It's the same story as Copernicus. He identified with his German side as much as his Polish side but that isn't acknowledged in Polish sources.

Germans had enough they didn't need Danzig. It was selfish greed on their behalf to demand it!

Well..."they" hardly "demanded" it.
It was the population of Danzig which found themselves suddenly outside of Germany, cut off without any connection, because of some clueless border drawing far away by spiteful foreigners and who wanted nothing else but back home.

How selfish of them!

They mainly voted later for the one man who promised them that!

I wonder why they didn't renovate the old beautiful "polish style" of Danzig instead the old hanseatic german style Bürgerhäuser to get tourists in to the town?

(What is "polish style" actually?)

Danzig had a population of 98 percent Germans till 1945, was the birth town of many famous Germans and has a renown german architecture!
(And even before some Poles put a sign in the soil some Goth pissed on it BEFORE)

To ignore the german past of Danzig and make it to "it has always been polish" is just not true (outside of Poland that is).

But then...my remark stands..."There are two different kinds of histories, the polish version and everybody elses!"

50+ years Poles were spared from anything regarding the history about them, the world was spared the history from Polish point of few, hence stereotypes, twisted views etc, etc.

Poles are always only brave, righteous and have always right...don't you know that!
They have reasons for everything and theirs are of course the good and righteous reasons and the blame lies ALWAYS with either the Russians or the Germans (often both together)...that's all you need to know (and what you will ever get to hear).

Is it too much to ask Russia to express even a fraction of the repentance Germany has?

Why should they?
What would they get for any repentance from Poland?
Will the accusations stop? Will the blackmailing and abusing and guilt feelings for political gains stop?
I doubt it.
A good advise for Russians from a German..don't repent anything..Poles just don't appreciate it!

Europe is weak and other world power which uses its members to prove its weakness is Russia.

He showed how easy it was to crack the EU and bribe some members to do as THEY want, wasn't it...
Now that Obama actually laid the missile shield on ice but there is no doubt that Poland would have let the US did build that thing on their soil too...

Any organization is only so strong as it's weakest link Lukasz, and that is not Germany!

Without the perestroika in Russia the Soviet Empire would still be existent.

Poles have always realised this truth about American importance in Europe and that is why they offered support to Americans in Iraq.

Maybe you better apply for membership in the USofA as 52 country!

If the EU changes so much as to abandon their founding principles we could abandon it alltogether.
But to many people in Europe don't want that...I rather expect a split and a new founding of a "core" EU with a constitution/treaty from the beginning which all have to agree with first BEFORE becoming a member.

Poland acts in what it considers to be its own self-interest

The EU is bigger than that...if they don't want to commit themselves they should have stayed out of it then.

Who knows...the EU as it is now may become a failure because of the enlargement, because of to many of those tiny loudmouthes who only demand but never give...it may very well be that the big ones leave the useless but quarrelsome baggage behind and go it alone.

Then Poland can act in his own self-interest all it wants (and pay for it too).

Anny way Poland should be closer to Russians than Germans are ...

Why can't we both be close to Russia? :):):)

No it isn't!
Chirac was very rude but he only told out loud what millons of Europeans were thinking.
Poland was a very new member and millions of EU support was and is going there way and at the first, best opportunity they showed the "old Europe" the finger and licked US-boots (or so it seemed).

The whole affair with the missile shield and the support for Georgia also strenghtened the image of Poland as unconditional pro US and also unconditional anti-Russia...both seen as not very committed to Europe.

No excuse at all but a nagging feeling with many Europeans!
And who will be interested to listen to someone who so blatantly shows he gives a sh'it about Europe and the EU?

Your country and France need to step away every once in a while and let the spotlight shine more on eastern European countries

To do what exactly?
Fulfilling the role of the US boot in Europes door?

Western Europe wants everything while Eastern gets very little.

Do you know how much money and support goes eastern Europes way? It's BILLIONS!

Well...how many millions were killed because and during the partitions? Wanna compare that and the later border shuffles by your friends the Brits???
Even today there are wars and tensions all over the world because of their border shuffling regardless of religious and ethnical facts...they should be hung!

As for Germans I have not doubt they are conceiving plans to get back they lands when the opportunity arise!

Manno...look around you....no borders anymore....if there had been any plans for German domination and the possibility to settle where we want they came already true!

in my view, and view of the USA, SU and UK - those lands were such compensation!

Yeah...they did shove borders around as they saw fit also after WWI greatly contributing to destabilizing Europe and laying the seeds for WWII, and we pay even still today the consequences from their border-reshuffling in the ME...what generous people, weren't they!

How many millions died till now for their border shuffling in Europe and elsewhere? They should be hung!

and Germans should be keep under close watch - their are maniacs ))))))

I am debating now about German compensations.

It was perfectly fair, we just needed to expel Germans then not after WW2.

Without the new borders for the newly build countries like Poland there hadn't been a war...
