Love / I need advice on a Polish guy Im seeing. Thanx :) [30]

I just feel we have something special

The sex might be good, but would you share the cost of a house and then just walk away.
I've seen it all before. This guy is playing you... hook, line and sinker.

But then you know how it works because you cheated on your last guy. What lines did you spin him.

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

Just a thought. The way I see it.

She is away from home and finding her self struggling to move forward. The stress is building up and she is taking it out on you. One reason, in my opinion, is that she is in a relationship she would rather not be in. She can't get out of it because she is relying on you to provide various things. This could include the roof over her head.

You want the relationship to move forward. That's a danger sign for her and that's why she is going back on the pill. A child is the last thing she needs.

She might be seeking help for the stress, but not neccessarily with you in mind.

I'm curious to know when she last had a holiday.

Just a note. The strike lasted one day.

A pointless effort in my opinion.

Travel / WE ARE BACK FROM POLAND AND HERE IS OUR REPORT [96]

A great report. I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed Poland.

With regard to your visit to Czersk.
I understand the emotion of standing in the footsteps of long departed family. I experienced something similar last year when on a visit to the UK. It's a very personal thing.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

In school in the UK kids were given the ruler or the belt for misbehaving in class up until 30 odd years ago

A bamboo cane and up to six whacks on the palm of the hand or backside
A leather strap. The type a barber would use to sharpen a razor. [thirty or so years ago]
Two 12" rulers taped together, but with a thin piece of metal running down the centre, to keep the device rigid.
The slipper. These days it would be a trainer/tennis shoe.

Often used to humiliate rather than anything else.

There was an unwritten code. If a pupil was reduced to tears after punishent, the rest of the class would look the other way.

Did it work ? For a short time, yes. It helped to concentrate the mind !

Law / Citizenship problems - my dad's name has Polish letters. Help! [12]

So I absolutely must have a PESEL?

The PESEL number is on the DOWÓD. So, yes you need it.

There should be a specimen picture of a dowód, somewhere on the net. It might help you to know what's required.

Getting the documents together might be a hassle now, but life is so much easier when you have the relevant Polish documents.

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

Come on people help me out here, restore my faith in polish women

1. You shouldn't have to ask someone to apologize. They should realize their own fault and act accordingly.
2. She is suffering from stress, which you pointed out. Find a way to help her relieve it.
3. Make your phone calls to your mum and friends when you are at work. Or tell her to get used to it. She has no right to dominate you this way.

4. She seems desperate to succeed in her learning, but not her relationship.
5. She seems inexperienced in relationships. You need to talk things through.
6. Most men would have dumped her a long time ago. Examine what's keeping you together.

7. The final test. Suggest marriage and see what happens.

Edit. Forgot to mention this: 8. I think she is using you.

Law / Citizenship problems - my dad's name has Polish letters. Help! [12]

Do you mean English place names like Weston-Super-Mare,

This caused some problems for me and the clerk, but was sorted out within a minute or two. I now come from Newcastle upon Tyne.

I don't think that's going to be possible. I have the same problem - my Polish surname originally has an n with the dash (ń) but of course as I was born in the UK my documents don't have the dash.

I am sorry to hear this. I just thought it might be worth a try.

Naturalization Records might have both versions. Just a guess.

Genealogy / Agencje detektywistyczne - Tracking down people in Poland [10]

Those wanting to track down a concrete individual in Poland would do well to contact a private detective agency

Or they could follow the links that are constantly provided, here on the forum.

But of course if you can't find the links then maybe a private detective is the best route after all.

Law / Citizenship problems - my dad's name has Polish letters. Help! [12]

Also, do I need a PESEL anyway?

Yes, it's very important.

Now, my Dad's name begins with a crossed L, and that is what's written on my (Polish) marriage certificate. Unfortunately, my (British) birth certificate has him as a 'normal' uncrossed L, because the British system doesn't accommodate Polish characters.

Get an officially translated birth cert and make sure it has the crossed L [£]

If you have place names that include hyphens. Don't include them.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

And that's the exact reason why assaulting children should be a crime just as it is for assaulting adults.

I would never recommend more than a police caution if it came to the crunch.

Parenting classes might be an answer. But how and where they should be given is a problem. For most people parenting is something you 'learn on the job'. This is why there has to be some give and take in the way children are brought up. Without education it might be difficult to blame someone for taking the wrong advice.

On the other hand. Nine months should be long enough for potential parents to plan ahead, seek advice and understand their resposibilities, both legal and otherwise.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

Where's the logic?

I cant answer for hairball. I've said all along that spanking may be justified in some cases. It can work. I just don't find the need for using it.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

Those who believe in spanking were spanked themselves and think it's the best thing in the world because they are afraid to admit that they are wrong.

For some this may be true. But both hairball and myself have let it be known that we were either spanked or were punished at school. Neither of us spank our children.

I believe that most cases of spanking are the parents acting out their frustrations. We can see this in shops when a child is smacked in full view of other shoppers. Some folks need to control their emotions and stress a little more. Until they do no law will stop them.

hairball,

I find myself defending those who choose spanking. Only because you asked for answers.
I am on the same side as you.

Which "rare occasions" do you choose?

When a child puts him/herself in imminent danger. When learning from the mistake should take seconds, not longer. [As in my post 11] or [the example of babcia in post 1]

What we are not considering here is the force behind the smack and the resulting pain. If any evidence of the punishment remains after a few minutes. Then it was too severe.

Also, the age of the child is important.

I know from my own personal experience as a child that smacking doesn't teach you right from wrong.

It teaches you not to get caught again. LOL

I've already stated that I don't smack my kids. But I will not condemn those who feel it is a necessary and justified punishment, on rare occasions.

So how can it be different when an adult "smacks" a child

It's different because adults are capable of rational thought.

A child poking a metal object into an electrical socket will learn right from wrong a lot quicker, with a quick smack, than if I were to explain the flow of electricity and its consequences.

There is a difference between a beating and a few smacks to discipline an unruly child.

There was also a time when 'six of the best' was used as a teaching aid.

In my experience it seemed to work quite well, but never led me to thrash or spank my own children.

When a spanking is the result of the parent's frustration. It's wrong.
When it is a considered response. It might be justified.

Genealogy / Researching the name Rosenthal [14]

military records.
naturalization records,
maybe [?] social security records,
ships records.
electoral registars.
directories. I left a link for old Polish directories on the resources thread.
find a Suwalki message board and leave a message there

It might help if you can find some of those american family members. They might have valuable info.

Have you tried LDS records ?

News / Poland wants $55bln of new roads for Euro 2012 [51]

Would you rather have media silence so it could be swept under the carpet???

No, that would be foolish. I think more details about what the Polish FA are doing and a little less about the fans would help.

Wroclaw have you been to Germany or France ?

I have a flat in Berlin. Does that count.

I thoyght this discussion is about something different

My point is that the roads won't be built on time and even if they are there are other problems that will fcuk up Euro 2012 for Poland.

how can you blame the media!! if there was no problem, there would be no media to cover it :)

We don't want the media making a mountain out of a mole hill. Maybe.
