News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

drug money

And probably sold in the west, I am guessing, is heroin the main crop?.

Compared to afghanis, Pakistani ones are a confused/angry group of half-ass fighters with no clear goals or objectives.

They surely realised that the government was not going to deal with their demands.
Did they kidnapped the Polish worker to kill him and get world press to show that they are willing?.

"urging the Polish government to withdraw its contingent of about 1,100 troops from Afghanistan, where they are helping fight Taliban insurgents."

I know you won't know their exact reasons but I just thought I'd ask.

They offer them a good salary

Where does the money come from?.
It is logical to assume, from what you have told me, that if you could cut the flow of money there would not be so many members.

pakistani taleban and al-qaeda are three seperate phenomena and they all happen to disown each other which I am sure many of you might not be aware of.

Do they not cooperate with each other? against their common enemies?.

The problem is that Pakistani government is failing to act in terms of winning the local support simply because they don't have those kinds of resources to act.

Do you mean the government does not have the resources to stop the Taliban? and therefore they are not getting the support from the people?. (correct me if I misunderstood).

Based on their threat tactics, they cannot go all the way because sooner or later they will face some competition.

Who is the main competition?.

I have lived in Pakistan for about 22 years

Are the Taliban getting stronger there?.

would lead to huge civilian casualties.

And more hatred towards the West.

Travel / Traveling to Krakow on on 9th any ideas were to visit [13]

The snow has mostly melted but if you wanted you could go skiing in the mountains.
It is snowing outside now but I don't know if it'll stick.

Snowboarding rocks, it is the best fun you can have with your clothes on, worth a try.
There are instructors that can give you lessons in English.

I also recommend Zakopane, one hour drive south from Krakow.

If there is anything more specific that you like, just say.

Bring walking shoes and roam around Krakow.

we are too civilised to stoop to reciprocity

It's time to bomb them into the middle of next week.

This sounds contradictory to me.

News / Stealing electricity in Poland... being resourceful or theft? [21]

cut down six 20mtr tall trees

I recently had a hefty bill for cutting down 5 trees.
I did a deal with the town council though, I am going to plant close to a thousand trees instead of just giving them the money.

I thought this was fair.
These guys will get fined and probably another fine for doing it without a permit.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

Irish have long complained about the poles going to poland and taking jobs, the poles can equally make a point when the Irish come to Poland and make money at the exspense of the local pole. fair point.

I do not think it is a fair point.
Not all Irish people complain about Polish people going to Ireland and working.
Most Irish people respect Polish people for their work ethic.
We have a long hard history of immigration and not everyone forgets this.
Jobs are being lost in Ireland so things are difficult for everyone at the moment.

What do you mean make money at the expense of the local Poles?.
Do they not pay for flights, accommodation, tours, invest their money and pay the Poles?.

You make it sound like the big bad Irish, come here and work the poor Polish into the ground.
I can tell you I have never seen this.

And when someone makes money they very often make money for everyone involved.

Say an Irish person buys an apartment, they put their money in to Poland, employ Polish notarys, builders, real estate agents etc...

I fail to see what you are getting at, should Irish (in particular according to you) not invest in Poland?. why?.

I get the impression you have encountered and had difficulties with someone from Ireland.
We are not all saints or sinners for that matter.

I am not just saying this for any kind of silly reason but I recently watched this and I thought the exact same thing.

The future is bright, the future is Polish.

Hello uncle betty,
And welcome to the Polish forum.

I have read some of bolek's posts and I can hazard a guess at an answer to your question.
He is not all there.

He sent me a personal message to change my original post, which I have.

Lets see if he will answer your question...???

why come on this forum and be so negative

Good question, how about you answer that one yourself?.

UK, Ireland / Here comes the Anti-Immigration marches.... [114]

A few workers voice some genuine concerns? Reaction - we're all racist, ill educated trash.

That is one way of reading it.
I think everyone feels it is unfair for these men and women to be put out of work.
The comments on this thread are a reaction to a load minority, who I think use this situation to spew hatred.
You are right of course, we should not get ahead of ourselves and tarnish the millions of people who get on with it and have genuine problems due to immigration.

UK, Ireland / Here comes the Anti-Immigration marches.... [114]

The big picture shows that it is/was British people who did not help British people and now in the aftermath foreigners are getting stuck with the bill.

So what does that tell you?.

Misty, That all makes perfect sence to me.

I don't understand why the anger and frustration is being channelled in the wrong direction???.
Is it the class system?, crap rolls down hill (not up).
I really don't understand why the wrong people are being blamed.
I thought everyone understands why the credit crunch/recession happened?.
Maybe it is an inability to think, you go to work and physically see someone else getting the jobs so you blame them?.

Whatever the reason, it is very old.

It seems Polish and Pakistanis etc... are being blamed for the credit crunch/recession in part by certain people.

It makes me think of history and when people were starving they blamed the Jews.

I can now see how easy it is for people to turn on a group to "protect" themselves.

The recession is because of the glabal markets collapse, but the numbers of people in the UK versu the number of jobs in the UK, is a problem, decreasing salaries because of cheap labour and rising cost of living is a problem for the indiginous population.

News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

Then you know Irish history and the mass immigration to far away lands to seek a better life.
And in those far away lands people spoke like you about us.
Or have you forgotten already?.

There will always be users and abusers of systems, try not to fall into the trap of labelling all Polish people (or anyone else for that matter).

Some are meaner and some are more generous.

On the fence again? :)
But do you not think that when someone from Britain or Poland invite you to their home, they are hospitable?.

ARE BRITS MEANER AND LESS HOSPITABLE THAN POLES?

Both British people and Polish people have great pride in their hospitality and go to great lengths to make their guests feel welcome, comfortable and lavish food and drinks on you, once they have invited you.

This thread is popular because people take offence at the thought of such a crime of being rude and inhospitable.
I have been invited to the humblest of homes in Britain and Poland and there is not enough that the hosts could do for you.

That's my two cents.

Life / Cool Polish names [133]

Hello imbatman,
And welcome to the Polish forum.

I would recommend a name that can be said in both languages, English and Polish.

There are millions of names to choose from, which do you like?.

Your story is a bit confusing, do you have a new baby sitter too?.

UK, Ireland / Here comes the Anti-Immigration marches.... [114]

The 3rd Worlders who flood here are used to a standard of living that Brits haven't had to tolerate since before WW2. They lower the expectations of employers towards their employee's. Of landlords towards tennents.
They import illnesses that were eradicated decades ago. And they think we are inferior for our lack of belief in Allah.

Three generations it has taken to produce home grown suicide bombers and women who dress more strictly Islamic than their cousins on the streets of Pakistan.

They are also behind a huge majority of the heroin being imported and distributed in this country.

It was this comment that annoyed me.

The protest itself is understandable, it is a disgrace what is happening in Britain.

My comments are a reaction to a loud minority.

I have lived and worked in several parts of England with people from all over the world.
I think the British stiff upper lip thing is admirable, it seems people are not as vulgar to foreigners as in other countries.
But I am not going to read the hate on here and not react.

I know it is a bit of a tight rope for me, I wish for you to know it is a certain type of person that I am arguing with and not all English people.

I suppose the separation is normal English people who are pissed off by the policies the government uses and certain business practices.
While the regular family is trying ever harder to make ends meet and the racists who are always waiting for problems so their hatred can be channelled (without justification).

Sometimes good people buy these lies.

I hope I am clear?, I might need to tighten up in editing :)

UK, Ireland / Here comes the Anti-Immigration marches.... [114]

Ive never lived in London, but it's never been a problem in Manchester, which is a large city.

I visited Manchester once when I was fourteen, they are all Irish and I found people very friendly, even though I was there only for a couple of days.

England and Ireland had a bit of a long history, which bit are you referring to?

The hating Johnny Foreigners part, of course we were refered to as "Paddy" back then.
But not by everyone, just by people like you though.

one does not just wake up and decide these things, it's more a gradual thing,

So how many years did it take you to become a racist?.

The recession is because of the glabal markets collapse, but the numbers of people in the UK versu the number of jobs in the UK, is a problem, decreasing salaries because of cheap labour and rising cost of living is a problem for the indiginous population.

So why are people blaming the foreigners rather than blaming your governments policies?.
Put blame where it firmly rests.

Jystina, she is a prime example of a person who changes her views like the wind.

I fail to see what she has to do with this topic and why you bother to mention something else.
You say you are consistent, I would agree but a consistent what? racist? It's nothing to be proud of.
Someone could interpret your die hard racism as the inability to change your mind and reassess the situation, personally I would not give you that much credit.

I know, I was merely correcting you *again* *sign*

I know.
