Food / Some cooking spices in Polish [46]

Almost every evening.

Sadly, I don't have the time. Even when I'm at home, blethering here, I'm usually working on something in another window...

So this is why I would appreciate the recipes so that on my days off/holidays, I can get down and cook something from scratch.

Love / Is it really possible for a Polish man to be just friends with a woman? [32]

I have more male friends than female.

I do to. I'm not sure why this is. It's also true that I have more Polish male friends than Polish female friends. So yes, Polish men can be just friends with women, although in my experiences, I hug my Polish male friends more than my British male friends. Not sure why this might be either.

Food / Some cooking spices in Polish [46]

I'd like to see something like recipe of the week/month on the forum,

Not a bad idea. I cook from scratch roughly once in a blue moon but I would like to start cooking Polish foods (rather than have others cook it for me).

or at lease we can compile the existing and put them in a sticky.

Not a bad idea. This is a good topic Z. Helpful.

you have to find the job you don't want.

Correct. I have made a career in the job I didn't want. Took it on to make some money and was paid a very low pay (like £3 an hour - this was a few years ago) and now I have worked my way up the ranks to where I am now plus been to college etc and now they're telling me they want to me continue with a Uni degree to 'up' my qualifications. So yes, sometimes it makes sense to go for the one you don't want.

And BTW, I didn't leave school with many qualifications.

Haven't looked on Monster but like I said earlier

Not the only site. Use Google (or whichever search engine you have) and you'll get a list.

Love / Need help: Can't get my polish girl to say "I love you" [84]

the more she hears me say it, the less she's going to be swept off her feet

Unless you're saying it every five minutes I don't think she'll be less affected by it.

these words will drown among the others spoken

You seem to have a way with words so I doubt this will happen... ;)

Love / Need help: Can't get my polish girl to say "I love you" [84]

I may have raced her to it. And I'm just waiting for her to get there.

This is true. It really is very hard to utter those words you know.

I don't want my words to lose their worth

They won't lose their worth if you mean them.

because they are the most wonderful words you can possibly hear,

This is true (but also close behind is hearing your six lottery numbers being drawn on a Saturday night ;).

No, it is true. To hear those three words (especially for the first time) is perfectly wonderful...but it does take a lot of time to actually say them. It's not because she's Polish that she can't say them, it's because she's not ready. That doesn't mean she's not totally into you.

doesn't make much sense does it? I guess someone is lying coz we can't have both

Evidently we can. There are shortages in many trades for example. Maybe you feel like picking up a trade?
We are short of nurses.

Many of the job available at the moment are unskilled positions such as kitchen porters, factory workers, chambermaids etc. British people are not going for these positions but a lot of them are being filled by immigrants. We can't complain of a shortage of jobs or Poles "stealing" them if we're not willing to take them ourselves.

I never found a job in one.

I have never tried to find a job in one, I'll admit that. But I know people have found jobs there, and I took on two people last week who got our advert there.

It is true though, that there are many ways of finding jobs if you do not like the JC. Like Donkey says, there are agencies. Walking up a main street near my work today I saw three adverts in shops windows looking to recruit for inside that particular shop.

would actually love to work

Of course there are many people who would love to work but can't for whatever reason.

but can't get jobs coz they all been taken by immigrants

Like I said before, the JC would be shut if there were no jobs.

job centres are actually of some use to anybody

I personally wouldn't use them to recruit if I thought they were of no use.

I get satisfaction from having done a day's work, even if it's not the best day

I do to. I rarely leave work feeling like I've not achieved anything.

there not enough to go round for Brits and Pols

If this were true, the Job Centre would be closed...

Feedback / What PolishForums Looked Like in the Early Days :) [11]

Goodness me i think there was more life in a grave yard than what the forum used to be like.

Well, all forums must start somewhere! I'm glad it became so successful.

interesting people we have on the forum to keep us here.

True, there are many characters on PF! :)

The old background seemed too bright

Yeah, and it looks awful empty as well.

And at one time I was second top poster for the month with five posts.

lol - now that must have been in the early days! :)

This month you're tenth with 278...

...and I am fourth with 495...me Gods. :)

Here is something I found on Google a couple of days ago...the original Polish Forums! :)

Quite interesting to see the huge change that the forums have gone through in only a couple of years. What do you think of the original PolishForums?

It might also be interesting to know if there is anyone who is a member here today who was a member back then but maybe under a different name or as a "guest"? :)

Here it is:

Enjoy!

UK, Ireland / Where to find Polish people in London? [55]

Why would you leave your house and take the chance of being Run over.. Mugged.. Hit by lightning..??

I take this chance every day! (Although, hadn't really thought about it like that until you said... ;)

News / English vs. Polish hostility [323]

It's just a shame that if someone employs a dodgy gas-fitter,
they're most likely not the ones who have to take the consequences

Yeah but they are thinking about the money.

For personal use, I only accept the best

Clever Donkey.

Me too. I'd rather pay the extra and know I have a case if my house blows up :)

There are parts of every city I wouldn't wander around in even in broad daylight...

Its borders onto Canal Street. Thats the heart of the gay community.

Yeah. It's strange because I don't remember if it was in the gay community then. It was just a pub close to the MEN and there were about 30 of us looking for booze. We had a great time there though, I remember.

Well yeah, it's the illegals that tick me off, guess I just think of all Polish as Illegal coz where I live thats what they all are. Don't see any Legal immigrants round ere

Well, that's fair enough because illegal immigrants hack everyone off.

Well if it was only way of getting a job, guess I would yeah

Well, I am sad to read that but you're right, it may be the only way of getting a job. I don't know your circumstances or qualifications etc.

I do wish you luck in getting a job.

Some companies are aware of their responsibility to the client. It seems that business is taking the lead rather than the government

This is true. The government couldn't care less.

In Scotland and Northern Ireland you can register with SNIPEF as a plumber. Unsure about England and Wales.

its not that they can work without its just that they do because they can get away with it.

Well, really, that's just what I said but never mind... :)

dolly thats not totally correct there are plenty of people working for less than the minimum wage and i'm not just talking about illegals, they just don't know that they are getting paid under the minimum or they are happy to do so

Fair enough.

Though, anyone working in this country who is here legally does have a case if they are being paid lower than minimum wage. Illegally is a different matter of course but that's up to them.

just doesn't seem fair that they can work for that but we can't,

Would you want to work for less than minimum though?

It would be wise to have any such appliance checked.

I'm with you on that. My point way back is that people complain about some Polish standards of plumbing etc but there are many British tradesmen whose standards are just as low, if not lower, and people are employing them too.

yes they are working illegally and not CORGI registered, it does not mean there is a loop whole it just means 'cowboys' don't bother to register and hope people don't ask to see their registration. Or on the other hand they are out of date certificates they show or just fake the certificates themselves

Well, it must mean there is some kind of "hole" when 20,000 approx can work without being registered. Some clients couldn't care less about certificates, it's their bank accounts they are thinking about mostly. Sad, but true.

to set on polish for like less than minimum wage,

Well, I doubt that. Anyone who is getting paid less than minimum wage would have a case. And anyone here to earn money is not going to accept being paid less than at least what they are entitled to.

wow wow, i'm sure you do dolly, my step father had to go and renew his license and make sure it was up to date.

He'd have to renew it because he has originally done things correctly and registered.

CORGI estimate there could be as many as 20,000 people working illegally on gas in the UK.

This a quote from Corgi web site (this webby is on my favourites). It therefore points out that there is a loophole.
