might just be a bit of a slow person.

News / Poland's Future Includes Fewer Poles, More Foreigners [324]

The petty conflicts of European nations are no longer important in the face of the colored Horde that is invading the West.

Unless this so-called coloured horde pick up on local customs such as not liking whichever neighbours it's traditional not to like. Some of this so-called coloured horde is not a new thing and have even been around for fifty, sixty, a hundred years.

Where does a white Muslim or a black Christian fit into this picture? Or what about someone whose heritage is both black and white? Or what about people who some call black, some call white and others call something else entirely?

News / Should Poland send volunteers to Georgia ? [100]

duh

Go "Duh!" yourself. Did I not say there would be similarities? It is not the same.

Refer to Sasha's post following mine for one very good example of a difference.

News / Should Poland send volunteers to Georgia ? [100]

Why does someone always mention Kosovo in these kinds of discussions?
There may be parallels with many modern day ethnic conflicts, but simply stating that conflicts like this are the same thing, unfairly simplifies the problem. It is essential in cases like Georgia to know more rather than less.

There may be some mess, and some sort of humanitarian aid may be required somewhere.

Feedback / How did you find this site? [88]

Okay, so I really was looking for Polish swear-words, probably using g**gle. I admit it. I was hoping to find a little more than that, but I didn't expect this place to dominate my life like it has done.

Sorry that in my last post on here I didn't mention the presence on this thread of plg, dziwna_gruszka and Shelley (also a guest, but I assume this is the same Shelley - some comments about "the North" being friendly could be a bit of a giveaway).

USA, Canada / DO AMERICANS/CANADIANS TRAVEL TO POLAND???? [57]

it's a widely known fact that England has horrible weather.

Polish weather on the other hand, is brilliant. But for England: Ireland and Wales are wetter. Scotland is colder and wetter. Scandinavia is colder. In the winter (when most people aren't going on holiday to Europe anyway) much of Central Europe is colder. England's weather isn't great (although I'm happy with it), in part of Essex close to London there is actually so little rainfall it could almost be semi-desert (maybe). Hmmm. Better off visiting a meteorological website for this kind of stuff.

I'd like a holiday in Spitsbergen - for the weather.

If you want nice food, Poland is pretty good. I've not dined out much in Poland, but what I have tried is to my taste. Almost as good as parts of southern Europe.

UK, Ireland / Polish is suing because she cannot speak english!!! [45]

any contract signed that is not in your native language can be void if not provide instructions in english or a sworn translator present.

Then it's one word against someone else's as to whether or not a translation was provided.

How did you find this site?

With the internet.

On google (was looking for Polish swear words .

That seems strangely familiar.

This is an interesting old thread, full of lots of interesting old names (mostly still young though). It's good to see Krysia, FISZ, rafik, Arien, Miranda (as a guest), lef, HAL9009 and Bartolome all on one thread. I'd like to know why these people are all still here.

USA, Canada / DO AMERICANS/CANADIANS TRAVEL TO POLAND???? [57]

Poland is just as nice as France

Sometimes nicer.

more picturesque than England

* sharp intake of breath *

One problem may be the kind of places American tourists feel they ought to visit on a European holiday. These will include places their ancestors came from, which will more likely than not not include Poland (this probably goes for every European country - think about it for a moment), and may include specific destinations such as Auschwitz, which could leave the wrong kind of impression of Poland.

I'd recommend visiting every country, with the possible exception of Liechtenstein (just because it's too small).

It's Tuesday, so this must be Belgium.

UK, Ireland / The Daily snot rag (Mail) removes anti-Polish content [30]

an article about Poles eating swans

I thought it was a mistake made by a journalist after a Pole said he'd eaten słoń.
You're allowed to eat elephants in the UK, as long as you eat them whole.

USA, Canada / Young male American Poles [34]

I am taking it up with vafunkypants......... I dont blame the whole gang when one is at fault.

I wasn't pointing the hoof of blame at anyone regarding that observation.
It does seem though sometimes, that when people get upset by a small number of people or even an individual, some people take a much larger group and blame all of them. Another bad habit is for people to say it's not Scotland, England is to blame, or I'm not an American, I'm Polish, and so on...

What other bad habits are there? People picking their noses in public, breaking wind and blaming other people, and being racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, misanthropic bigots with no sense of tact, wit or social skills. Oh well, it happens.

Patrycja19

I assume that name means you're only 19... Oh doesn't time fly! 21 now that you've been here a couple of years?

walk beside you and not behind you

Ah! So you know about donkeys.

I'm young in human years, but getting a bit old in donkey years.

Remember you are well passed your sell-by date and young blood is moving up to push you to one side.

This seems to be the post that everyone's talking about.
Franek didn't reappear after this. Maybe he was just soooooo offended he will now refuse to ever darked PF's door again. Well, this thread anyway. I imagined he may have taken it in a good humoured way. Mr. Koolo wasn't referring to Franek, who didn't even fit the description given at the start of the thread.

I could think of a few recent members who do fit that description.

What seems interesting is that British trolls and British scum are blamed on the perfectly reasonable (and only slightly reasonable) British members of the forum. (What? You blaming me for noimmigration? I can go and learn Portuguese instead, you know?) On the other hand, have any reasonable (or even just slightly reasonable) American forum members been blamed for this new wave of Yanktrolls?

We would have been done with you and your "sacred" island long, long ago.

This isle is supposedly sceptred, not sacred.

We would have been done with you and your "sacred" island long, long ago

Meaning what?

You get a few bigotted tossers with foul mouths and unpleasant attitudes and their nationality means more than that?

Food / Is it possible to buy Live yoghurt in Polish shops? [23]

I only eat the stuff for the bacteria!

Would you take it in pill form if you could?

This reminds me of the 1950s and 60s vision of the future. Pass the bacofoil suit, I need my nutrition pills for the evening before going into some kind of floatation stasis...

Food / Top food products you'd want to see in a Polish shop [32]

If I were to come across a Polish store outside Poland I'd want as many basic ingredients as possible.

It might be nice, but how many overseas Poles are going to pay extra for the priviledge of buying the same thing at extra cost just for the sake of getting a load of stuff under the same roof? You mention flour being different. Maybe there could be demand for some sort of Polish flour. Rye flour certainly seems to be hard to find.

Finding a good greengrocer isn't always easy, but I asked my local grocer of greeneries if he could get raw beetroot. He said yes, and now I will have to buy some of it or I'll feel guilty!

Okocim

There's definately not enough of this about.

wyborowa

This stuff gave me a nasty turn recently! All my own fault I thought, until now.
