Life / Polish Radios that play good Polish music and English rock music? [19]

There's a website, wish I could remember the name of it, it lists all British radio stations and links for listening online. There are several classic rock stations.

Try this link for some Polish radio stations

multilingualbooks.com/online-radio-polish.html

Click on the actual link to the radio stations to listen live.

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

So often, you instantly sense the uneasiness with which they use their adopted names.

I know two guys called 'Marcin' who introduce themselves as 'Martin'. I've heard many others.

lol sorry thought it was for some reason what am I like : 0 )

Don't worry. My name is a popular English name nowadays but it's origins are Italian (wonder how many people actually know that!). I dont think it's got any Polish connections.

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

It's strange that out of all the Polish people I know, it's only the men who give themselves "nicknames". All the girls use their real ones (and there are some tricky ones) but the guys introduce themselves by their "nicks".

My name is simple but still mispronounced and spelled incorrectly often.

News / Why so many bad candidates for Poland Prime Minister? [261]

it is the PM's job to decide which idea or mixture of ideas he/she goes with.

This is true but generally the committee is made up of "experts" (if that's a good word to use) so generally the decision is made my them. Any decision the PM makes comes from a shed load of advice from many advisors/experts.

News / Why so many bad candidates for Poland Prime Minister? [261]

well nobody else wants the responsibility so i expect they do, lol, it is dangerous but somebodies got to do it :)

I believe (Politics is not my thing) that decisions are made by all members of committees like COBRA etc

by dangerous I meant that if one person makes the decision, why have a committee? One person making the decision is a dictatorship.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

its called marketing - thats how they get the punters through the door and on their books......not difficult to understand really!

If someone advertises that they need say "a baker" and then turn away five master bakers in favour of a Polish baker (because he/she will work for less) then they have falsely advertised that position. Nothing to do with marketing.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Sorry but I never even said anything else bad about the Poles before Grzegorz said that

Maybe you should get your facts straight before you accuse me of yet more "Pole bashing"

You forget about all of this then...

I second that, coz of those polish mother *******, my girlfriend with two 7 month old babies can't get a concil house, and me, my brother and his g/f can't get jobs. My brother getting real deppressed now and it all thanks to the bastard Polish. Torch the ******* lot of em I say!

Where I live, at some places, it a job requirement for people to be able to speak polish. What the **** is that about? I'll tell you what this is! It's a ******* invasion! I've never hated a race of people as much as I hate them ******* Polish. It's getting to the point where I would gladly give my own life to bomb the mother *******!

I really wasn't going to reply to your post but the reason you came on was to bash Poles. Verbally is just as bad as physically.

This topic really has seen its day...

There is no point, just replying to Grzegorz

Then why post it?

Grzegorz was probably replying in frustration to yet more Pole bashing. Polish people do not come here to read posts against them. The Polish people on this site are very helpful, especially with translations and providing info about Poland.

Life / Polish Birthday Traditions [42]

OK

Next November (2008) I will be 30. Are there any Polish traditions which accompany this?

Love / Dating age difference - my 16 yo is dating a 26 yo Polish guy [102]

I live in Scotland and in this case, you'd end up on the Jeremey Kyle or Trisha show!

It's generally not acceptable outside of the US, as you have seen, but does happen.

I do remember from school, some couples with a ten year gap. One of them are still together.

Each to their own I guess, cos she'll be 28 now and he 38. I don't know that anyone has a problem with that...?

Good luck, good cheer, may you live a hundred years.

Sto Lat

Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam.
Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam.
Jeszcze raz, jeszcze raz, niech zyje, zyje nam.
Niech zyje nam!

Is this the right words?

Life / Polish Birthday Traditions [42]

In Poland all birthdays are considered special

This is good. In the UK we only generally celebrate "milestones". So what is done for each birthday in Poland?

Feedback / "Report Message" feature implemented [21]

Do we have to pass an exam?

lol - very funny Donkey :)

Good add, Admin :)

Although it might be that the "quote" and "report" options are too close together seeing as I've just about reported everyone I've attempted to quote since I logged on a few moments ago... (this maybe because I can't see straight though).

Life / Polish Birthday Traditions [42]

Here in the UK we are big on celebrating certain birthdays more than others. For example 16, 18, 21, 30, 40, 50 are considered "special" birthdays and often celebrated with a big party and loads of presents and fuss. This is traditional for us.

Is Polish tradition the same? Do Polish people consider certain ages as "coming of age" or "special" and if so, how are they celebrated?

Love / How to sustain a Long Distance Relationship with a Polish girl [75]

hopefully some people will skip to the end of this thread and offer some more advice based on their personal experiences (be they good or bad)

I hope so to. Good luck with that phone call ;)

i don't think so dolly, you missed my point, i was talking about me and not what other people were saying. :)

You're not PMing each other so therefore the discussion is on the open forum. All comments are available for anyone to comment on. Besides, if you read back, I don't think I did miss your point.

This is way off topic.

its nice you give him hope, well done, lets hope it works out or he's wasted a lot of time and effort and for what a few tears.

Patronising but I'll ignore that. It may or may not work out but any relationship is the same, whether you live next door to each other or in different countries...
